The pine tree flowers are bursting with pollen. Pollen from pine is amazing , fish and amphibians swimming downstream from pine processing factories transition from female to male from it (they are more sensitive to hormones). It's one of the few natural androgenic foods that significantly boosts testosterone, DHEA, and growth hormone production. Pine pollen is (and I dislike this word) a superfood, and it's free right now and abundant. I find it easy and relaxing to harvest. There are pine trees everywhere! I just wanted to tell everyone about it - too lazy to make a post on my website. Some ideas: take the flowers off the trees and put them in a bag. Use a sift and shake the pollen out into a big bowl. Pour the pollen into a jar. Make tinctures using alcohol, store it in the refrigerator/freezer, OR put a few tablespoons into thick creamy honey and make medicinal honey. Check out its benefits online and make sure you know what to look for ![]() I also make tea year-round with the pine needles. Helps you obtain a lot of minerals that are missing from our soil depleted monoculture diets, tastes nice too! Last edited by kabaraz; 21-05-2012 at 12:56 AM. |

In Bulgaria every household used to make pine honey
It has excellent flavour with some cool pine notes. I even preferred it to bee honey. Nowadays though since the country is capitalist people like to shop and have forgotten about this super food. I didn't know you can make a tea from the needles I'll try that. Sounds like a very good idea Thanks

As the taste is similar and it's got pollen. You put the pine flowers in water and boil it. When the water is boiled you take out the pine flowers. You add more water and keep boiling it till half of the water evaporates. After that you add a sweetener like stevia/agave/xylotol to taste and keep boiling it till it gets thicker. I guess there must be a way to make it without boiling it but it will require a good press to extract the juice from it the pine flowers. That would be ideal. You can make the same type of honey with green cones too.

The pine needle tea is great, very energizing just by itself. I like to add lemon to it this way. Seems to help with absorption of the minerals/vitamins. You can get a lot of sulfur and trace minerals from the pine that we no longer get in our diet.
But if you add licorice root (asian stores, bulk spice section in food coops) and fresh rosemary, maybe some coconut milk it's amazing. Markus Rothkranz is a cool guy, a little eccentric and 'out there' but he shows how to do this on his site. I discovered it first haha ...You can eat the pollen raw, doesn't need to be heated at all. Mixing it into raw honey is perfect and easy. You can store it away forever that way and it tastes great. Last edited by kabaraz; 22-05-2012 at 05:10 AM. |

I think I'll go foraging this weekend! ---------- Unless the pollen powder is fresh the potency is not at optimum level. The antioxidants that keep it fresh expire with time. I wouldn't buy pollen from a far away country.

Is all pine the same with regards to pollen?
The pine tree outside is producing a yellow mist of pollen at the moment, do I need to find out what type of pine it is or is it all good? |

As long as it is actually a species of pine it is good. It's actually pretty hard to make a mistake in identifying it.
You're so lucky, go gather it!! Take the pine flowers off and put them in a paper bag, then use a very fine sift and shake the pine into a bowl. Freeze it in a jar if you want it to keep or add it to raw honey. Pine pollen is serious business and sells for like $40 for a few oz. It is a great idea to harvest it because it truly is powerful. The pine in your area will stop producing pollen very shortly so you have a limited window of time. |

Just reading this thread makes my nose stuffy and my eyes itchy I hate the yellow stuff in the spring and its one of many reasons I now live in the desert less pollen

LOL.
RBL just pull those pine flowers off the trees into a paper bag or something. I try to pull the paper bag over them so I don't lose the pollen during harvest. cool pic it's the right stuff :P Last edited by kabaraz; 12-06-2012 at 01:31 PM. |

I gathered some for about 3-4 hrs, only got 95g powder but I got a lot of cones still loaded with pollen which I will use to make tincture. I had some first thing, definitely got a strong effect off it.
I think most allergies are from grass pollen... |

It's winter in Australia so I ordered some from China and it arrived today. Smells so divine like a pine forest.
I took a large table spoon, took a bit for it to become moist in my mouth but then I swallowed it all. Tastes quiet pleasant, slightly sweet, yet a little bitter maybe and has a very nice aroma to it. Will definitely add this to my super foods list. I can see it being very yummy mixed with raw or manuka honey...

Ive read a few things which make never want to eat anything from China. They seem to be monopolising the food industry as well as everything else. Their organic labeling system is also a joke apparently. |

Doesn't the cells from pine pollen need to be cracked before you can absorb the nutrients?
