UK Government Renews Anti-Independence Warning

‘UK government’s most senior Scottish law officer, Lord Wallace, once again warned that the Scottish government has to seek Westminster approval to organize an independence referendum, otherwise such electoral would be challenged in the courts.

While giving a lecture in Glasgow, former deputy first minister claimed that holding a referendum was beyond the Scottish Parliament’s legal powers and would oppose the Rule of Law and a wrong step for a voted government to take.

In a bid to depict the independence as an unwise measure adopted by the Scottish National Party (SNP) government, Wallace claimed, “A referendum must do something, and mean something, otherwise it is hardly a proper use of public money.”’
