'Two British soldiers have reportedly been seriously wounded in Syria after being hit by a missile in an Isis attack.
The two soldiers are believed to be part of the army’s special forces inside the war-torn country.
The Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG) and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said on Saturday evening that two British soldiers were injured in an attack near the town of Deir Ezzor.
It is believed the incident happened on Saturday morning and the injured soldiers were airlifted from the scene by US forces for medical treatment.
One Kurdish fighter is also thought to have been killed in the missile strike.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) would not confirm reports of the attack. A spokesman for the department told The Independent: “We do not comment on special forces operations.”
The Kurdish news outlet Rudaw reported that the British troops were injured in an attack on a SDF base in Deir Ezzor, eastern Syria.
An SDF official said: “Due to a smart missile attack by Isis, a fighter of the YPG was killed and another wounded, in addition to two British soldiers.”
British special forces are believed to be on the ground in Syria as part of the US-led coalition carrying out airstrikes against Isis, although the UK government never comments on their deployment.
In March 2018, the MoD named the first British soldier killed in active duty in operations against Isis in Syria as 33-year-old Sergeant Matt Tonroe.'
