'A housing association has accused a London council of “social cleansing” after the council announced the “onset of the Olympic Games” made it impossible for it to provide tenants with accommodation.

Newham Council, which is in the east of London, has asked the Brighter Futures Housing Association in Stoke-on-Trend, a city in Staffordshire, to lease homes to it because it can no longer afford to provide tenants on its waiting list with accommodation, reported the BBC.

The council has said that the “onset of the Olympic Games” and the great gap between market rents and the local housing allowance have been the reasons why it has been “forced to look further afield for alternative supply”.'
