Totally!

He was recently happily married, his wife is 7 months pregnant, Slipknot were on the highest high they've ever been on and closest they've ever been (despite being on a hiatus)

Either he died in 'suspicious' circumstances or he truly just passed away.

I'm a massive fan of Slipknot and this has become a massive shock to me.

The goat and 6 mean nothing, band wise. The goat is from their IOWA album cover and 6 is the number for that member in the band (Shawn 'Clown' Crahan) there just so happens to be the CBS eye behind them at the grammys in that photo too.

So if the media chose it for it's obvious occult looking links, then fair enough, but that shit wasn't intended by the band. If it wasn't for Slipknot, I wouldn't be on this board. Period.

Thanks for pointing that out subliminal. It's shit when someone whose influenced you dies.

In regards to the picture I suppose I just find it weird that they changed it.

Have you learned nothing about the media from this forum?

I think because no one would know who they're talking about with a number of members in one shot, so they cut it down to just him

This death is seriously suspicious though, it's very remiscent of Heath Ledger and I really don't like that.

He was happily married, baby on the way, off the drugs, about to be in a formed band of rock/metal legends whilst Slipknot was on hiatus. There is no reason as to why he'd committ suicide. So this is seriously off..

Although he was a huge heroin/hardcore drugs addict a few years ago, could've caught up with him and had a heart attack.

I have but it makes more sense this time around that they've cut the photo to just him so people have a clue who they're reporting on. But then I don't believe in coincidences.. and their choice of picture was perfect for them

Either they're cleaning house and he was a liability - what use is a debt-riddled drug user to them, when his pet is dead? Or he got unlucky.

This is from the Daily Mirror. It's Simon Montjack and Brittany Murphy's mother holding what is apparently (according to the article), Brittany's favourite photograph of herself.

Quite a sad photo, in my opinion.

Adventures in Synthetic Biology

By ANDREW C. REVKIN

A comic book explaining synthetic biology, created to illustrate a 2005 paper in the journal Nature. While geologists are debating whether Earth really has entered a new epoch, the Anthropocene, named for the dominant influence on the planet’s geochemistry these days, there’s no question that biology will never be quite the same again.

The latest achievement of J. Craig Venter — rebooting a bacterial cell as a different species by giving it a man-made genetic instruction manual — is just one step on the long inevitable path into synthetic biology.

Humans have modified organisms for ages, making the dog species as variegated as Chihuahuas and mastiffs, transforming corn from a slender grass into a stalk studded with cobs of nutritious grain. But now we’re writing the software from scratch (Venter even included a “watermark” in the million-letter code inserted into the re-purposed bacterium).

Bacteria long ago were engineered to churn out insulin. Now science is poised to tell a bacterium what it is. Listening to talk radio this morning, I heard Glenn Beck railing about the research as it if had been some classified project that was suddenly revealed.

In fact, some specialists in bioethics say the ethical implications of engineered life have been explored deeply and mostly well ahead of the laboratory work. At a Wilson Center event last year, Arthur Caplan of the University of Pennsylvania said the perception that ethics always lagged science is just that — perception. In most instances, he said, the legitimately thorny issues cast as ethical problems are really policy or political challenges. Caplan added that the religious concerns are mainly about the fairness and purpose of the technology, not so much the manipulation of nature (which has been going on throughout human, and religious, history).

Caplan’s views aside, it’s clear that this is an arena worth a lot of deep inquiry. The unfolding oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico shows what can happen when planners don’t adequately consider scenarios in girding against “ low probability, high consequence” risks.

As I’ve written many times before, the planet, on many levels, is increasingly what humans choose to make of it. And the results — for better or worse — will be shaped by a mix of values and technology.

The work that is under way in artificial biology is essentially inevitable given the human thirst to press the frontiers of understanding and technological possibility.

The challenge, particularly because corporate interests are involved, is to sustain sufficient transparency and peer and public review that the odds of unintended consequences are kept as low as possible.

There are all kinds of resources offering more background on engineered life, including this small sample:

- Synthetic Biology (a Web site maintained by researchers at a variety of institutions focused on ethical advancement of the field)

- Adventures in Synthetic Biology (a great comic book)

- Synthetic Biology Project (an ongoing exploration of the field and its policy implications by the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars)

- Synthetic Biology (a project of the Hastings Center on bioethics)

- The Promise and Perils of Synthetic Biology (an analysis in the Atlantis Project, a journal of technology and society)

- Sizing Up the ‘Synthetic Cell’ (a roundup of views by the journal Nature)

Weigh in with your thoughts and other sources of useful background

There is nothing 'synthetic' about the genome they created, it is all from normal chemicals...they have not 'created' something out of nothing, they have copied a genome and then re-built it piece by piece...quite moronic really with no philosophical implications...no different than mutilating a frog, splicing genes etc...these people are all frog killers at heart...
