Antiwar Labour MP silenced by Jewish Lobby

As reported by Craig Murray recently, Fox and Werrity had meetings with Britain's Ambassador to Israel, 'proud Zionist' Matthew Gould, most likely plotting to start a war with Iran.

During a select committee session on the Fox-Werrity affair, Paul Flynn MP made some comments about Gould.

Paul Flynn:> I have good reason, as I said, from constituency matters, to be unhappy about the ambassador. Other criticisms have been made about the ambassador; he is unique in some ways in the role he is performing. There have been suggestions that he is too close to a foreign power.

Robert Halfon:> On a point of order, Chair, this is not about the ambassador to Israel. This is supposed to be about the Werritty affair.

Paul Flynn:> It is absolutely crucial to this report. If neo-cons such as yourself, Robert, are plotting a war in Iran, we should know about it.

His fellow Labour MPs then smeared him with accusations of "antisemitism".

A Labour MP has called for "a debate on antisemitism" following another MP's remarks suggesting that the British ambassador to Israel has divided loyalties because he is Jewish.

Denis MacShane, the MP for Rotherham and the author of the book Globalising Hatred. The New Antisemitism, raised the issue during business questions in the House of Commons today.

Leader Ed Miliband's office reported that Mr Miliband "thinks these comments are totally unacceptable".
Mr Flynn's remarks were heavily criticised by the Foreign Office and MPs from across the political spectrum.

Ivan Lewis, the Labour MP and Shadow Secretary for International Development, wrote on Twitter: "Matthew Gould is highly professional diplomat and excellent advocate for UK foreign policy.

"He is proud to be Jewish. [The] smear is appalling."

MP who questioned Jewish envoy's loyalty should 'prepare to retire'

John Mann, the chair of the group on antisemitism, said he was in no doubt "that when candidates are selected for parliamentary constituencies under new boundaries that Paul Flynn will be summarily retired".

Mr Mann, also a Labour MP, added: "I suggest he starts his retirement with a workers' education course on understanding racism, its language and its impact."

Now he's backed down and is not likely to raise the subject again.

The Labour MP Paul Flynn has apologised for questioning the loyalty of the British ambassador to Israel because he is Jewish.

Mr Flynn said: "Clumsily expressed remarks of mine have caused anger and upset.

"I greatly regret the interpretation that has been placed on them and I fully understand why offence was given. Some of the interpretations of these words were exaggerated suggesting malign intent that was never present or intended. Inference was built on inference.

"My friend Robert Halfon absolved me of the charge of antisemitism but said that my remarks could imply an unacceptable prejudice. On reflection, it is clear that Robert's criticism is fair.
