Lightbulb Power of positive vibrations & self healing

I recently went through a phase (2007-2009) in my life where i questioned religion (Thanks to religulous film by bill mhar) and started to think for myself. I did not completely leave religion until march 2010 where by i officially became an atheist. The strange thing about this is that as soon as i left religion my energy came back (people says i glow) and more happy and more good luck things are happening to me as a result.

Now the really strange thing is that my own family are starting to murmur about religion and how it is used to do evil things. Never in our 20 year relationship did my family question religion only until recently. These are people who would turn up to holy day without fail. but as soon as i left the faith, this sudden bounce in energy and my mother tells me i am different some how. I know longer suffer from depression or bad thoughts. As a result my family are feeling better...but i don't know why. To me it seems that once i stop feeding GOD with pray my soul energy has improved but at the same time my family feel better mentally. It feels like a huge vortex has been shut down and now i can heal...but my family is also getting the benefit of this as well. My mother is recovering from a 20 year marriage that failed in 2004, but until recently she did not feel hopeful.

BTW i never told my parents i left religion as my path is different to theirs.

glad to hear it

worshipping God seems to be an oxymoron, why would you worship something that is you...we are part of God, it's like worshipping ourselves...the problem with religion is they believe they are somehow sinful, unworthy creature and God is this all powerful separate being and they need to be redeemed...it doesn't work like that. religion is full of bullshit, but it does contain alot of truths, but very manipulated and distorted. i grew up in the church, but i never bought into it..even though i was forced to go, i couldn't understand the fuss, it seemed like such a weak and pathetic, victimized ritual to me, like people refusing to see how awesome they are, believing God to be this entity they need to bow down and worship, just an excuse to be lazy and not take responsibility for the reality they create for themselves with their thinking, blaming everything on "the devil", it's perfect for "victims"...ridiculous.

I think religion has been with us for so long that we can't imagine a world without it. I currently reading Zen Buddha & the ego.

Also when you look back is your family still in religion and worshiping a sadistic GOD?

Maybe what you found liberating was the dropping of some un-needed baggage? So, it is asked, "Why pick up the baggage 'atheist' now?"

Seems that 'atheism' has as much potential baggage as '... insert religion here'... and not much of anything positive may be the result.

IE one drops "religion" and picks up "atheism" but atheism implies something about religion. When one drops somethng, even religion or "God".. then drop it. It doesn't exist,, and giving a name to the non-existant only reinforces the idea.

which is why i have taken up Buddhist philosophy.

BTW the reason why atheist go on about religion is because they can't understand why one would believe in someone that does not exist.

I am glad i have broken free from those chains, now i can free to seek knowledge.

I studied Zen Buddhism for 5 years at a Center. Not once did I hear the word "atheist" applied. -- but I did hear on a couple of occations, "This is not a religion".

Of course, the concept of God has no real place in Buddhism. That is Ok. It seems the Buddha's teachings are founded on what is beyond concept anyway (Heart Sutra), which works good for the practical side. One does not h ave to busy himself with ideas, and is free to search for knowledge first hand.
