‘Turkey says its warplanes have carried out more than two dozen airstrikes against Kurdish positions in northern Syria, killing scores of militants.
Jets carried out 26 airstrikes against YPG targets, killing 160 to 200 militants, the Turkish army said in a statement on Thursday.
The army said its jets hit militant targets in the villages of al-Hasiya, Um al-Qura and Um Hosh and destroyed nine buildings, one armored vehicle and four other vehicles that belonged to the Kurdish militia.
YPG forces had recently captured the areas from Daesh militants. Attacks on YPG positions have been an ongoing source of contention between the United States and Turkey.’
‘A cruise of the Russian Northern Fleet’s naval group, including Russia’s only aircraft carrier, to the Mediterranean Sea has provoked a nervous response from some European states, who said they could send their vessels to intercept the group.
The Netherlands said that it is ready to send HNLMS Evertsen, a guided-missile frigate of the Dutch Royal Navy, to intercept the Russian air carrier group. The frigate will escort the group as it passes through the Northern Sea, Rob Verkerk, the Dutch Royal Navy Commander, said in his Twitter post.’
‘Russia insists two Belgium warplanes flying from an Air Force base in Jordan attacked a village in Syria, citing radar data. Belgium denies conducting any airstrikes.
Brussels’ continued denial of the jets movements in the area is Belgian Defense Minister Steven Vandeput “deliberately deceiving people in Belgium and elsewhere in the world, or his subordinates and the Americans are lying to the leadership of Belgium,” Russian Defense Ministry spokesman General Igor Konashenkov said.
An airstrike on the village of Hassadjek in Aleppo province reportedly killed six civilians on Tuesday. Russia has now reiterated its accusations against Belgium, saying data from Russian and Syrian radar stations confirm it.’
‘The 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, one of the oldest tank units in the US Army, will move to South Korea for a nine-month “rotational deployment.” It comes just one day after the Pentagon threatened an “overwhelming response” to any attack on Seoul.
The US Army said on Wednesday that it had begun the “rotational deployment” of the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team (1st ABCT) of the 1st Infantry Division from Fort Riley, Kansas, to the Camp Casey north of Seoul.
Brigade General Patrick D. Frank, deputy commander of the 1st Infantry Division, said in a statement the brigade’s 3,500 soldiers and officers “are well-trained and fully prepared for this important mission to South Korea” that would last for nine months.’
‘Islamist militants have shelled a ‘humanitarian corridor’ set up to allow civilians to escape from the eastern Aleppo, RIA Novosti reported. The shelling came amid a ceasefire declared the by Syrian military and Russian Air Force.
At least six mortar shells were fired into the ‘humanitarian corridor’ by militants in the Bustan al-Qasr neighborhood of eastern Aleppo. Small arms fire was also directed at a Syrian army checkpoint, RIA Novosti reported on Thursday.
The exit from the corridor is approximately 200 meters from Islamist positions and apparently within reach of their small arms and mortar fire, according to the report.’
‘The US-led ‘Coalition’ flying over Syria has turned into an illegal ‘free-for-all’ – with virtually no real control or accountability regarding what and where the Pentagon’s shadow confab is hitting in their alleged “battle against ISIS.” This latest incident involving Belgium is another prime example of this.
According to AFP, Moscow has claimed that Belgian air force jets from the US ‘Coalition’ has killed six civilians in airstrikes around Aleppo.’
‘The Iraqi army started a large operation to liberate Mosul from Islamic State jihadists. But the forces, in total some 40,000, are still several dozen kilometers away from the city limits. They will have to capture several towns and villages and pass many IED obstacles before coming near to the center and house to house fighting. It might take many month to eliminated the last stay-behind ISIS cells in Mosul.
About one million civilians live in Mosul. Many, many more than in east-Aleppo. Many of them were sympathetic with the new overlords when ISIS stormed in two years ago. French, American, Kurdish, Iraqi and Turkish artillery are pounding them now. Airstrikes attack even the smallest fighting position. When the city will be conquered it will likely be destroyed. The imminent fight over Mosul might be the reason why John Kerry dialed down his hypocritical howling over east-Aleppo in Syria which is under attack from Syrian and Russian forces.’
‘The British minister for the Middle East says the early October attack by Saudi forces on a funeral in Yemen was a “deliberate error.”
More than 140 people were killed and over 525 wounded on October 8, when a Saudi air raid hit a community hall in the south of the capital Sana’a, where a funeral for the father of Interior Minister Jalal al-Roweishan was being held.
Tobias Ellwood, the British minister for the Middle East, revealed Wednesday that the Saudi monarchy actually ordered the attack, which drew global condemnation.’
