Clegg Blocks Tory Bid for UK Opting Out

'The Conservatives' plans to announce a highly controversial UK opt-out from more than 130 European police and justice measures have been blocked by Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg.
Clegg blocked the Tories’ plans at the last minute after last week’s party conference, showing signs of tension deepening over Europe within the UK coalition government. The Lib Dem leader, who strongly favours cross policing as an EU role, argued that no such deal had been made in the coalition regarding the issue and insisted that no announcement could be made by Tory ministers in Birmingham.'
