‘Airstrikes against up to 20 ISIS targets are under way in Syria, according to Pentagon officials. The operation marks the first time the U.S. has launched strikes in Syria, a new front in the battle against the terror group.
“I can confirm that U.S. military and partner nation forces are undertaking military action against ISIL [ISIS] terrorists in Syria using a mix of fighter, bomber and Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles,” Pentagon Press Secretary Rear Admiral John Kirby said.
“Given that these operations are ongoing, we are not in a position to provide additional details at this time,” Kirby said. “The decision to conduct theses strikes was made earlier today by the U.S. Central Command commander under authorization granted him by the commander in chief.”‘
‘Obama’s United Nations ambassador Samantha Power told Chuck Todd of NBC on Sunday the real purpose of the fight against ISIS is to overthrow al-Assad and the Syrian government.
Power said the “moderate” Free Syrian Army (FSA) will receive an “infusion of support” in its battle against both ISIS and the Syrian government which is, according to Power and the United States, “backed by Hezbollah, Iran, Russia, etc.”
Omitted from the discussion is the fact ISIS, al-Nusra and the FSA have merged forces.’
‘John Kerry is becoming more and more like William McGonagall, the “worst poet in the world” whose horror at the 1879 Tay Bridge railway disaster yielded the imperishable observation that it “will be remember’d for a very long time”.
Like McGonagall’s verse, Kerry’s attempts to explain America’s crusade against its latest evil enemy are so awful, they are addictive. Just when you think that Kerry’s lame explanation to American politicians of Obama’s Iraqi crusade – “[Isis] has to be defeated, plain and simple, end of story” – can’t get any more childish, it does.’
‘The United States will conduct airstrikes on the ISIL terrorist group in cooperation with other countries, said Samantha Power, Washington’s ambassador to the United Nations.
Speaking to ABC’s “This Week” host George Stephanopoulos on Sunday, Power said, “I will make you a prediction, George, which is that we will not do the airstrikes alone if the president decides to do the airstrikes.”
She said, however, the countries themselves will decide whether to join the US in its efforts to battle the terrorists.’
‘In yet another rather embarrassing event for The White House, just days after President Obama praised the French for helping in the fight against ISIS, and General Martin Dempsey noted “the French were our very first ally and they’re with us again now,” French officials have, according to Reuters, ruled out participation in airstrikes against Islamic State in Syria.
With the fall of France (and Germany already saying “nein”), it appears the broad coalition is now a “coalition of none,” as Obama has stated the US would not go it alone…’
‘The families of German citizens killed in the Malaysian plane crash in eastern Ukraine are planning to sue the Ukrainian authorities in the European Court of Human Rights, accusing them of manslaughter by negligence.
Ukraine should have closed its airspace if it couldn’t provide for the safety of flights over its territory, Elmar Giemulla, a professor of aviation law representing the three families of German victims, told Bild am Sonntag, a German Sunday newspaper.
“Each state is responsible for the security of its air space,” Giemulla said. “If it is not able to do so temporarily, it must close its air space. As that did not happen, Ukraine is liable for the damage.”‘
‘A vigil for alleged victims of child abuse was held outside a guest house in Barnes being investigated under Operation Fernbridge.
About 20 people gathered outside Elm Guest House, Rocks Lane, on Monday, September 15, to lay flowers and balloons for children whose lives were affected by the alleged abuse.
The guest house is at the centre of a police investigation into allegations of child sex abuse dating back to the 1970s and 1980s.
It is alleged that the guest house was advertised as a place for gay men to have parties, but was the centre of a VIP paedophile ring visited by powerful people.’
‘Former Israeli President Shimon Peres has called on the regime’s main political parties to oust Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and force elections.
Peres sent a message to Israeli Finance Minister and Yesh Atid party leader Yair Lapid, asking him to force out Netanyahu’s coalition together with Hatnua party leader Tzipi Livni, and call for new elections, the Jerusalem Post reported.
Under the scenario, the coalition could continue its work only if Haredi (the ultra-Orthodox) parties join it. However, elections would be the most likely scenario given the slim chance of this move by Haredi parties.’
‘A team of eight experts and journalists visiting the southern region of the West African state of Guinea were found dead in the town of Nzerekore on Sept. 20. Reports indicate that they were there to educate people about the nature of the disease for the purpose of its prevention.
Reports from Guinea say that the delegation had met with elders in the community but were later attacked by youths. Investigations into the details of the killings are ongoing.
There is tremendous mistrust surrounding the spread of the Ebola virus disease in some West African states where the epidemic has had an impact. Doctors Without Borders reported in April that their teams were forced to withdraw from Macenta in Guinea after being stoned by youths who said they were there to spread the disease.’
‘The American family that for decades has been synonymous not just with great riches but with riches created by oil said on Monday that it was moving to divest itself entirely from all oil and fossil fuel interests.
