You think more words than you speak – perhaps because language really does shape the way we navigate the world

THERE I go again, talking to myself. Wherever I am, and whatever I'm doing, words bounce around my head in an incessant chatter. I am not alone in my internal babbling. Measuring the contents of people's minds is difficult, but it seems that up to 80 per cent of our mental experiences are verbal. Indeed, the extent of our interior monologue may vastly exceed the number of words we speak out loud. "On average, 70 per cent of our total verbal experience is in our head," estimates Lera Boroditsky of Stanford University in California. The sheer volume of unspoken words would suggest that language is more than just a tool for communicating with others. But what else could it be for?

One answer to that question is emerging: language helps us to think and perceive the world. Boroditsky and other researchers are finding that words bring a smorgasbord of benefits to human cognition, from abstract thinking to sensory perception. These effects may even explain why language evolved in the first place.

The idea that language guides human thinking and shapes perception has a long and turbulent history. Philosophers have toyed with it for centuries, but its reputation became tarnished before modern psychologists could begin putting flesh on its bones.

This fall from grace can be traced to the demise of a controversial hypothesis known as "linguistic relativity", put forward in the first half of the last century by Edward Sapir at Yale University and his student Benjamin Whorf. They suggested that if language really is fundamental to the way we think, then speakers of different languages should experience the world in very different ways.

Initially, the evidence for the so-called Whorfian hypothesis looked promising, with one study suggesting that Zuni Native Americans, who use the same word for yellow and orange, have more difficulty remembering whether an object is yellow or orange than English speakers. But the idea hit a brick wall in 1972 when Eleanor Rosch, now at the University of California, Berkeley, tested the principle on the Dani people of New Guinea, who have just two colour terms: light and dark. Despite this, they differentiated and remembered the hues of different objects just as effectively as English speakers (Journal of Experimental Psychology, vol 93, p 10).

Around this time, Noam Chomsky's theory that all languages are fundamentally the same and hard-wired in a specialist part of the brain was gaining popularity, and this seemed incompatible with the idea that words could shape the way people think. Whorf's hypothesis fell out of favour and researchers became wary of exploring whether language evolved to shape our cognition.

Recently, however, the idea has made a comeback. Studies in the late 1990s indicated that infants are better able to group objects into categories - animals versus vehicles, say - if they have already learned the category names. And research published in 2005 by Dedre Gentner at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, suggested that the spatial reasoning of young children is improved by reminding them of words such as "top", "middle" and "bottom" (Cognitive Psychology, vol 50, p 315). Meanwhile, a few studies have described how people who lost their language skills following a stroke have struggled with tasks such as grouping and categorising objects.

Such findings suggest that language does indeed have benefits beyond communication, for children at least. But is this also true for healthy adults?

Twelve volunteers, ages 36 to 58, with advanced-stage cancer and anxiety were given a moderate dose of 0.2 mg/kg of psilocybin and, on a separate occasion, a placebo. Neither the volunteers nor the researchers monitoring them knew whether they'd been given a placebo or psilocybin.

Kalmyk president Kirsan Ilyumzhinov is ready to make contact with outer space once he leaves office next month.

The long-serving leader of the south-western republic has repeatedly claimed to have met aliens – and he wants to see Russia create a center for UFOlogy to help explore what happened to him.

“In many countries that I visit there are laboratories that investigate UFOs and make contact,” he told journalists at a press conference in Elista. He did not specify anywhere. He added that he had talked about extraterrestrial civilizations with foreign dignatories, including heads of state gzt.ru reported.

It’s not the first time he’s discussed his fascination with other worlds. In May he drew fire from State Duma deputy Andrei Lebedev after he gave an interview on TV about a visit he had received from aliens in 1997. “I believe I communicated with them, I saw them. I probably would not have believed it, but there were three witnesses: my driver, the Minister and my assistant,” he told TV presenter Vladimir Pozner. He described the visitors as “men in yellow suits” who arrived on his balcony in a “translucent tube.

Lebedev thought that Ilyumzhinov might have something to hide and feared that national security might have been breached if Ilyumzhinov had passed any “sensitive information” to the extraterrestrials.

This vid was made by a few Croatian guys I had the pleasure of working with in Visoko a couple weeks ago..

The place is called Daorson and is suspected as being the real Troy.
Bosnia nor Serbia have any archaeological experteise and rely on the European Union and its archaeological societies to carry out work, though no work is being done.

