'TONY BLAIR is a “destructive force” who sees his job as “to try to destroy the Labour Party so people keep talking about his reign,” Dennis Skinner told the Morning Star today.
Mr Blair advised voters to select an “unequivocal Remain party” at the European elections if they were put off by what he called Labour’s “destructive indecision” over Brexit.
But Mr Skinner asked: “What do you expect from Tony Blair? Don’t play the man’s game. He has to be exposed.
“He had a massive majority and he destroyed it — it all started in that shack in America with George [W] Bush. He went into Iraq and destroyed himself. He helped David Cameron and Theresa May into power. You’re talking about a man who made a mess of it.”
Labour’s shadow international trade secretary Barry Gardiner told Sky News’s Sophy Ridge on Sunday that Mr Blair appeared to ignore the concept of democracy in his interview.
Polls showing that 34 per cent of people intend to vote for the Brexit Party at the European elections indicated that “people in this country are angry. They’re angry that the referendum result has not been delivered on by an incompetent government,” Mr Gardiner said.
In comparison, 21 per cent said they would vote Labour, 12 per cent Lib Dems and 11 per cent Tories.
Mr Gardiner warned voters not to be “conned” by Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage, saying he should not be allowed to define what Brexit means for Britain when the party doesn’t have any policies.
“There’s no policies to this party, or just one – they want to leave the EU without a deal,” he said.
He acknowledged that most Labour MPs supported Remain but said that “when the referendum result came in, we said we made [the public] a promise that what you decided is what we will do.”'
