Something dark and scary from my early years:

Quote:
Delicate

I’m trapped in rest
Regardless of anything
I’m feeling my flesh too organic by far
Scared I might get broken or rot
As a fly we live and die
The brain a structured pulp
Pensively contained in a forest
Of rotting heads

Why do pet goldfish suddenly decide to die?

Quote:
Death of a goldfish

Your final resting place ‘neath the enchanted shade
Of a graveyard parasol.
Returned not to sea but soil.
An unnatural perversion
But surely no more perverse than your doom of a life

I would watch you, like me
Gathering speed
Your feathery fins flying through your element
Gliding so gloriously back to tropical seas from which your memory was fished
Until rudely curbed by the hard plastic of your prison
Stopped in mid-swim
Confused, you turn around, swim until the reality of you fate hits you in the face

Poor bugger.

I hope now you’re at peace underground
And not painfully limboed in the wrong place
stifled by soil.

Haven't posted in a while so I'm making up for it. I hope you enjoy these poems. They're odd but interesting .

Quote:

Refuel and Rest

Rows and rows of abused human doings
The VDU that steals the eyes,
Salary is blackmail
Eyes mind all learning senses,
Hones to God like perfection over 50 million year.

Forced onto a glowing buzzing radioactive box to muse over meaningless abstractions.
To return home to bask in the brief liberty of leisure.

Scratching an escape

Looking to history for clues to live
since now doesn’t exist,
It’s too intangible a game,
Wish I was smart enough to guess,

Correct the mistakes before they’re made,
Instead of joining ranks of foolish mice,

The past exists to guide the way
We all avoid, to get lost in the woods,
To illuminate a small patch of future darkness
Pushing at the walls of a cage to scratch an escape with words.

I've been digging through my files and I can't believe I wrote a love poem....
Quote:
Morning

I rise solemnly as the day forces its way through my window,
Leaden arms acknowledge their duty and march from fleet footed dreams of you.
Oh I’ve lost my baby to the nine to five and my bed is empty when the day arrives,
She’s been bought and sold and she’ll be on sale until she’s old.

Morning unbroken she’s driven from repose
Prised from the bliss of a loving embrace by bribery to follow a futile paper chase.
She’s freed at the weekend but boy she’s so dead,
She scarcely has strength to get off her head.

Like a lost stranger she’s blown in with the night,
Our love still alive with faintly beating heart,
She reaches towards me a half extinguished light
But we touch bonding to a melt then the loving can start.

But alas it can’t last and our frozen dawn embrace,
So rudely effaced by the alarm clock that strikes like a power drill,
Scattering us apart into small broken pieces of consciousness.
I contemplate the lonely hours ahead
That seem to last as long as a disastrous childhood
While the bed which held her warmth cools to a cold void.

I wrote this when I left England to live in France for a few years.

Quote:
Traitor’s Gate

I recoil at my old self, he who sat in pubs for hours,
The island xenophobe for whom Python was a moral code,
I now scrape at new soil, brown and famed for its fertility
And take in gulps of fresh air, not the muggy sour kind from a fetid isle
But the cool air of alpine glacier and the warm fury of the mistral

The forest seeps into my veins, this Francophilia
A virus so volatile that my country sickens me now,
I am immune to its charms and I wonder how I lived so long in such a wretched place,
Here pampered with plenty, wine spills out from Bordeaux,

At election time, your politics delight and confuse me,
Like mushrooms, some are wild some are suspect and vaguely toxic.

Nurtured in a sceptic womb on this sceptred isle,
My wet nurse had alcohol flowing in her breasts,
The toxic cocktail of myths of greatness dribbled on rose lips,
We filed our sails with gusty chanting
We ruled the waves and God was an Englishman
Now we see Withernsea where the sea soon will be
As it clings precariously to the land as the waves snap at its heels,
And will one day devour the land.
White cliffs beaming broadly at visitors from abroad but slowly rotted by the sea.

The flimsy heart that beats a tune,
My tongue has become stiff, it dies in my mouth,
Words which I once wielded freely,
That would pour like a vomit of erudition,
are lost.

Strange looking back on those muddled years...

Quote:
She pities

She buzzes perpetually around me,
Like a fly that picks on the sick,
I can’t defend myself against her brutal love,
Or her simpering attention, the sycophantic idolatry
That so sadly stains the sweetness of desire.
Her kisses choke me and coax my tongue into speaking lies.
Pinioned to a breast reluctantly comfortable,
By an arm-lock embrace.

All thoughts of escape deflate and die, then think,
Escape to where?
How dizzy I feel, how my stomach turns,
With every day of domesticated demi-drama,
How dull my life has become, how the self is locked.

