this sounds all very similar to Arthur.C.Clarke's "Childhoods end"
Clarke himself was an elite insider who was involved in many of the early British space exploration research. Clarke in reality was a bit of a dodgy character but the idea of the devil being an imprint on the human mind as an archetypal image of the bringer of doom from an earlier visitation by a species of aliens is pretty much one of the themes of his book "Childhoods end"
