US Representative Arrested at Deportation Protest

‘Democratic Congressman Luis Gutierrez was arrested on Tuesday along with about a dozen other protesters after refusing to evacuate the area, Reuters reported.

The Illinois representative has long worked on immigration issues, and has been in a wave of immigration protests in recent years.

He has a prominent role in pushing the DREAM Act (acronym for Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors) in Congress, a US legislative proposal which provides conditional permanent residency to certain illegal foreign students who graduate from US high schools.’
