‘Those tempted to write off the standoff at the Bundy Ranch as little more than a show of force by militia-minded citizens would do well to reconsider their easy dismissal of this brewing rebellion. This goes far beyond concerns about grazing rights or the tension between the state and the federal government.
Few conflicts are ever black and white, and the Bundy situation, with its abundance of gray areas, is no exception.
Yet the question is not whether Cliven Bundy and his supporters are domestic terrorists, as Harry Reid claims, or patriots, or something in between. Nor is it a question of whether the Nevada rancher is illegally grazing his cattle on federal land or whether that land should rightfully belong to the government. Nor is it even a question of who’s winning the showdown— the government with its arsenal of SWAT teams, firepower and assault vehicles, or Bundy’s militia supporters with their assortment of weapons—because if such altercations end in bloodshed, everyone loses.’
‘When the story broke of Harry Reid’s possible involvement to the Bundy Ranch/BLM land grab I was quick to jump on the story. Unfortunately, sometimes we make quick judgments without first checking all pertinent facts. As has since been exposed, the deal involving Harry Reid and ENN fell through at a later date. That agreement was terminated last summer:
A Chinese-backed company is pulling the plug on a multibillion-dollar solar project near Laughlin after it was unable to find customers for the power that would have been generated there, a Clark County spokesman said.
In a letter, an executive from ENN Mojave Energy LLC informed the county that the company was terminating its agreement to purchase 9,000 acres near Laughlin, stating that the “market will not support a project of this scale and nature at this time.”’
This brings me to the European elections that are to be held next month. In theory, they could mark a historic moment of social and political upheaval, as the subject voters of Europe challenge the political colonialism of the centre. And there are scattered signs that nationalist parties determined to smash the EU system may indeed achieve some substantial successes. In France, Marine Le Pen could lead the National Front to first place in the polls. The situation in Greece is indecipherable. Here in Britain (where we have a far stronger democratic tradition than other European countries), Nigel Farage has emerged as a brilliant leader of the insurgent Ukip, which may well get more votes than the Conservatives.
Elsewhere, the political analyst runs into difficulty. In defiance of logic, the expected anti-European revolt is simply not happening. Take the example of Spain, which has suffered terribly during the past five years and where youth unemployment is more than 50 per cent. One would expect a revolution – and yet there are no anti-European parties that are worthy of the name. Exactly the same applies to Portugal, which has suffered almost as badly during the eurozone crisis.
‘The British Columbia Health Ministry has admitted that the remains of babies destroyed by abortion in B.C. facilities are ending up in a waste-to-power facility in the United States, providing electricity for residents of Oregon.
The province’s Health Ministry said in an email to the B.C. Catholic that “biomedical waste” shipped to the U.S. to be incinerated includes “human tissue, such as surgically removed cancerous tissue, amputated limbs, and fetal tissue.”
“The ministry understands that some is transferred to Oregon. There it is incinerated in a waste-to-energy plant,” the email stated.’
‘According to Ruth Hunter, Virginia State Police bound her hands with zip-ties after wrongfully targeting her apartment in a drug raid.
“I thought it was somebody just breaking in to rob me and kill me,” Hunter told CBS 6. “… Took my hands and handcuffed me with the ties because they told me I was under arrest and then after they handcuffed me that’s when they proceeded to ask questions.”
Police told Hunter that her home was listed as a major drug spot according to court documents, a claim Hunter says is absolutely ridiculous.’
‘With revelations that the National Security Agency has collected some 20 trillion phone calls and emails via an expansive nationwide surveillance network, most Americans have already come to the realization that everything they do is being monitored.
But many shrug off Big Brother’s prying eyes by suggesting that, since they aren’t doing anything wrong, they have nothing to worry about.
That may have been true several years ago, but the digital surveillance systems of today are far more advanced than most people understand. No longer are these machines simply recording the data and storing them in some historical archive to be pulled at a later date should the government ever have reason to take a closer look at your personal life.’