Everything in Bosnia which does not fit in with the worlds current understanding of history gets called medieval.

The Bosnian Government restricts digging on the Pyramids by claiming it is a medieval site and is therefore protected under law. All ancient artifacts found are described as being medieval.

The local Museum in Visoko, from which outside you can see the Sun Pyramid towering over, claims there are no Pyramids in Bosnia.

While ancient greek and roman pottery is left on the surface uncared for, it shows the establishment has no interest in cataloging these finds and preserving them.
This site is far more valuable to the establishment if it were to remain largely unknown.
They do not want anyone looking closely at this location one bit for if they do, it will become apparent that it is not medieval at all!

DAORSON CITY- FALSE INTERPRETATIONS UP TO THE PRESENT

It is hard to find such a rich, historical place on this planet, and the mystery of this place is right here before us. Going through the city of Stolac, one can witness that major historical events took place in this area. Daorson is located above Stolac and Radimlje is located below it. There is something that a person can sense at the moment when stepping into this ancient stone city. The official history says that Daorson was (Greek ΔΑΟΡΣΩΝ) the capital of the Hellenized Illyrian tribe, Daors, that lived from 300 to 50 B.C. in the Valley of Neretva. It was built 2500 years ago. The only truth about this place is the fact that it is located near the River Neretva. The megalithic blocks, which weigh several tons, are beautifully carved and placed with great precision, which is still a mystery to many masons today. There is no connecting material between the blocks; there are carved, and the concrete may have been poured on the site, having more than 4 expected angles. Needless to say, such blocks are also found in Machu Picchu, Peru.

The mystery of these blocks is the fact that they are resistant to earthquakes, which were also found in the areas of B&H.

The statements of some scientist who claimed that Daorson was built by some tribes are more than ridiculous. One needs to ask oneself if the tribes were capable of building such a great city that is made of the stone blocks weighing in tons. Did such a tribe have a social structure and ability to drag megalithic blocks throughout the rocky soils of Herzegovina for many kilometers from the quarry stone pit and to insert them into the giant walls of the city? Speaking about the walls, we need to ask ourselves why certain places are five meters wide because for defense purposes, the walls had to be no more than half a meter thick. In addition to this, Daorson is placed on the elevation with the fantastic view below it, and it was not accessible to its possible enemies. Therefore, the defense was an easy job even without such thick walls. The question is, “Was Daorson city really what the official science is saying it is?


Furthermore, the experts claim that the city used to consist of three parts with the fortress being in the middle of it. They further state that this fortress was surrounded by giant walls which were made of the great stone blocks (which are similar to those in Mikena, Greece).

All the religious and governing institutions were placed within this fortress. The defense wall that touches from the Southwest towards the Northeast was 65 meters long, 4.2 meters wide. Its approximate height was about 4.5 to 7.5 meters and it had a gate with towers on each side. It is obvious that the defense wall had a gate but it is also obvious that the gate was built by the civilizations that inhabited this area later on (The Greeks). This fact is very obvious and our society tends to put everything within the time frame that is most popular. The administrative, religious, and public centers are also mentioned but nothing is left of them. It is unclear how they concluded that objects with such purposes really existed there. Are we supposed to make conclusions based on a few old coins? Or are we going by our old good custom sayings, “Pile all the stone blocks under the nice, Bosnian carpet?”

The representatives of the Troy Association and many lovers of this city told us the story about the geo-radar analysis that took place and confirmed the existence of a much older city that is located below the city of Daorson. This entire city was built on top of the remains of a much older preexisting construction. The construction was initially dated 2500 years ago but recently, it has been changed to 3700 B.C. Should we be mentioning the names of some made up tribe or should we change our attitude on how we interpret things? Should we rather try to figure out who built the city and what was its purpose?

its not just Costa Rica with these stone spheres as was once believed.

There have been many spheres uncovered so far dotted all around Bosnia, with many still buried.
They come in different sizes, some higher quality than others and are made from an assortment of materials. Granites, basalts, calcareous rocks but also some have been poured and molded rather than carved. There are some very similar compositions to what is found around the pyramid sites.

On a July 4, 2008 CNN interview, Dr Mitchell confirmed Greer’s version of events when he said that Admiral Wilson,“had found the people responsible for the cover-up and for the people who were in the know and were told, I'm sorry, admiral, you do not have need to know here and so, goodbye.”

I don't know if anyone else noticed that those two spheres, there's a face in both of them that's almost identical.

