The logical next step against the Trump regime’s coup plot is long overdue - holding Guaido accountable for high crimes against the state.
There’s no ambiguity about his wrongdoing, guilty of multiple serious offenses.
Most egregious is complicity with the US plot to topple democratically elected and reelected President Maduro, along with wanting Bolivarian social democracy eliminated, Venezuela transformed into a US vassal state, its resources looted, its people exploited, their fundamental rights lost.
Following the request of Venezuelan Chief Supreme Court Justice Maikel Moreno for the nation’s Constituent Assembly (its constitutionally authorized highest legal body) to strip Guaido of parliamentary immunity for flouting a High Court order, banning his foreign travel without court permission, illicit financial activities, inciting street violence, and other offenses, its members acted unanimously on his request.
Stripped of immunity, his protective shield eliminated, he’s vulnerable to be held accountable for serious offenses too egregious to ignore.
Evidence against him is irrefutable. What remains is for Venezuelan authorities to conclude their probe into his actions - then arrest, detain, indict, prosecute, convict, sentence, and imprison him behind bars longterm where he belongs - eliminating the coup’s frontman, taking the air out of its balloon.
Trump regime hardliners promised “serious consequences” if Guaido is harmed. Sending in the marines to rescue him is highly unlikely.
Most likely what will follow is escalated sanctions war, along with more Trump regime threats and establishment media rage. All of the above are coming anyway whether Guaido remains free or detained, awaiting trial.
No country permits anyone on their territory to incite rebellion against the sitting government, wanting it toppled - the highest of high political crimes.
18 US Code § 2385. Advocating overthrow of Government states the following:
“Whoever knowingly or willfully advocates, abets, advises, or teaches the duty, necessity, desirability, or propriety of overthrowing or destroying the government of the United States…by force or violence” or any other way…”(s)be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both…”
18 US Code § 2383. Rebellion or insurrection states: “Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both…”
Anyone engaged in seditious conspiracy may be imprisoned for 20 years. If convicted of treason, they’ll face capital punishment or imprisonment.
Accountability is closing in on Guaido, his arrest, detention, and prosecution likely just a matter of time.
Taking this action will likely deter others in the country from following in his footsteps, knowing the same fate likely awaits them if go this far.
