‘Foreign ministers from the 12-nation Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) have condemned Britain’s recent threat to storm the Ecuadorean embassy in London and arrest WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
Assange is currently in the embassy of Ecuador in London after being granted asylum, while Britain vows to extradite him to Sweden for questioning regarding allegations of sexual misconduct, which many supporters fear is a cover to hand him over to the US.
The ministers of South American nations issued a statement against the UK, saying they “condemned the threat of the use of force between states”. The UNASUR’s meeting took place in Ecuador on Sunday 19 August. The group’s general secretary, Ali Rodriguez of Venezuela, said the meeting lasted 20 minutes.’
