Default Broken nose/deviated septum anyone?

After my cat diving in front of me and trying to kill me on the stairs last week, my nose has not been the same. Obviously, if I'm to return to work any time soon I need my nose to sing, but I can't get any air through one nostril. Seems my septum's moved, and there's a bump on the opposite side of the bridge and on the front. My tip has completely changed shape too, but I initially thought this was all just swelling and I hadn't done any damage. How wrong am I!

Has anyone had this fixed and did it hurt/how long was recovery/will they shave off the bump, too? Worst thing is, I had my grandad's nose and if surgery makes it different (it's already looking different) I'll be sad.

I had the same injury many years ago, when I was a youngster. Left hand nostril completely blocked, and a sharp bumb on the left hand side, and the tip pointing to the right. Hospital stay for about 5 days then. And you,d never know there was any injury.

I,d say its a quicker deal now though. Although with a battlescar like that, no one will mess with you

Hope you get it sorted, and its not too sore.....

sorry to hear that.
i have a roman nose.
roman all over me face.

my septum now blocks half of one nostril.
i broke it in fights, falling off bikes, and most recently with a bungie cord....that fookin hurt i tell thee
i've never got mine fixed coz a) i don't have to look at it and b) i don't need it for singing.
plus i'm a bit of a shit bag when it comes to operations.

a week might be too early to tell yet.... but no one knows you like you do.

hope you sort it out.

Hi armoured_amazon,
I got an operation last year for a deviated setpum (my tip had collapsed and I could only breathe through one nostril). Years of boxing had taken its toll!
Anyway it wasnt painful at all, just uncomfortable. Botht of my nostrils had been packed after the op so I was unable to breathe through either for a week. There was also a bit of selling under both eyes but that's about it. Once the cast came off my nose was pretty swollen, it actually took a good 6 months for the swelling to . apart from that all was ok

Thanks, guys!

*falling about laughing at 'roman all over my face'*

Are the bumps on the front and side caused by the septum deviating, or does that require rhinoplasty, and if so, will they fix that in the same operation, or is it classed as cosmetic? The weirdest thing is that it didn't bleed much when I banged it, no more than a few drops, so I just assumed it was swelling, but it's been a week now, and it's not looking good. Thank goodness for Mac cosmetics!

Wait a minute, gazap, did you say CAST? I thought they'd just throw a few stitches up there! Or did you have your nose reset, too?

Someone's panicking me about my voice changing after surgery, but tbh, I have to take the risk, rather than have one closed nostril. Omg, I'm so depressed *sob*

I know how you feel because I am a violinist (over 30 years) and I had my right wrist broken (nasty story). Complications meant I needed a pin inserted and there was a chance of some loss of flexibiltiy (which fro the bow hand is about as crippling to your tone as you can get).

After physio I made a full recovery after about 6 months but I had not to lift anything heavier tahtn a can of coke all that time.

Happy ending now thouh, even though the pin is still in there (perhaps it's a chipjk)

My only advice would be to not "borrow trouble" by dwelling on what might happen. Focus all your attention on how it will all be better soon.

Do something about it immediately: not only will you recover sooner, but it will make you feel better emotionally.

If you find you are gripped with anxiety, meditate, pray, read or listen to soothing music (Eric Satie and Fauret do it for me).

Don't touch it or examine it in the mirror constantly and NEVER listen to that voice spouting doom and tragedy, be it internal or somebody else.

And above all cry if you need to, preferrably on a friends shoulder.

sincerest well wishing from me.

You're right, I'm going to read your post whenever I start freaking, hehe. Violinist? Me, too! In fact, if I hadn't pursued a stupid singing career, I'd be playing in an orchestra now. I think it's too late for me now; they seem to hire fresh from the conservatoire.

Violinist too! Wow you are one talented person!

I though I might post a few pieces that calmed me down (and still do) and drove away the anxiety.

Dont be depressed babe everything will be fine.
I used to do boxing training and did damage mine. It is a simple operation to fix it and everything will be fine if not better.
I would imagine a singer needs clear nasal tubes so definately get it done.

Soz to hear about that. I'd get the surgery. You'll be fine. I'll say that rather than 'don't worry', cos the mind doesn't hear "don't".

Stevie Wonder still has his mojo working and he was in a horrendous car accident back in the 70s.

And he wrote this one when he recovered.

I hope you'll get well soon. No experience with a broken nose I'm afraid.

Thanks, guys

Listening to the video links now to chill. Couldn't get a doc appt today, but they have open surgery tomorrow. I'm hoping it's not as bad as I thought, as my nostril seems to have opened up a bit, so I'm praying it's just internal swelling that messed my snout up! I guess I can live with the bumps...until I can afford to get it fixed and lifted again lol. I'll see what the doc says tomorrow x

Maybe your cat tried telling you something by breaking your nose. Did you sign the record deal with the big bad company like your band wanted?
