http://edition.presstv.ir/TextOnly/d...aspx?id=241141 Northeast Brazil hit by severe drought Mon, 14 May 2012 09:06:36 GMT Brazil is struggling with the worst drought in half a century in the northeastern region, endangering the lives of local people and their livestock. Disastrous weather conditions, affecting over 1,100 towns in the South American nation, have triggered fighting in rural areas. An average of one person a day is being killed during the rural clashes for water. Animals are gradually wasting away due to the shortage of water supplies in the region. The report also said that the farm outputs have been destroyed, leading the Brazilian government to reduce forecast for corn, soy and bean crops. In the state of Pernambuco, 66 municipalities are on water emergencies as lakes and water reservoirs have dried up. The situation has opened room for other abuses as well. For instance, water truck drivers make deliveries, but only if customers promise to vote for certain local candidates. Weather forecasters estimated that the drought would last until October.
