Thinking is something we all do. Whether it be in the form of emotional reactions, critical thinking, analysis, fear-reaction-solution, daily stresses or quite simply in all forms thereof, we humans on average are non-stop thinkers. It consumes every aspect of our lives. In our sensory perceptive reality we are constantly thinking. Thinking so much, that we take all our time and dedicate a life time to doing it. Psychology and cognitive science often claim, most people do not ever stop thinking. Essentially talking to themselves in mind, rationalizing, debating, arguing with themselves 24/7 over decision making. Creating everything from desires and fantasy to prioritizing a to-do list by virtually non-stop thinking. From daily tasks to our most inner secrets and darkest thoughts, we just can't seem to get enough of the informational overload of thinking.
Being said, many do not realize their thoughts and thinking processes do have a kill switch, an off switch, but is rarely ever used. One of the key areas of meditation recognizes the need to free the mind. Wikipedia and it's never ending supply of volunteers seem to think meditation can be defined as a practice where an individual uses a technique. Such as focusing our mind on a particular object, thought or activity, to achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm state. Other websites make claims to finding a peaceful serenity with meditation and it starts with "thinking" and focusing intent. That meditation, is the practice of turning your attention to a single point of reference. Meditation can give us a sense of calm, peace and balance that can benefit both your emotional well-being and your overall health, but it doesn't start with thinking or focusing intent.
It’s extremely difficult for a beginner to sit for hours and think of nothing. Most people cannot stop their minds from thinking for any more than a few seconds, if that. Because of the information overload in western societies, proponents of the practice have slowly changed the original meditation processes. Today it suggests, we need to think up a happy place, or envision an imaginary utopia. In modern times, its about thinking up a fantasy land to pretend you are apart of or go off into some visual zone of the mind of having to create a temporary escape from other thoughts. These methods are all just a trick to entertain the mind for those who aren't aware of the over thinkers kill switch and for those who can't shut off their minds from thinking at all. Meditation has really veered off course to a degree that suggest you always need to be doing something that involves thought.
Original Buddhist teachings are losing some of the original philosophies of meditation. In the beginning, meditation was about using the thought kill switch and turning off your thinking cap. Using the off switch to stop your mind, freeing your mind of thought. Creating stillness of the mind by stopping all thoughts and thinking. This was the original idea, not to use thoughts to think up an imaginary world so it calms our soul. Thinking is what activates the barrier between ones physical self and the higher self. The disconnect is, the act of thinking during meditation. The distraction stems from thinking, so how can thought based meditation free a mind from the thoughts and feelings that created all the reason to meditate in the first place.
Thought based meditation has therapeutic effects and this goes without saying, but the true nature of meditation is freeing the mind of all thoughts. In doing so, when we remove thinking from the meditation process, this is the act that raises vibrational frequencies. It's interesting that Youtube, has all kinds of meditation videos. How to achieve health, wealth and prosperity, activate your pineal gland and or Kundalini by listening to certain frequencies. Other videos will have you listening to "love frequencies" with a guide giving you a voice to listen to. Some have bi-neural frequencies in the background that are suppose to give you a cutting edge advantage to meditation. But unfortunately, these are snake oil placebo's that don't offer any real effects other than it temporarily takes your mind off of other mind creations that are causing mind conflicts.
A huge misconception in meditation is thinking that concentration is the key to manifesting peacefulness. Our mind is a non-stop chatterbox that continues to create all sorts of good - bad, relevant - irrelevant thoughts incessantly. Therefore it is essential to realize that the first step to meditation is to learn how to stop the chatterbox. Meditation is the state of no thoughts. One thing it is definitely not, is a tool that is used to bring all our hopes and dreams into our reality. These are virtues of prayer, positive thinking, wishful thinking and manifesting through intent. Sure we could meditate for wealth and fortunes by using intent, but this is not the correct way to reach a higher frequency or self enlightenment let alone inner-peace. So one might ask, well if all meditation is about turning off our thoughts, then if that's all it is, then why do it.
Here is a viable answer and only one aspect of many. When we clear our minds of all thought processes, this stops the flow of mind chatter, information, reactions, emotions, stimulus and stops the ego from rationalizing everything that stimulates a response in our thinking habits. When we are thoughtless at times of personal relaxation, we begin to empower other senses that opens other cognitive and esoteric relationships within ourselves. This will allow us to eventually replace thoughts with information from source field energy. Taking back control of our thoughts and the insatiable art of thinking should be the first step to freeing our minds from the chatterbox that insists we should always be in a state of constant mind gibberish. "We are drowning in information but starved for knowledge" is a quote by J.Naisbitt and nothing could be any truer to the sense of these words. This is were meditation can prevent the drowning of non-stop information for the non-stop minds.
Learning to free our minds of thought, will allow us to sleep better, will increase our bodies energy levels, removing stress and anxiety from the daily routine. Ultimately we will learn to receive cosmic knowledge by allowing it a chance to permeate through our inner self that will reflect outwardly upon our reality and the people in it. Once we have mastered turning off our minds at times of rest, we will then be able to take meditation to the realms for which is was designed. Total self enlightenment by receiving information from source field energy. This field is perceived by some as being the Akashic records. Once our thoughts become non-existent when in a state of rest, we will then be privy to receiving information as it has been done over the ages by our most brilliant composers, inventors, scientist and modern day profits such as Edgar Cayce.
Cayce was a master at thought suppression and would often start a session by clearing his mind of all thoughts. Once suppressing his thoughts over a few moments, he would put himself in a state of existence that was some where between wakefulness and sleep. This half awake - half sleep realm is where the knowledge can be accessed and it can only be achieved when we free our minds and open the conduit that comes from being void of thought and thinking, Cayce knew this. This area of lucid reality just happens to be the realm where all things are possible and has been recognized by others as the place that allows off world entities to travel into our dimension of existence. That accessibility is directly related to how well you can tune out thought and tune in to the information field and how well we can keep between being awake and asleep (the lucid sweet spot) when relaxing the mind and body.
Just remember that meditation is not about achieving goals or waiting for a bright light at the end of a tunnel to appear in our three dimensional mind. We shouldn't be waiting for a miracle or hoping to see loved ones on the other side while our eyes are closed. One thing is for sure, we wont be receiving a golden pot at the end of the rainbow or wake up a billionaire by freeing our minds. That is not what its about. It's purely by the act of non-thinking in a peculiar state of lucidity that will allow your mind to start receiving knowledge from the source field. For the masters out there, this is nothing new to you, but to those who are new to meditation, we must clear our mind of all thoughts for as long as possible every night before bed and sooner than later we will notices changes in the way we perceive the world and the way the world perceives us.
We should never expect a sign from the minds eye or think we need to hear some trumpets playing as a sign of god while meditating. Our only goal is to stop thinking when we lay down to relax and sleep. That is all that is required for the time being. When we learn to turn off the mind from broadcasting non-stop, it can then be used as a receiver which will by nature, amplify the multi dimensional holographic connection to source field energy that will be accessible to us in greater degrees. We just have to stop the chatterbox long enough. Once we master this, we will be able to connect to this unlimited informational field and start learning that love and empathy can be expressed and felt without a biological body. This is where the real power of this realm comes into play...
