Default Beer or cider? Smokey or smooth/sweet whiskey?

Which do you prefer? Ale, porter or the 15% imported beer? Apple cider or pear?

What's your favourite whiskey?

I love the good smokeys - and my faves are Lagavulin, Laphroaig 18 and Caol Ila 16.

Guinness in England because I've never seen Irish Porter on draft here. The very occasional lager, but I'm up for trying all ales often with strange names, from small local breweries or little known English ones, some have odd scents too, which is a novelty.

Cider no thanks drank too much of that in my youth. Whiskey yes the only spirits I like Glenfidich aged (can't spell it) not had the chance to try expensive whiskeys but would like too. I'm no conessuer.
Crabbies ginger beer is ok.

I'm not a big drinker, not had a swig for ages.

I don't drink often anymore but:

- Ale over Lager (although a decent cold lager can be refreshing)

- Definately apple cider. Pears too sweet.

- A nice smokey single malt whiskey

Overall... Quality over quantity when I choose to have a drink

ales, porters, stouts, barley wine (beer) and some lagers. A handful of favourites off the top of my head are (not in any order):

1... Innis & Gunn oak-cask aged ... hints of interesting flavours from the oak

2... Chimay ... a trappist beer (by monks) from Belgium - 11% dark/rich/warm

3... Propeller Porter - great porter from a local craft brewery

4... Propeller IPA - very stong hoppy IPA from a local craft brewery

5... Garrison "Hop Yard" ... strong hoppy ale from a local craft brewery

6... Garrison "Martello Stout" ... from a local craft brewery

7... Garrison "Ol' Fog Burner" ... 11.3% "barley wine" , rich/warm/dark

8... 'Granite Brewery's "Old Cardinal"' strong ale ... from a local craft brewery

9... Fuller's London Porter ... great porter from UK (in a can here)

There are tons more

I used to drink, but since becomming more spiritual and most especially moving down a buddhist path, not anymore. Though I haven't taken the 5 precepts (yet) I feel its best to avoid it in order to "prepare".

But when I did drink, it all depended on what mood I was in. Most drank beer (namely Bud (avoided heniken like the plague)) But I did like cider too. I think I prefer cider over beer due to the crisp appley taste.

As for whiskey, I loved the sweetness of Southern Comfort, though that last time I drank southern comfort it was a bottle and a half (just over a year ago) it was the first time I had to be carried home. That being said that was the last time I got drunk.

Woke up in my living room with nettle stings, missing my trousers after having been sick all over the floor and couch. lol NEVER again. THOUGH I was one of the lucky ones who never EVER had a hangover. N e whoo, thus concludes my ramble.

Wow, I didn't know there was such a variety. Where do you get all these, pub or supermarket? I'm more of a cider drinker myself, but I'm partial to the occasional good beer.

I used to only drink the smooth whiskeys (glen...), till a friend of mine who has a wine and spirit shop suggested Lagavulin. Tried it once and never looked back - like a true convert. It's so smokey it sets off the smoke alarm!

I also had some embarrassing incidents so now I only drink when I'm alone or with other people...

Just back from the pub where I drank a lovely pint call danger hops
My favourite single malt whiskey is cardhu I think but I also have a bit of a liking for cream of the barley if I'mư drinking a grain whisky
Ale and whisky are definately my favourite tipples but too much whisky can turn unicorny into a very silly girl