‘The two main rival Palestinian factions have signed an accord designed to end seven years of sometimes violent division, paving the way for elections later in the year and the formation of a unity government within weeks.
The move, after a day of talks between Hamas and Fatah in Gaza that lasted until three in the morning, comes less than a week before the expiry of the deadline for US-sponsored peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority on 29 April and is certain to complicate US efforts to seek another nine-month extension to those talks.
Israel immediately responded by saying the Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, was moving to peace with Hamas instead of peace with Israel. “He has to choose,” said the prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu. “Does he want peace with Hamas or peace with Israel? You can have one but not the other. I hope he chooses peace, so far he hasn’t done so.”‘
‘A jury in Dallas, TX today awarded $2.925 million to plaintiffs Bob and Lisa Parr, who sued Barnett shale fracking company Aruba Petroleum Inc. for intentionally causing a nuisance on the Parr’s property which impacted their health and ruined their drinking water.
The jury returned its 5-1 verdict confirming that Aruba Petroleum “intentionally created a private nuisance” though its drilling, fracking and production activities at 21 gas wells near the Parrs’ Wise County home over a three-year period between 2008-2011.’
‘During his two-day visit this week to Kiev, Ukraine, Vice President Joe Biden unfurled President Barack Obama’s “U.S. Crisis Support Package for Ukraine.”
A key part of the package involves promoting the deployment of hydraulic fracturing (“fracking”) in Ukraine. Dean Neu, professor of accounting at York University in Toronto, describes this phenomenon in his book “Doing Missionary Work.” And in this case, it involves the U.S. acting as a modern-day missionary to spread the gospel of fracking to further its own interests.
With the ongoing Russian occupation of Crimea serving as the backdrop for the trip, Biden made Vladimir Putin’s Russia and its dominance of the global gas market one of the centerpieces of a key speech he gave while in Kiev.’
‘What is causing all of these plagues to hit our food supply? Have you heard of citrus greening disease? Probably not, but it has already gotten so bad that it is being projected that Florida’s orange harvest will be the smallest in 30 years. Have you heard of TR4? Probably not, but it has become such a nightmare that some analysts believe that it could eventually wipe out the entire global supply of the type of bananas that Americans eat.
In addition, another major plague is killing millions of our pigs, and a crippling drought that never seems to end is absolutely devastating agricultural production in the state of California. Are we just having bad luck, or is there something else to all of this?’
‘The most telling evidence that Monsanto’s strategy has been an overwhelming succes is the number of former Monsanto employees who have been given jobs in the FDA and other regulatory agencies that monitor Monsanto’s products.
Margaret Miller is just one example. While working as a Monsanto researcher, she contributed to a scientific report for the FDA on Monsanto’s genetically engineered bovine growth hormone. Shortly before the report was submitted, Miller left Monsanto to work at the FDA, where her first job was to review the same report! Assisting Miller was another former Monsanto researcher, Susan Sechen.
Needless to say, the FDA accepted Monsanto’s findings, which became the basis for its approval of Monsanto’s genetically engineered bovine growth hormone and its decision not to require labels on milk produced through the use of the artificial hormone.’
‘Capital controls are a favorite tool in a bankrupt or domineering government’s toolbox. You should be familiar with them and how to preempt them.
There are numerous countries that currently have capital controls in one form or another—China, Colombia, Iceland, Cyprus, India, Argentina, Venezuela, Ukraine, and Cuba, to name a few.
It’s not exactly a secret that the West generally and the US in particular are moving deeper into bankruptcy and are seeking more and more control over all facets of their citizens’ lives. These trends will sooner or later lead to an overt attempt to control the flow of money in some way—just as they have in other countries throughout history that have headed down similar paths.’