Sorry if it's off-topic, but I often look at pics and can pick out clear shapes. It was the same with the Bohemian Grove pics posted here not that long ago (but have not yet posted in that thread) but again there was a pic that was so clear of a larger figure looming over the person in the pic. Very eery.

I also noticed the face, predominately in the first posted pic. I would be interested in finding out the composition of it. The way the top layer is cracking off seems interesting and different then other pics of stone spheres that Ive seen. Really Old age???

In the near future, maybe everything we need will be assembled on the spot in machines like Star Trek's replicators, but for now, we'll have to settle for growing cups, plates, and packing material from food.

A few inventors are working on products that use mushrooms, rice husks, and even agar to create new versions of single-use disposable items. They're less harmful to the environment and break down into nothing.

Ecovative's rice-and-mushroom packaging, for example, is intended to replace Styrofoam and uses an eighth of the energy required to make a similar amount of the petroleum-based stuff. And product design consultancy The Way We See The World is working to bring edible drinking glasses made of flavored agar--similar to gelatin--to the consumer market.

Yes, cups from corn and the like have been around for years, but those products have their own problems. Products made from polylactide (PLA)--which can be derived from corn, beets, potatoes or wheat--can't be recycled with the far more common polyethylene terephthalate (PET) used in soda bottles, and claims that the plastic biodegrades may have been greatly exaggerated. Could a gelatinous tumbler be any different?

For one, the feel is totally different, says Chelsea Briganti, one quarter of The Way We See The World. "It's slightly rubbery, very soft," she says. And no, the "Jelloware," (a term coined by The Way We See The World) made of agar and flavored to complement whatever you're drinking, doesn't get sticky.

The group is working with manufacturers right now to try to bring the cups to market. They're also exploring a heat-tolerant version--right now "Jelloware" can only be used for cold drinks. Either way, when you're done, you can take a bite out of the glass or chuck it to the earth, where it will decompose within a week.

Also in the same article is a product that uses agricultural waste as a replacement for Styrofoam. I am not concerned with "energy consumption angle" (because its not important in the long run IMO, we need real change from the top with free energy tech), but, Its serves as an alternative to using plastics. If only we can start growing hemp and build other products naturally.

Another product made from food--sort of--is Ecovative's EcoCradle, which is composed of rice husks and fungal mycelium--more or less mushroom roots, explains company founder Gavin McIntyre. His company fills a mold with agricultural waste, like rice husks or cotton gin discards, adds mycelia, and within two weeks the roots have grown to form a dense, lightweight network stronger than styrofoam and ultimately compostable, says McIntyre.

Currently the process, which Ecovative says takes 1/8th the energy to produce than traditional foam, requires steam-pasteurization and takes place in a cleanroom. This prevents other, less useful mold spores from contaminating the product. A VERY EXCITING TIME

Before we get to the new words from 'Management', I have some great news. This is one significant part of why I've been so unusually preoccupied and busy these last few months.

After a long and intense process, I am very happy to announce that we now have a finished first draft of the CONVERGENCE movie script -- and it is fantastic!

I've been extremely fortunate to have Jim Hart and his partner Amanda Welles writing this script for our grassroots-funded company, Convergence Pictures LLC -- with my direct supervision, support and oversight.

Jim sat with Carl Sagan for two years to develop the screenplay for CONTACT. The movie THE LAST MIMZY was also co-opted from an earlier script Jim wrote, originally titled "MIM-Z", but was significantly different than the original.

I mentioned both of these films back-to-back in my 2012 Enigma documentary as having an intense Disclosure message, having no idea they were written by the same person. That synchronicity is what actually attracted Jim to this project in the first place!

Jim also wrote Hook for Steven Spielberg, Bram Stoker's Dracula for Francis Ford Coppola, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life, which featured Angelina Jolie, Muppets Treasure Island, Tuck Everlasting, Sahara and the uplifting August Rush.


OPENING TO THE POWER OF MANIFESTATION


I was blown away when I read the script. After all this time -- developing this film since 2005 -- it is only five and a half years later that we now have a truly impressive script, from one of the top screenwriters in the industry!

In earlier drafts of CONVERGENCE I wrote myself, I invariably patterned the female lead character after Jodie Foster in CONTACT.

It truly shows how impressive synchronicity can be when I ended up having the man who created that character for film -- arguably the single best, most qualified writer in the world -- come to this project!

