I think the Dandy kind of lost it's way when Harry Hill got involved, too much celebrity, and pop culture, seemed a bit too adult orientated too. Still, sad to see it go.

Used to read it as a little boy...Happy memories.

A sign of the times alas. The first of many closures one suspects. And in this day of instant, 24 hour news you wonder how long national newspapers will last...

It's a sad day. Used to love the Dandy as a kid. Can't believe its circulation was down to 8000

I had a few dandy and beano comics when I was a little kid and also watched their cartoon counterparts on T.V to. They were good as 'entertainment' and to pass the time; when you are at your nans house after-school and she only has 1-5 channels ahaha. But in my opinion Manga/Anime and old superhero cartoons/comics are much more sophisticated, humorous, diverse, has empowering philosophy, wisdom and life's meanings of good or bad, wrong from right etc... Then the crap you get on T.V for children nowadays that is fully roided up with psychological-subliminal-manipulational-mindnumbing shite.

It is indeed an end of an era. I think I'll buy the last ever edition, just my way of bidding it farewell.

The owners think going digital and putting the Dandy on line will save it, who are they kidding, the last paper issue is the death of it.

I've now seen a recent issue of the Dandy - WTF No wonder it's had to close down. It's absolute shite now. Why didn't they stick with the good old traditional layout? This bilge was the Dandy in name alone. Desperate Dan doesn't look anything like he used to and you've got fucking celebs running about all over the place

Everything good has to be destroyed by the MSM, even comics.

Never was a Dandy or Beano fan. 2000AD was my fave as a 10-16 yr old, i remember Prog 1 with the free space spinner! Saturday mornings & 2000AD= Glorious....Also loved Starlord before it merged with 2000AD and also Vulcan comic with kelly's Eye and the Steel Claw.... Going back further was Shiver & Shake, Monster Fun, Whoopee and Whizzer and Chips- happy daze.... My brother, being the military type, liked Action and Battle comics....
I grew up from a very early age with Marvel comics too, digging the Fantastic Four, the Hulk, Thor etc.... Oh, and as an adult: VIZ.

D.c. Thompson has steadfastly keep on making comics for children for decades. It's just a shame that children don't keep reading them....