Descendants of John D Rockefeller, who tapped the black gushers of Texas and California more than a century ago to forge Standard Oil, a company that was later to spawn such names as Exxon, Chevron, Amoco and Mobil, announced the decision on the eve of the climate change summit in New York.’
‘Australia aims to strengthen security by introducing new legislation to combat homegrown terrorism, said PM Tony Abbott.
The new laws will criminalize travel to some conflict areas and grant authorities broader access to citizens’ communications.
“Regrettably, for some time to come, the delicate balance between freedom and security may have to shift,” Prime Minister Tony Abbott said in a statement on Monday, as he previewed a bill to be introduced in Parliament later this week.’
‘Manhattan’s flood of green protesters had climate-change skeptics seeing red Sunday.
“Their love for the Earth is so real, they couldn’t even use a trash can,” tweeted a disgusted @chelsea_elisa, along with a photo of an overflowing trash can in Manhattan, after tens of thousands of marchers invaded the city on fleets of smog-producing buses.
David Kreutzer, a research fellow at the conservative think tank Heritage Foundation, shared a similar photo of the marchers’ refuse trashing the city’s streets.’
‘The 2022 World Cup will not be held in Qatar because of the scorching temperatures in the Middle East country, Fifa Executive Committee member Theo Zwanziger said on Monday.
“I personally think that in the end the 2022 World Cup will not take place in Qatar,” the German told Sport Bild on Monday.
“Medics say that they cannot accept responsibility with a World Cup taking place under these conditions,” the former German football (DFB) chief, who is now a member of the world soccer’s governing body Fifa that awarded the tournament to Qatar in 2010.’
‘Your car could soon start cutting off your phone calls, silencing the radio and monitoring the weather via intelligent windscreen wipers as insurers step up their hi-tech efforts to turn us into better drivers and cut the number of accidents.
Every driver in Britain could be monitored by their insurer’s tracking technology within the next decade, experts have predicted. Those who refuse could face higher premiums or be denied cover altogether.
So-called “black box” or “telematics” technology is becoming more popular because it enables good drivers to get discounts on their insurance. The boxes are especially favoured by young drivers, who would often pay far more under conventional underwriting.’
‘Despite campaigning on a platform that endorsed having “a nuclear-free world” in the not so distant future, United States President Barack Obama is overseeing an administration that’s aim has taken another path, the New York Times reported this week.
On Sunday, journalists William Broad and David Sanger wrote for the Times that a half-decade of “political deals and geopolitical crises” have thrown a wrench in the works of Pres. Obama’s pre-White House plans, as a result eviscerating his previously stated intentions of putting America’s — and ideally the world’s — nuclear programs on ice.’
‘The drug industry has come up with yet another phony mental illness that it says afflicts as many as 2 million children: “Sluggish Cognitive Tempo,” or SCT, one of the most ridiculous counterfeit diseases yet.
According to a description of the “disease” published in the Journal of Abnormal Child Psychology, children with SCT are basically daydreamers, which Big Pharma is now using as a catch-net classification for children who can’t be declared as having attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).’
‘US spy planes are flying above Britain monitoring telephone and computer signals in a bid to track down British terrorist Jihadi John and those who are communicating with him.
The aircraft, manned by British pilots and carrying FBI agents, are equipped with technology so advanced they can detect heat coming off a keyboard when a button is pressed.
A source has revealed Jihadi John, who has beheaded three Western hostages on camera, comes from a South London suburb about 10 miles from Central London.’
‘Thousands of books have been written about mysticism over thousands of years, and this essay is a mere 1,012 words. Do I really think I can convey the essence, power and bliss of the mystical in a thousand words?
That is what I set out to do after recently viewing numerous videos and reading many essays that I found on the World Wide Web. After reviewing this mass of content, I realized that after all those hours of viewing and reading content by gurus, masters and experts, I realized I had learned nothing of value. Indeed, much of the content was nothing if not misleading.’
‘Observing the current trend in world events, from the endless Western “war on terror” which has justified the trail of orchestrated chaos, genocide and ruin across the Middle to the attempts to instigate WW3with Russia and China in a orgy of MADness; from the head-chopping, organ eating amoral ISIS entity, to the widespread geo-engineering and biocide of all living systems on the planet, one cannot avoid the impression that we live in a Psychopathic Control Matrix, a contrived, fear-based toxic reality, engineered by a small but powerful element in the society.
Their mental processes differ vastly from the majority of decent humans who are generally not consumed by excessive greed or lust for power. Most human beings do not wish to harm others, and moreover actually want to be a force for good and a constructive contributor to the society.’
‘Viewers tuned in to KTVA-TV’s 10pm newscast last night were given a bit of a shock when the newsreader revealed the identity of the owner of a medical marijuana business – herself.
Reporter Charlo Greene made the confession live on air before announcing that she was quitting using just a few choice words.
