Default EMPs in the news...

Quote:
The government must take seriously the threat of a major electro-magnetic pulse event, MPs are warning.

Sudden fluctuations in the magnetic field caused by weather in space or nuclear attack, could wipe out electricity and GPS, used by the military and financial markets.

A Defence Select Committee report said the government appeared "somewhat complacent" about the risks.

MPs are the government.
They know what will happen in the event of a major or even nation sized EMP strike. All electrical equipment will stop working with total anarchy within 48 hours.

The government were advising UK companies to make sure they have systems in place to continue operating in an EMP strike situation.
But it will effect a hell of a lot more than satnavs and computers.

Yes, I was astonished to hear a debate about this on Radio 4's Today programme! Some guy was saying how it could wipe out most of humanity if it occurred. I was a bit surprised it was on this prog, to be honest.

Indeed. I heard that as well - it is what set me off looking for the beeb news article. Here is the interview:

First world nations perhaps but not 'most of humanity'.

There's plenty in the 3rd world who'd notice little difference.

Buy solar equipment to ease things. Stock up on food and have close friends or family set up a meeting point/safe house. I think this is more possible than any "terrorist attack". Although they may say this was caused by terrorists!

That's not strictly true, they might notice the lack of US drones flying over head

the biggest risk is the sun IMO

we are approaching a solar maximum and if anything happens like in the 80's some of those aged nuclear power stations could be in trouble if the circumstances are right

i had a dream over a year ago about this and since then i have been trying to get out what could happen to us all underneath the chemtrail barrier.
what would happen is that from the ionosphere if haarp was used for example, anything between in our atmosphere would be wiped out.

the chemtrails have trapped us and turned our atmosphere into an electronic chamber.
its created a plasma field where we would all be microwaved.
chemtrails need to be banned as i fear thats their plan.

isnt it strange how they say there is a big threat yet they turn their noses up at it and turn the other way?
no defence, no warnings because they are complicit.

Transformers/coils are most at risk.
Plenty of other circuitry too but the above comes immediately to mind first and foremost.

The more stubbornly tinfoil-encrusted part of me wonders if this becoming "newsworthy" is a clandestine alert to all those "on the team" who "have ears to hear"...

Edited to add: incidentally, if an EMP was announced to hit in the near furture, put all precious electrical goods in your microwave, as its shielding works both ways iirc....

Shame the washing machine won't fit in there, or the pc.

good advice thoughkotg, and I do feel you are right to be suspicious.

atlantabizgal you are right I feel, the elite won't have a problem with it.

The whole tower might but, with enough warning, and assuming you microwave is big enough, you should be able to get your hdd's, motherboard (with CPU) and tower power supply in it...

Of course the point becomes redundant if there is nothing to power the device with when you reassemble it, or if your monitor is also fried.

I was thinking of laptops, mobile phones, chargers etc....

If the power is gone for good, this would not make an hapeth of difference, but if it were only knocked out for a couple of months then saving your electric gubbins would save a fortune in replacement costs (and save the pain of lost data). At the very least, put your pc's HDD in).

I have checked..8 be 10 inches won't hold much! (And no, I don't have any battery-operated gadjets I want to put in there )

Laptop is too wide and I don't have a mobile.

what I do have is lots of aluminium foil, I have been saving it up for years to decorate the porch with because I'm slightly eccentric. Will that help to protect electrical equipment?

Are we not ready for anything by now???
