'The BBC is facing growing demands to dump radio veteran John Humphrys for joking about the gender pay gap.
The bitter war of words broke out between male and female BBC news presenters after the leak of Humphrys’ off-air chat with colleague John Sopel.
Some female Beeb presenters are “incandescent” and threatening a walkout over the Mastermind host, 74.
A source at equal pay campaign group BBC Women said: “The only acceptable outcome is for him to go.”
But Beeb bosses are standing by the Radio 4 Today programme veteran — who will still be allowed to host segments on the gender pay gap.
And yesterday, Humphrys dismissed the tape as "silly banter" leaked by "some nasty person".
Senior sources last night confirmed that Mastermind presenter Humphrys, 74, will not face disciplinary action over his taped remarks, which were published in The Sun yesterday.
Some female BBC presenters yesterday broke rank and retweeted or “liked” the story on social media.
They included Emma Barnett Rachel Burden, Andrea Catherwood, Kirsty Wark and Leah Boleto.'
