Default Stone Roses 'to tour'

If this is true I hope they find a way of stopping the touts getting all the tickets.

http://menmedia.co.uk/manchestereven...tour-next-week

One of the most eagerly-anticipated reunions in rock music looks to be on the cards after rumours grew that the Stone Roses are getting back together.

The Mancunian band, who fell apart in 1996 after legal wrangles and internal rows, are expected to announce a comeback tour at a press conference on Tuesday.

Their self-titled first album, released in 1989, is widely seen as one of the greatest debuts of all time.

Invitations have been sent out to journalists for "a special press conference for a very important announcement" at a London hotel on Tuesday.

A spokesman for Murray Chalmers PR, which is handling the event, declined to comment on the nature of the press conference.

Guitarist John Squire quit in 1995 and although the band limped on with a replacement, the group split after a disastrous performance at Reading Festival in 1996.

Singer Ian Brown enjoyed some success as a solo star, bass player Mani joined Primal Scream and Squire charted with his band The Seahorses before pursuing an art career.

The band's drummer Reni has slipped out of the limelight since the band ended.

Squire, whose distinctive artwork graced many of their record covers, has regularly refuted suggestions they might reform.

He once created a metallic artwork decorated with the phrase "I have no desire whatsoever to desecrate the grave of seminal Manchester pop group The Stone Roses" and displayed it on his website.

"I'd rather live my life than attempt to rehash it," he said later. "Even if Ian and I were still double dating as we did in our teens then the prospect of a reunion wouldn't interest me at all.

This should never happen....don't destroy the myth.

They don't need to reform...no need...leave it be..

Not the Roses..no...lost respect if this happens....

I feel the same about The Specials.....I saw them twice in their heyday and haven't had the urge to attend their reunion shows. I'm not against reunions but I'd like to see the bands in question do new material as well, rather than playing it safe. That can even help to change the current music scene.

But from a friendship and financial point of view, I say 'why not' to a Stone Roses reunion?

It's a good album, but one of the greatest studio-polishings of all time.

You didn't miss much. It was a dour and depressing performance.

Best reunion I've been to was Madstock.... But it was from a band who've still got a bit of energy left to burn.....Worst one ever was The Sex Pistols. Fat gits counting the cash. I've seen Ian Brown's solo shows and it was pretty darn good.....

I don't know about a Stone Roses reunion..... If it's going to happen then I don't want to see tired fat and lazy pop stars moping around counting the cash, I want to see four guys BUZZING off the music and enjoying themselves.

This is what was so absent from the Specials reunion and why it was so NOT special.

Pretty much what I expected, unfortunately. About 18 months I saw a recent Specials performance on Youtube. I had to stop watching. That's the first time I've experienced that from listening to them, there was just no edge.

Madstock was an amazing event, I wasn't there but that comes across in the dvd so well. Madness have got the edge on The Specials now, they just sound more together, in some intangible way.

I hope The Stone Roses do some great gigs and I'm glad that Ian Brown and John Squire have buried the hatchet.

I've seen Jerry Dammers' Spatial AKA stuff, it's awesome.... It's like imagine if the Specials had kept going and evolved and changed with the times.

Yes, the Spatials have some excellent material, possibly too 'out there' to accomodate the Specials' ska/pop sound and image...but Dammers still wants to grow and I respect that. I think The Specials up until Ghost Town was probably one stage in his development, in hindsight.

Did you hear his Radio 6 music show -fill in- he did for Jarvis Cocker?

An awesome broadcast and some fantastic and obscure old school ska was played. If you didn't hear by hook or by crook you must endeavor to do so.

Who would you like to see for support? Gotta be a Manchester band.

Personally a big fan of James... they can still put on a decent show too.

At one of the Premiership grounds they play 'All sit down' just prior to the match. Caught it on Match of the Day, don't know which ground though. Cracked me up.

That'd suck. I remember when Chemical Brothers supported the Manic Street Preachers way back... people were booing they were so bored.....

Nothing more boring at a gig than standing and listening to DJ's for hours on end.

If they don't get a load of decent Manchester bands in for a mini-madchester festival then it'll be a missed opportunity I reckon.

Half an hour of John Cooper Clark would do me.

I did catch the last half hour, it was very good indeed. I'm sure it's just a Google away.
