Default Work! Consume! Die!

Anyone read Frankie Boyle's new book, Work! Consume! Die!?

I'm part way through it and while there is a lot of the expected misanthropy there are elements that make you stop and think about the underlying truth of what he is saying, I'm finding it very intelligent in places, though quite dark in others.

I think he make a valid points about how the UK coalition government are handling the current financial situation; raising VAT from 17.5% to 20% is pointless when no one is spending money is one example.

It's also quite topical for a book, including elements about the attack on Libya, though Gaddaffi was still alive when the book was written.

I'm sure he's not to everyone's taste, but it's an interesting read if you're willing to give it a go.

I wouldn't listen to anything that horrible man has to say. Nice original title, too. Not.

It's funny how prudes will get indignant at Frankie Boyle's jokes but will continue to pay taxes that fund wars in which hundreds of thousands of people get blown to shreds in the name of Freedom and Democracy.

It's Frankie Boyle. For that reason alone it is worth avoiding. Noxious little oik.

He does comment on how terrorists haven't attacked mainland US in the 10 years since 9/11 but how the US is still dropping bombs all over the middle east.

Frankie boyle is a top comedian.

It's bit hypocritical though only scottish are allowed say what he says as they cant be racist. But if frankies material was read out by a English guy it would be banned in 2 seconds.

Perhaps that is why Frankie is so famous..Maybe Jimmy gave film-makers an offer they could not refuse. I have not studied his life at-all but i would not be surprised if he was introduced into show-buisness by Irvine Welsh. Irvine is known to keep controversial company

Just been to Frankie Boyle's website and there are extracts published, below is an extract of an extract!

http://www.frankieboyle.com/workconsumedieextracts.html

Quote:
One of the things we heard during the global financial crisis was that nobody could have foreseen this. Everyone was queuing up to tell us how unexpected this was. But that’s just the view from their reality tunnel. Remember those antiglobalisation riots? Weren’t they saying that the global financial system was unsustainable? As Slavoj Žižek points out in First As Tragedy, Then As Farce, in Seattle 14,000 extra cops were drafted in to deal with the sheer number of people saying that the international financial system was unstable. That’s more troops than we sent to Iraq. So, while we are told that nobody could have foreseen the dangers, if we were trying to quantify how many people were actually predicting the collapse, it would be fair to say that there was an army of them.

Let’s not forget that with environmental disaster, profiteering on commodity prices, the risks we take with the food chain, and mobile-phone masts springing up everywhere, it’s a lot more likely that you’ll be killed by a bank or a big corporation than by Al-Qaeda. What we call Al-Qaeda set itself up as an operation that individuals would come to with terror plans and bin Laden would decide whether or not to invest. It’s interesting that if you want to create worldwide chaos and perpetrate widespread evil, the ideal model is that of a venture capital firm. It seems to me that the world financial system is now geared towards privatisation. Countries borrow money and the price for keeping the rate of interest down is to privatise stuff. Who do we borrow the money from? Hedge funds, bankers, speculators. Why do they want us to privatise? Because it opens up areas of enormous profit for them. You can choose not to drink Coca-Cola but you can’t not educate your kids. You can’t not go to the hospital when you’re sick. You can’t not drink water.

Look on the upside for a moment. The world is being destroyed by corporate interests but we’re just at that point in the horror movie before we work out how to kill the monsters. Of course things look bleak now, but ask yourself this – how do you kill a corporation? One of us will work it out! And what then? What if we win? I mean it, have you thought about what the world could be like if people took control of their own reality? We can forget about war. We can evolve, we can explore the stars and we can focus on hating the people who really deserve it - our f*cking parents.

Who are you referring to? Prove either that I'm a prude or pay taxes. Or stfu.

Actually, go and educate yourself and learn the origin of the word. And then find another insult, loser. You don't know anything about me, go crawl up Boyle's arse.

Unsubbing. Apologists make me vomit.

I haven't seen any of the programmes Frankie Boyle is on as I rarely watch TV, but I've seen a few clips of him and I thought he was pretty funny. He certainly seemed to be the only person I've seen in ages that doesn't want to do jokes about how Mars bars are smaller than they used to be, just boring, trite, comfortable observational humour. He mentioned Chomsky in an interview I read and he's obviously politically aware. I would take him all day over Michael McIntyre or pretty much anyone else that I've seen on TV recently.