‘And as for this job, well, not that I have a choice but, f*** it, I quit,’ she said.
Ms Greene had reported on the Alaska Cannabis Club during Sunday night’s broadcast, without revealing her connection to it, Alaska Dispatch News reported.’
‘Arsonists have torched the car of a Rabbi who spoke out over Israel’s military action in Gaza.
Firebugs poured petrol over Ahron Cohen’s Volvo estate before setting fire to the vehicle outside his home.
They first attached a makeshift fuse to the fuel tank, but when it failed to ignite they returned a few minutes later and used a can of petrol to start the fire.’
‘In an apparent sign of division between back and front bench MPs in the House of Commons, backbenchers have secured a vote for the House to recognize the state of Palestine.
The title of the debate will be: THE FUTURE OF THE TWO STATE SOLUTION IN ISRAEL AND PALESTINE.
The debate will take place on 13 Oct 2014, it will be six hours long and happen in the main chamber.
It will be a debate on a substantive motion: “That this House calls on the government to recognise the state of Palestine alongside the state of Israel”’
‘Water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink. This is quickly becoming the new state motto in California, where epic drought conditions are affecting even the highest echelons of society, including ultra-rich areas near Santa Barbara where celebrities, CEOs, and other “one-percenters” are now having to truck in water from unknown sources just to keep their laundry washed and their dishes clean.
We’re no longer talking about extravagant things like swimming pools and polo fields, many of which are now dry, brown and decaying in the plush Santa Barbara suburb of Montecito. No, one of the richest zip codes in the entire U.S. is struggling just to maintain enough water for its residents to live, according to reports.’
‘Cargill is a vast USA-based agribusiness with a multinational empire that dominates the food industry in exporting grains, producing food additives and providing processed food products to McDonalds.
Cargill is in the food-trading business purely for control and profit, and they are pro-GMO, of course. Nutritional quality is of no concern. But they don’t like it when their export sales are spoiled by a GMO company’s effort to insert their corn product into a large shipment exported by Cargill to China, a nation that hasn’t approved it.’
‘We have undergone a transformation during the last few decades—what John Ralston Saul calls a corporate coup d’état in slow motion. We are no longer a capitalist democracy endowed with a functioning liberal class that once made piecemeal and incremental reform possible.
Liberals in the old Democratic Party such as the senators Gaylord Nelson, Birch Bayh and George McGovern—who worked with Ralph Nader to make the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, the Mine Safety and Health Act, the Freedom of Information Act and the OSHA law, who made common cause with labor unions to protect workers, who stood up to the arms industry and a bloated military—no longer exist within the Democratic Party, as Nader has been lamenting for several years.
They were pushed out as corporate donors began to transform the political landscape with the election of Ronald Reagan. And this is why the Democrats have not, as Bill Curry points out, enacted any major social or economic reforms since the historic environmental laws of the early ’70s.’
‘Starting this year McDonald’s will begin the process of an 18-month rebrand. The need for a total makeover stems from a number of dismal sales months. A new report surveying 3,000 consumers also found that baby boomers, Gen-Xers and millennials are just not lovin’ fast food.
To combat the poor image, McDonald’s is offering free coffee the next two weeks. It also recently trademarked McBrunch, because, someone had to! McBrunch might not be coming anytime soon because of logistics, but the company is already implementing a new breakfast menu in San Diego that will make McDonald’s appear more like a French café than a billion-dollar burger shop. It will even include Petite Breakfast Pastries. As CEO Don Thompson stated, it’s all about creating a “more trusted and respected brand” that “customers will feel good about.”’
‘The British government has been warned it may face legal action if it fails to consult Parliament and the public on the redeployment of drones outside declared warzones.
Questions have been raised by Saeed Al Yousefi, a Yemeni man from a province that is a frequent target of US strikes, about the fate of at least ten armed Reaper drones currently based in Afghanistan. Ministers have so far declined to reveal where the weapons, which are piloted remotely from US bases in Nevada and Lincolnshire, will be used after December 2014, when UK operations in Afghanistan finish.’
‘The migrants paid the smugglers. Buses collected them in groups of around 100 and took them to Damietta, a port on the northeastern edge of the Nile Delta. On Sept. 6, the several hundred migrants from Egypt, the Gaza Strip, Sudan and Syria left Damietta, bound for Italy.
But it wasn’t to be. On Sept. 14, news spread of an almost unprecedented human tragedy in the Mediterranean. The Damietta boat had been deliberately sunk four days earlier by smugglers off the coast of Malta. At the time, around 500 people were believed drowned or missing. Just a handful of survivors remained.’
‘US President Barack Obama will be welcoming Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the White House for the first time in seven months.
The announcement about the October 1 meeting was made by the White House National Security Council spokeswoman on Monday night.
Caitlin Hayden said that the meeting will likely highlight the US-Israeli division over the Iranian negotiations.’
