Published on Jun 19, 2012 by lunarmodule5 Footage of the 1st Apollo 15 EVA - Shows a looped recording of a CBS simulation of what the astronauts were supposedly doing at the time. The simulated footage is shown several times while the actual crew were configuring the Lunar Rover and it's TV. It will be interesting to see if people remember watching the coverage like this.

You'd have to transmit 'live' images from a TV screen to attain "The Real Thing"
60's/70's tech crap.

These simulations were common, particularly in the early missions when live TV broadcasts were infrequent. Mission audio would be played and either animations or simulations were provided so viewers could see what was happening. As the mission timelines were very precisely worked out, it wasn't difficult for the media to work out what they should be seeing.
As should be obvious to anyone with eyes, the simulations and animations are nothing like the actual events in terms of the way gravity affects things, or in the poorly visualised sets and special effects. This youtube channel has most of the US network TV coverage, and you can see how often those simulations occur. |