‘Cancer rates are on the rise worldwide, which means that in coming generations more and more people will have their lives turned inside out with a diagnosis, and with having to turn their attention to battling this new plague. The psychological effects of having your world turned on its so quickly can be devastating, and often put people in a depressed, anxious and negative emotional state.
With so many types of cancers affecting people these days, there is no such thing as a single cure for cancer, because each type is different and will respond to different remedies. Finding the miracle cure often requires an intense search, deviation from standard doctor’s recommendations, a huge investment of time and money, and tremendous amount of hope, belief and faith. Not everything works for every cancer, but, some things consistently aid in the struggle with all cancers, like the right diet, appropriate exercise, and a proper mental attitude and outlook.
Having a positive mental outlook may, or may not, actually help one survive cancer, but without question, having a positive disposition while battling cancer makes the battle easier and can help one to be more accepting of any outcome, including the possibility of losing the battle.’
‘A former Bank of America senior vice president who conspired to rig municipal bond bids will not face prison time, despite pleading guilty.
Douglas Campbell escaped a possible 35-year jail sentence because he cooperated with prosecutors, investigating bid rigging in the municipal bond market which is worth $3.7tn (£2.2tn, €2.7tn).
He pleaded guilty in 2010 to three counts of wire fraud, conspiracy, and conspiracy to retain trade.
Campbell received a fine of just $300 and no further penalty.’
‘The bombshell report by Pulitzer Prize-winning veteran journalist Seymour Hersh titled, “The Red Line and the Rat Line,” contains many shocking revelations for those following the West’s version of reality regarding the Syrian conflict. It particularly sheds new light on the August 2013 chemical attack that left over a thousand dead (US estimates) and thousands more affected.
It reveals that not only was the Syrian government not behind the attack, but that it was a false flag operation designed specifically to serve as an impetus for Western military intervention. It also reveals that the West’s desire to intervene in the wake of the chemical attack was not to disarm Syria of its chemical weapons as was stated to the public, but instead was intended to completely destroy the Syrian military and save its militant proxies who were already well on their way to losing the war.’
‘The New York Police Department on Tuesday launched a social media campaign aimed at drumming up some feel-good images of everyday people striking a friendly pose with the city’s finest. But they got a lot more than they bargained for.’
‘Al Gore is coming under fire for promoting population control in Africa, saying that citizens of African nations must have their fertility “managed.”
Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos last week, former vice president Al Gore asserted that it’s crucial for global philanthropists to impose “fertility management” on Africa. No one called that racist.
Gore, who apparently mismanaged his fertility by having four children, praised the “wonderful work’ of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation: “Depressing the rate of child mortality, educating girls, empowering women and making fertility management ubiquitously available — so women can chose how many children and the spacing of children — is crucial to the future shape of human civilization.”
He warned, “Africa is projected to have more people than China and India by mid-century — more than China and India combined by end of the century, and this is one of the causal factors that must be addressed.”’
‘With BrightSource Energy donating cash to Harry Reid’s political slush fund, and with Harry Reid in control of the BLM via Neil Korntze, it should be pretty clear why Harry Reid has pro-actively taken a public stand and unleashed verbal violence on the BLM/Bundy battle. I have a good hunch he’s close to getting a big solar deal clinched from which he’ll stand to make a lot of money eventually and he needs the Gold Butte piece to cement the deal.
That truth is, given Harry Reid’s history of abusing the power of his Senate seat – Reid is the one who is the terrorist.’
‘Prior to World War I, nearly all psychiatrists worked in mental institutions, where they dealt with the committed and insane. But they were really just caretakers; they didn’t cure anyone. In fact, in those institutions, the “inmates” were very often subjected to cruel and inhumane psychiatric experimentation, and much of it was inflicted upon them to keep them quiet, not make them better.
