That's old news. Millions of people have royal links either legitimate or illegitimate only they don't know it. If you study history and genealogy it's easy to see how the succeeding generations from someone with royal blood can come down the social scale. As most of the American presidents have come from families with a wealthy background it's not surprising to find royal connections if you go back 4 or 500 years.

That depends on what you mean by lineage. It is correct to say that most of the Presidents appear to have a distant connection to royalty but the descents are all different. That is not surprising since millions of people have a distant connection to royalty and don't know it. Clearly you understand nothing about genealogy and history. Many sons and sometimes daughters of kings married into the aristocracy and because of the english custom of leaving everything to the eldest son, the younger sons and daughters often ended up moving down the social scale because they had no title and probably very little money or land and thus they dropped out of history. If they too had many children their younger children would move even further down the social scale to the gentry and then to the middle class.

My husband was an ordinary man from an ordinary family but my son has been able to trace a legitimate descent from Edward III and an illegitimate descent from Charlemagne. That's not as unusual as people think. If the Presidents came from well off families then the chances of them having a royal descent is practically guaranteed.

Do the maths. If you allow 4 generations per century then the number of your ancestors doubles every generation.By the time you get back to the year 1400 you have 16,777,216 ancestors and so does everyone else. Multiply that figure by everyone of English descent in the UK now and you get a figure in the trillions. But the population of England in 1400 was only 2.5 million so how does it work out? Because people married cousins, second cousins, third cousins and in many cases they married people who were more distantly related so that they weren't aware of the degree of relationship. So every time someone married a person with some of the same ancestors the total number of their ancestors reduces. Everyone alive now is distantly related to everyone else and only a few are lucky enough to be able to track the genealogy down. Everyone of english descent is probably descended from every one of the 2.5 million people who were alive in 1400. The more a population grows the more related the people are.

So it is ignorant to accuse me of being asleep. I am very much awake but I prefer to check facts myself rather than just go on what someone else says about lines of descent.