There are truly no limits once you open yourself up to the true powers of spiritual manifestation, and are willing to work with ceaseless dedication on your ultimate goals.

Furthermore, Jim's usual turnaround time on a script write is 3-4 months -- but in this case, due to a few key factors, we've been developing the core elements of this script in some form since April 2009.

With a writer of Jim's caliber, this is a very unusual situation -- and it also means the script has that much more 'sizzle', forethought and development than most.

I do feel all of this has happened for a reason -- and now that I have seen the proof, in black and white, I can say that all the sorrows and struggles of the last five and a half years have been well worth the effort.

We are now in the midst of our first major rewrite -- what I call "the big science pass." This has taken a great deal of time and energy, not to mention soul-searching, to perform.


GETTING ALL THE DETAILS RIGHT


Jim and Amanda's script was the result of intense, detailed planning of the story and characters for well over a year before the first pages were ever even written.

I was heavily involved in this process every step of the way. The entire story has been carefully designed to create the best-possible delivery vehicle for my scientific breakthroughs to reach a mass audience.

We've also set it up to be a franchise -- where the subjects explored in the first film can easily transition into sequels where the cosmic scope of what we address can be literally unprecedented in Hollywood.

By continuing to work with independent financing, we can use this medium to spread the truth -- instead of the same rehashed nonsense that has been passing for entertainment so often.

Jim has also poured a great deal of heart and soul into this project -- including bringing in thematic elements that are very near and dear to his heart, which he's been wanting to write about for many years. (I cannot go into detail about them at this time due to the need for confidentiality to protect the script at this stage.)

I still have a lot of pressure on my shoulders at the moment, because now that we have a finished first draft, I'm very intricately involved in re-tooling it with all the most advanced breakthroughs I've come up with in my work on the new book.

Many of these breakthroughs didn't even come about until June and July, as I went into the final stages of finishing the manuscript. So, it seemed like everything happened in the proper time and place, following a greater schedule I was not consciously aware of.


MORE ON THE WAY


In the midst of all this, and other stunning developments I can't talk about yet, I got contacted by Coast to do a show -- and our transcribers have now finished their part of that process.

It's a huge, huge document and it will probably be the next major post to this site that gets made. It is a lot of work to get these shows posted once the transcription is finished.

I have had an extremely powerful set of opportunities show up and they have required my full attention. I look forward to getting these deadlines cleared so my life can calm down again!

I thank you for the many, many letters of support and encouragement as I've been working through all these challenges. Even the hate mail is really just love in disguise -- I feel bad because you guys have been missing new material from me you can hate about.

Solar-Powered Purifier Gives Clean Water for Disaster Relief

A new water purifier can produce more than 8,000 gallons of virus-free drinking water per day without fuel or a generator and runs completely on solar or wind power.

The Solar Container is designed for use in disaster stricken areas where conventional energy sources are often too expensive or completely unavailable.

Manufacturers of the purifier say that it can help eliminate the spread of water transmitted diseases, provide farmers with desalinated water, and reduce logistical planning of relief efforts. The device can also produce enough excess energy to charge communication equipment.

Many disaster relief organizations—such as USAID, CARE, and the United Nations—have reported that it is often a struggle to provide victims with enough clean drinking water. In Pakistan, for example, last month’s flood forced relief workers to either transport clean water in trucks over rough roads or treat contaminated flood water with single-use water purification tablets.

Similarly, many Haitian residents still recovering from the country’s massive earthquake earlier this year still rely on temporary aboveground pipes for drinking water. Unfortunately, these pipes often rupture, leaving disaster victims without a reliable source of clean, disease-free water.

The Solar Container provides relief efforts with a more reliable solution. Through a series of filters and eight reverse osmosis membranes, the device can utilize saltwater and effectively remove large matter, bacteria, viruses, salts, and even dangerous chemicals.

Since it runs completely on renewable solar and wind power, the Solar Container eliminates the need for follow-up logistical attention that is often required for many generator- or fuel-powered devices.

The product is a joint venture between Spectra Watermakers—a California-based reverse osmosis company—and Swiss manufacturer, Trunz Water Systems. They say the Solar Container meets FEMA requirements as outlined in the agency’s Operational Requirements Document from April 2009.

The Solar Container makes clean water available virtually anywhere and is designed to work in any environment. The filtering equipment is installed in a sealed, lockable, air-conditioned chamber that allows it to withstand even the harshest desert conditions.
