US Temporarily Bans British Petroleum over Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill

‘The US government has temporarily banned oil giant British Petroleum (BP) from new contracts over criminal charges stemming from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) suspended BP on Wednesday after the company had agreed to plead guilty on November 16 to criminal misconduct stemming from the Gulf of Mexico disaster in 2010.

“Federal executive branch agencies take these actions to ensure the integrity of federal programs by conducting business only with responsible individuals or companies. Suspensions are a standard practice when a responsibility question is raised by action in a criminal case,” said an EPA report.’
