Default The Strange Mural of the UN Security Council

Have we done this one yet?

What's all that about?

According to the UN website:

Quote:
A central feature of the Security Council Chamber is the oil canvas mural painted by the Norwegian artist Per Krogh. It depicts a phoenix rising from its ashes, as a symbol of the world being rebuilt after the Second World War. Above the dark sinister colours at the bottom different images in bright colours symbolizing the hope for a better future are depicted. Equality is symbolized by a group of people weighing out grain for all to share.

The blue and gold silk tapestry on the walls and in the draperies by the East River windows features the anchor of faith, the growing wheat of hope, and the heart of charity.

Weird. I feel like I've seen that recently.

Is that a lizard with a sword(bottom center)?

Looks like an alligator stabbing itself with a sword!

Could they possibly have fitted in a few more details for symbology buffs to pore over?

It makes a cool little demon if you mirror the left-hand side:

Seems to be. Officially it would probably be something to do with the triumph of science and rationalism over ignorance and superstition, I imagine...

I posted the wrong image there, but have fixed it now. The mirrored version is up above.

It looks like some sort of hybrid: four legged animal with long neck from which 2 arms reach out and hold onto the legs of some table, the dragon-like head biting into a sword that impales the neck and the body.

Aahh, isn't that nice.

That description is as confusing as the image so it's probably right!
