I haven't seen this one in the news section yet. Did I miss it somewhere?
I am surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet. After all, they are saying that this is just another part of a western plot to undermine muslims.

For those that don't know: A middle aged British teacher was arrested, found guilty and sentenced to 15 days gaol, in Sudan, for naming a class mascot teddy bear, Mohamed.

Despite the fact that it was the 7 year old pupils who voted to name the bear after one of their classmates, she was still found guilty of some obscure reigious offence.

Apparently, had she been wearing trousers (pants) at the time, this would have become an automatic death penalty sentence.

That said, the law is the law and 'When-in-Rome' etc. But now there are demonstrations in the Sudanese capital, demanding that this teacher be beheaded for her 'crime!'

Until very recently in the UK, it was perfectly within the law of freedom of speech, for religious fanatics to publicly incite hatred against the west and even to encourage murder and terrorist acts against the 'Infidels.'

Thankfully, new laws have allowed for non British citizens to be deported for this behaviour and it has become a criminal offence to incite religious hatred. Punishment will vary between a 'telling off' and imprisonment for very serious offences.

Apart from that, non-native (and native) religous groups are perfectly entitled to deride, belittle and generally say anything they please about western (or other) religions, with impunity. And that is as it should be.

But...

When British citizens are afraid to fly their own flag, for fear of being branded 'racist' against ethnic or religious minorities, but a British 'Aid worker' teacher can be imprisoned for inocently giving a teddy bear a common name... there is a serious imbalance going on somewhere.
