After more than 35 years in prison, one of three men who kidnapped a busload of California schoolchildren in a ransom attempt has been released.

Richard Schoenfeld, 57, was freed on Wednesday after serving time for his role in the 1976 abduction of 26 schoolchildren and their bus driver, Frank Edward Ray, in Chowchilla, California.

He was 22 years old at the time of the crime.

After stripping naked, Eugene attacked Ronald Poppo on a causeway in May.

Toxicology results found no alcohol, prescription drugs or adulterants often mixed with street drugs in his body.

An outside forensic toxicology lab also looked at the results and came up negative for bath salts, synthetic marijuana and LSD.