When the Great War broke out, psychiatry made its first foray into the military. For example, in Germany, soldiers who were unwilling to return to the hellish trench warfare at the front were subjected to what was called the “Kaufman Cure.” It was anything but a cure, however; it was a procedure that involved shooting painful electrical currents through the soldier’s body while a practitioner intoned hypnotic suggestions. Its victims rightly deemed it a form of torture, but the Kaufman Cure was widely seen as successful by psychiatrists because it did indeed induce terrified soldiers to return to the front lines, and in a rush.’
‘As Natural News readers and fans already know, we’re hot on the trail pinpointing sources of heavy metals and understanding how they impair our physical and mental health. Now a groundbreaking study conducted in the United States on arsenic in drinking water has found something truly astounding: a mere 5 parts per billion (.005 ppm) of arsenic caused “reductions in Full Scale, Working Memory, Perceptual Reasoning and Verbal Comprehension scores” in children.(1)
The research was led by Joseph Graziano, PhD, professor of Environmental Health Sciences at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health. It involved 272 children from three school districts in Maine.’
‘A new academic paper by Princeton University’s Martin Gilens and Northwestern University’s Benjamin Page has made national headlines by concluding that wealthly Americans almost always get what they want from the political system regardless of what middle-class and working-class people seek from the government.
AlterNet’s Steven Rosenfeld spoke with Benjamin Page about this research and the prospects for political change and a progressive agenda.
Steven Rosenfeld: Tell us what you mean when you say that the U.S. is no longer a democracy in the way most people perceive it, or think they understand what a democracy is?’
‘Quinoa is rising up the popularity charts as a food staple in U.S. and Europe. A growing spate of positive coverage cites quinoa (pronounced KEEN-wa) as a high-protein grain-like relative of spinach and beets which is a newly discovered gluten-free superfood. Its growing popularity has also spawned a growing source of controversy, following reports that high global quinoa prices put the crop out of reach for the people who grow it.
Many Americans want to get down to the bottom line: Should I eat it or not? Tanya Kerrsen, a Bolivia-based researcher for Food First who studies quinoa, thinks that is the wrong question.
“The debate has largely been reduced to the invisible hand of the marketplace, in which the only options for shaping our global food system are driven by (affluent) consumers either buying more or buying less,” she writes. “…whichever way you press the lever (buy more/buy less) there are bound to be negative consequences, particularly for poor farmers in the Global South.”
So what should you know about quinoa and its complex story?’
‘Cameroon investigative journalist Charles Onana has published many books about the real culprits of the assassination of President Juvenal Habyarimana who are still being shielded from accountability and they are not those who have been “officially accused” as perpetrators so far, according to him.
Pierre Péan, a renowned French investigative journalist and Keith Harmon Snow, an American Investigative journalist, all have factually point out that the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) and Paul Kagame were responsible for the assassination of Juvénal Habyarimana, and therefore of having sparked the inter-ethnic killings in 1994! The list is long!
In this special call for articles by Pambazuka about “Rwanda – 20 years on after the genocide”, I would like to take this opportunity to highlight, provide and share with Pambazuka readers the new facts about Rwanda and the Kagame regime that have emerged recently and which prove that the last 20 years have been years of wasted efforts by the Kagame and the Museveni regimes to try to cover up the truth, but in vain, about what happened in Rwanda in 1994!’
‘Western-backed “Holy Warriors” in Syria attacked an aid convoy of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent in Salmiyeh city on Saturday, killing five civilian aid workers and injuring nine. Attacks against humanitarian aid convoys constitute one of the most serious war crimes.
The attack, as well as core NATO and GCC members’ use of aid convoys and ambulances for smuggling weapons and troops implicate core NATO and GCC member, arguably the NATO alliance itself in war crimes.
The Syrian news agency SANA quotes local sources in Salmiyeh as saying that the blast from a car bomb killed five civilians, including one of the Red Crescent (Miras) drivers, while nine were injured.
The so-called “rebels” blew up an explosive-laden vehicle as four Miras trucks were passing the bakery in the city of Salmiyeh in Hama.’
