Default London Plague

i was watching a video that stuck an interesting convo with me and a friend. at the end of the plague in london what was right at the end of it? London's great fire..... as John Harris says "what do we do with disease? we burn it" my friend said "the was storys of lights in the skys around the time of the plague and a mist followed soon after. this should start a VERY interesting thread...

yes the heavy mist or miasma that the people believed caused the plague were in numerous recoded accounts
one of the theories about these accounts can be found in a book called The Gods of Eden by Willian Bramley

For others, the book has been scanned and is online but grab it while you can because it's frequently deleted:

The Plauge Doctors

Mask 1

Mask and Hat

These macarbe masks were used from about the 1600s.
The beak would have been hollow (although some wern't) and was stuffed, with herbs to help clean the miasma (bad air) which was belived to carry the disease.

A leather coat (or coat treated with oils) and thick gloves were woren, in order to try and protect the doctor.
Preventing the plauge making contact with the skin, from (fleas) while treating people and walking the plauge infested streets.

They also wore belts with all sorts of weird things attached to them, they also belived these charms and trinkets would protect the wearer.

They were thought upon as doctors, but the medicnes available at the time were, usless

Their main role was to confirm people were dead, and to dispose of the body's.

Full outfit

Do you remember the title of the video? I'd love to see it.

...Plague`s could come in many forms!

Quote:
PHILADELPHIA -- The following statement was released today by W. Michael McCabe, Regional Administrator, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency:

Before there was an Environmental Protection Agency, before there was an Earth Day, before Rachel Carson wrote "Silent Spring," there was Donora.

Donora is a small industrial town south of Pittsburgh which experienced this nation's worst pollution disaster 50 years ago, before any of our major environmental laws were written. On the evening of October 26, 1948, the people of that working class community went to bed not knowing that a suffocating cloud of industrial gases and dust would descend upon them like some biblical plague during the night.
