Why are nearly all Atheists white?

Where i live and grew up it is mainly populated by black people and i have also lived in other predominately black areas and never ever have i seen or associated or spoken to any black person that doesn't believe in god. Everyone is either Christian or a Muslim convert. You've got the churches, the mosques, the preachers, the jehovah's witness, the 'Jesus loves' stickers all over, but in the mainly white suburbs you might have an odd church, but religion seems hidden from view.

Try telling a Rasta man you don't believe in God.

But this extends to America as well. I challenge you to take a tally of how many atheists live in Bedford Stuyvesant or Jamaica, Queens for example, it will be a VERY low number, if any. Same thing in areas like Peckham in the UK. You just don't get any atheists that live in poor, predominately black and Muslim areas. They seem to come from middle class, mainly white areas and backgrounds.

Nearly every notable atheist speaker who does debates and lectures are middle-upper class white men, but you get many black religious figures and preachers especially in the States who are from places like inner city Chicago.

So what gives, why is Religion everywhere where the population is multicultural and diverse, but in the more wealthy, mainly-white areas not so much?

perhaps cause in the ghetto they literally have nothing, so they have to believe in something like religion otherwise whats the point in living, im not really sure i could be wrong

Well i thought that too before, but then if you look at even middle class blacks, they might not shout their religion from the rooftops but most still have a devout grandmother and a strong religious based family, and i have very rarely seen even middle class blacks describe themselves as an Atheist.

Malcolm X, Marcus Garvey, Muhammad Ali, Bob Marley, Tupac, Sam Cooke, Martin Luther King Jr, Stokely Carmichael...the list is endless.all of them believed strongly in God and never abandoned their love for God even when they got in prominent positions and/or became wealthy

Education even white bums got at least A-levels, I dunno what the yank equivalent is....Then they do a lot of reading of books and upon a multitude of topics on the internet.

They are reasonable people who understand the zen of eastern philosophy and societal harmony yet still cannot devote their life to a myth. Once you've read a few you see a pattern and it sure as hell ain't one that convinces. Mythologies I mean, the root of all religions.

Oh yea and read some Dawkins must get around to it, My brother has divulged much about it to me but other parts I pretty much surmised by logic....It's genetic the need to feel or believe their is something out there...And reason why is because it brought people together probably one of the biggest socialization mechanisms.

When you grow up learning physics and chemistry and that 247 million years ago the Permean-Triassic extinction wiped out 95% of ALL life on earth and that all mammals from the doormouse to the blue whale are descendants of one clever cow called Lystrosaurus, it's hard to believe some loving spook in the sky who refuses to communicate with us on a rational basis created us about six or seven thousand years ago.

On the other hand, if you don't like the thought of being burnt at the stake or having a brank screwed onto your head because you say stuff like, the earth goes around the sun, that's an excellent reason to believe in spooks.

Not all whites are atheists, not all blacks are atheists, and so on. I mostly think it has to do with our society, especially in the west. I find that those who use hardcore drugs, have sex with just about anyone, live at the bar, get their reality from TV, their music from the radio, and their knowledge from dumbed down academia are usually atheists. Actually they usually don't believe in anything, it's like they are just living a lie and a dream.

I'm not an atheist or an agnostic in the least, however I am white living in the same society I just mentioned, but I don't accept the literal interpretation of the "holy" books for proof. I check out all different forms of scripture and philosophy, plus I have personal experience with what is termed "God".

People in Arabia, and Middle East, the Women cover there body in Veils and blocks Vitamin D, lack of this can cause brain Malfunction and DNA Damage, through this there Brain are more likely to believe Bizarre meta-magical beliefs found in Religion and Schizophrenia as Facts.

Middle class Europeans and North Americans are probably the most (maybe only) left wingers in the world. Most of the world, and other groups of the world are conservative, they preserve the cultural values and traditions, were as white Europeans have had theirs eroded since the 60's cultural revolution. Middle class institutions, such as university are usually leaning heavily into leftism and post modernity, and i suppose they don't need the support that religion/community gives as much, as they have their wealth supporting them.

How is it a generalization? I think you'll find that nearly every single black family, particularly from the 'ghetto' has very religious grandmothers, grandfathers, uncles and aunties in them and it gets passed on to the younger generation. I don't know about the Chinese as they don't tend to live in these areas. I am thinking more of black people and people from the middle east and south Asia. But even with the Chinese, you don't see them openly announcing 'I am an atheist' 'God doesn't exist' the way Richard Dawkins' sycophants do. Nobody really knows what the Chinese believe as they keep to themselves but in black and south Asian communities God is everywhere and is embraced, and the notion of there being 'no God' is inconceivable to especially the older generation in these communities.

If i go up to an elderly black church lady and say 'Why do you believe in god, do you know it's all a myth' like Richard Dawkins does she we probably look at me like i'm from another planet.

Black rappers talk about and embrace God all the time, many white artists are atheists or skeptics.

Yes the atheist position seems cold and distant and a bit cruel too when they tell people not to pray cause it's a waste of time, and praying and their connection to God is all that keeps some people going. And for the atheist who enjoys a good life to try to take that away is horrible.
