Cool ????????????Shill or Plant???????????????????

Shill or Plant?

I am not sure which you would call it? It goes something like this....

A big internet company, we will call it, "ebay". Has problems with it's members and much discontent among it's sellers cuz sellers are not permitted to leave feedback for a transaction but the buyer can.

ebay opens up a website that appears to be "anti-ebay". The anti ebay website looks like a haven for disgruntled ebay members to vent their frustrations as well as disclosing information not permitted in their user agreement.

But the unsuspecting disgruntled ebay member does not realize when he logs into the anti-ebay site, his email address as well as other personal info are matched up.

A perfect way to cull undesirables.

IMO, many big internet companies do this (possibly for different reasons).

So, would you call this being a, "shill" or "plant" or ??????

You can leave feedback as a seller. Just not feedback with a red mark. Which is admittedly poor but you can write whatever words you like.

I don't really get this one arcy. Ebay allows plenty of poor sellers, just look at many many people's feedback ratings. They don't seem to be bothered about it at all.

I think you are right that they do this. They definitely buy up the domain names that could be used for a negative website such as companynamesucks.com etc. The BBC has done this with TV licensing domains as described on the TV license resistance forum

Fair point.

I admit to not trading on ebay in about 9 months. Things may have changed. Where you really see the discontent is in the discussion forums.

Is that a genuine Ebay site?

My partner found someone on Ebay who was selling CDs in Ebay about how to set up your own cloned Ebay site. This person had her own cloned Ebay site and was promoting them as making thousands of pounds every week.

Despite many emails back and forth with Ebay and UK Trading standards, even months later Ebay have done nothing about this person.

So Ebay did nothing about a seller who is selling CDs with full details of how to set up fake Ebay sites to make/scam thousands of pounds a week.

A good illustration of my point

I see what arcy is saying in general though. Shill or plant? I'd say neither term really describes such an activity. I don't know a term that does

Good point!

The thing to understand about ebay is that it is 100% money oriented.

ebay makes money regardless of if you get scammed or not.
It puts on a show, that pretends to do something about fraud because it's cheaper to pretend to do something to clean up the mess than actually doing it.

This is where the use of shills is so important, to beat down those willing to speak up about the fraud that goes on on ebay.

I can categorically state that I have NEVER made a shill bid on ebay

I have also never ever, not even once inhaled when I've been toking.

I am not doubting your word .

I just don't know how you can be so sure? It is very easy to do and very easy to get by with . And happens all the time.

I paid a $1000 more for a motorcycle than I should have, do to shill bidding. All it takes is 2 or 3 buddies with accounts on ebay who out bid you on the item until the desired price is achieved.

Perhaps he wanted to join the "I'm antifascist and barred from DI forum" forum.

Ebay shitfucks also own paypal, another fucking bunch of crooks.
A friend of mine sold a laptop on Ebay.
2 months later Paypal take the £285 back from him and refund the buyer.
He got the police invovled as he had sent the laptop and the recorded delivery was signed for.
However Paypal still refunded the buyer even though it had been signed for and the police did fuck all.

Fucking scumbags!
