http://www.smh.com.au/national/first...0403-9s1j.html First bikie arrested after change of law * Dylan Welch and Jonathan Dart * April 4, 2009 A HELLS ANGEL has become the first bikie to be arrested after legislation was passed to clamp down on outlaw gangs. The club member was wearing full gang colours when police pulled him over about 4.30pm yesterday on Garden Street in Alexandria near the Australia Technology Park. A witness who arrived at the scene soon afterwards said the police had forced the man off his bike and taken him into custody. "There was a Hells Angel lying on the ground in full colours. He'd just been arrested," the witness said. "He had a handgun pulled off him and I saw that they were clearing the chamber [of the pistol]. Then I heard him say, 'can you loosen the handcuffs?"' Police confirmed the man had been questioned by members of Strike Force Raptor, a newly formed 75-strong police contingent created to target outlaw motorcycle gangs after a 29-year-old Hells Angels member, Anthony Zervas, was killed two weeks ago at Sydney Airport. Shortly after the arrest, a police spokeswoman confirmed that search warrants had been obtained for properties in Surry Hills and Alexandria, which were tied to the detainee. But she could not provide any details of the searches, such as whether the properties were owned by the outlaw gangs. "Police still have to go through there pretty thoroughly, so it could take a while before they are able to take stock," the spokeswoman said. About the same time as the arrest, police also pulled over and took into custody a man driving a black ute. The spokeswoman said it did not appear that he was linked to outlaw bikie gangs.

biker gangs are usually just violent drug dealers and are a waste of oxygen. should dump them all on an island somewhere and let them fight amongst themselves , if any survive, they can form thier gay republic there.

Are you one of these holier than thou plebs who preach by the PTB? Some biker gangs are maybe outlawish, but by no means all are. Some are pissed off at the big brother state that is running roughshod over people who just want some freedom in their lives! Get a grip man! |

So......somebody declares that they don't like a particular group, the way that they dress, their associations with each other...........Basically, just like the Criminal Justice bill, it can be applied to seemingly anything.
Also, these people are not convicted criminals with parole conditions. They are suspects. No investigation or evidence required, the list goes on. These are just things off the top of my head. http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20090403...raliacrimegang Tough laws against biker gangs passed in Australia AFP Tough laws against biker gangs passed in Australia AFP/Pool/File – A forensic policeman at a crime scene in Sydney airport. Tough new anti-terrorism style laws allowing … Fri Apr 3, 1:47 am ET SYDNEY (AFP) – Tough new anti-terrorism style laws allowing biker gangs to be outlawed have been rushed through an Australian state parliament amid growing fears of gang warfare. The crackdown follows escalating violence sparked by the fatal bludgeoning of the brother of a Hells Angel at Sydney Airport last month, which was followed by reprisal shootings and bomb threats. Under the laws passed by the upper house of the New South Wales state parliament around midnight Thursday, police will be able to apply for a motorcycle gang to be declared a criminal organisation by a judge. Once declared, members of the gang found to be associating with one another could be jailed for up to two years. "This legislation has the capacity to cause severe damage to these organisations," said John Hatzistergos, the state's attorney-general. Civil libertarians and legal groups have criticised the laws, saying they undermined the right to freedom of association and increased the risk of police corruption. But Hatzistergos said he was confident there had been adequate scrutiny of the laws, and that they would withstand a constitutional challenge. "If these people want to act like terrorists, we'll deal with them as terrorists," New South Wales Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione said ahead of the laws being passed. South Australia has already introduced similar laws allowing the banning of specific motorcycle clubs in the same way that anti-terrorism laws proscribe particular extremist groups. Experts say the biker violence stems from turf wars over drug distribution, particularly methamphetamine or "ice." The recent clashes raised fears that long-simmering tensions between gangs such as the Hells Angels, Comancheros, Bandidos and Rebels will explode into a full-scale biker war.