So now a lifeboat in which I strike out alone
Into drab predictable tempest.
Oh storm of life take me, wild wind,
Turbulent tempest show me your fury,
Pitch me out into mountainous waves
Wild foam lash at me,
I want to know drowning the falling down,
And to know no bottom.

Hmmmm... It's hard to say.... The 'me' who wrote those poems was a very different 'me' to the one today. It's hard to explain. I was on a totally different wavelength back then, I remember it but it seems alien to me now....

Weird....That's why writing stuff down is so cool. It helps you remember and picture who you were before....

At the moment I'm working on a play... I won't say too much because it's a good little idea and it's funny as hell. I will hopefully release it sometime in 2012.

it sounds like you are having fun. I think poems are like photographs in a way. Except that a poem can paint a picture that leads up to the point where the picture was taken and move beyond. Aha maybe they are like home movies? Ooh, got to go and lie down I think

Default To Think of You.

To think of you,

is to flood the valleys of my heart, with refreshing waters that flow from melted mountain top,

in warm and welcome spring.

Tell me who could ever stop?

For knowing you, is knowing everything.

You are the tree that stands majestic in an ancient woodland glade.

You are the reason that such tender thoughts of love, are even ever made.

You hold the delicate beauty of a fragile butterfly within your very touch.

Your gentle tender kindness is, but one, reason that I love you so very much.

You hold me safe within a hidden nest within a hidden tree, who could fail such flimsy test?

For within your arms, my heart is ever free.

Default A message from the 99%.

I was taken in by your every word
I did your deeds because I cared.
I chased around doing this and that
bought the t-shirt and wore the hat.
You tried to scare and make me frightened,
but ironically thats when I became enlightened.
I took a step back and saw you for what you are.
You lie, you cheat and control from afar.
You bully, you call, you discredit the small.
But now I have a message for YOU and for all,
I don't cower, I stand up tall.
I've started to open door after door
and instead of a whimper I let out a ROAR!
THIS LION YOU CREATED SLEEPS NO MORE!

Default Agony

O what agony enthralls my bones.

Like the widow my days are carried out with ceaseless mourning.

What troubleth thee my son? And thy heart to what direction doth it groan?

O that thy sorrow would be quenched upon the morning.

For thy sorrow is trivial.

And as the fool thou hast returned to the vomit from whence thou hast came.

Reunite with thy brother my child so thy days shall once again be lively and convivial.

For thy emotions do not prevail and endure for wretched harlot's game.

Default The Tree That I Will Grow.

They didn't destroy me then, and they can not do it now.
For now is really when, my truth will start to grow.
The moment of this now, shows me clearly when, I rate myself a ten, my worth, can take a bow.
They didn't subdue me then, and they can not do it now.
For now is really when, my heart will start to glow.
The moment of this when, is here in the now, and even way back then, I knew, I would get there somehow.
I did not falter then and I will not falter now, for I am the tree.
The tree that I will grow.

Default I'm not that good....

But I'll still post

As I woke up early one morning
To see the sun shining
The earth's beauty
Nature doing it's duty
What would I give to be
Nothing but a little bee
And to have a simple life
Instead of one of strife?

The ground is filled with grass green
And reminds of the beauty that has been
Around since the beginning
The little birds are singing
The day is so beautiful
that I say Nature is wonderful

It's an attempt at a sonnet. Horrible attempt though

Top effort guys. I love the way this thread gets nothing for a few weeks and then loads of posts. I guess there are waves of creativity flowing around the world and when the tides in we all benefit andwhen it's out, we all hide in our rock pools. Shit, I'd better write a poem before the tide goes out again lol

Raggie, great to see you've decided not to give up writing. I was worried you had jacked it in

hey. Be kind to yourself. It's lovely. You have taken nature and weaved gentle words that show your courage and conviction. You have the ability, so what if some people may say 'ah but it's not technically correct?' Your poem is lovely. Please write more and more. I won't be the only one who enjoyed it

Hi thommo, I wanted to jack it in. Truth is I had a lot going on and my head was banging for days. I had to give up on my blog because I didn't know how to respond to comments. I was embarrased and shy. I get embarassed putting so many poems in this thread. I just love writing them and don't know what to do with them. Thanks to meeting you, through being a member of this forum, I found an enjoyment in using words. I am going to take this enjoyment to the local poetry club and see where it takes me. I have come through a great change recently. I hope that I may inspire others to have a go at doing what it is they would love to do. For I have been inspired by you among many others on this forum and other places I visit. I think that as long as we all feel inspired to inspire others, we will be ok.