‘On the 11th anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq (launched in March 2003), it is important to emphasize the true motives for this attack and occupation and its horrendously destructive impact that continues today. Both the Iraq and Afghanistan wars stem from the needs of U.S. and Western capitalism for resources and markets.
Capitalism has inflicted war on most of humanity for centuries to acquire the world’s resources and markets. The establishment of capitalism as a global economic system by European imperialists has killed more than a billion people, most of them in the Global South.’
‘The news today is that there is more violence on the Temple Mount, with Palestinian rioting spreading out to the Muslim Quarter of the Old City. The source of this violence is clear: rightwing Jewish efforts to conduct religious rituals on the Temple Mount. Haaretz:
Most incidents involve Jews attempting to access the area in order to pray or demonstrate a Jewish presence. The growing strength of the Jewish Temple Movement and other organizations that seek to change the status quo on the Temple Mount has exacerbated these tensions, as has the crisis in the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.
It turns out that these zealots are getting support in the United States. This is from an American charity that supports Israeli soldiers, undated:’
‘At least nine people were killed and at least 35 others were wounded in shootings across Chicago on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. On Thursday police announced that a man had been arrested on charges of firing on a number of motorists recently, wounding three of them, on Kansas City-area highways.
On April 13 three people, including a child, were murdered at two Jewish-affiliated facilities in Overland Park, Kan., leading to the arrest of a white supremacist. On April 12, armed militias in Nevada got the federal government to retreat, allowing rancher Cliven Bundy to continue to graze his cattle on public land.
All this happened over a span of only nine days in the life of a country where more than 250 people are shot every day. In America, violence and the threat of lethal force are the ways we communicate. Violence—the preferred form of control by the state—is an expression of our hatred, self-loathing and lust for vengeance. And this bloodletting will increasingly mark a nation in terminal decline.’
‘Popular support for the incumbent Syrian government is increasing in the run-up to the country’s presidential election, a political analyst tells Press TV.
“The Syrian government has broad support, even greater support than was the case perhaps a year or two ago in light of all that has happened,” said Mark Weber, a director of the Institute for Historical Review from California, in a Tuesday interview.
The Syrian nation is concerned that in the absence of the government of President Bashar al-Assad, the “very divided, fractious and fanatic” militants would take power, the analyst added.
Weber pointed to the UN’s criticism of Syria’s planned election and noted that the international body favors a transition in Syria which will be in line with the interests of the US and its allies.’
‘Israeli forces have abducted at least 14 Palestinians after carrying out raids across the occupied West Bank.
Reports indicate that a number of Israeli armored vehicles invaded Burqa village, located west of the northern West Bank city of Nablus, early Wednesday.
The Israeli forces caused property damage and kidnapped six Palestinians in the village.
Israeli soldiers also reportedly invaded the village of Deir Samet, situated southwest of the southern West Bank district of Hebron, where they abducted a Palestinian.’
‘The Filipino police use violent measures to disperse protesters who rallied against US President Barack Obama’s visit to their country.
On Wednesday, the protesters gathered outside the US Embassy in Manila to show their outrage over a looming pact that will increase the American military presence in the Philippines.
“Obama’s visit is not a symbol of friendship, but signals the US plan to re-occupy the Philippines. He will meet with … Aquino to push for measures that would further tighten the US economic, military and all-around control over the country,” said Roger Soluta, Secretary General of Kilusang Mayo Uno — one of the groups present at the protest rally.’
‘Two rockets fired from inside Syria have landed in neighboring Lebanon’s eastern Bekaa Valley region, hitting the border towns of Britel and Taybeh.
Reports say the rockets, which hit the Lebanese towns on Wednesday, were fired from the positions of foreign-backed militants along the Lebanese border with Syria.
There have been no immediate reports of casualties so far.
The militant group, Liwaa Ahrar al-Sunna-Baalbek, claimed responsibility for the attack on Britel.’
