Default US soldiers asked to disarm. Mutiny?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...ta-speech.html

Quote:
Less than a week after a US staff sergeant allegedly massacred 16 civilians in Kandahar, American soldiers were banned from bringing guns into a talk by Mr Panetta at a base in Helmand province.
Around 200 troops who had gathered in a tent at Camp Leatherneck were told "something had come to light" and asked abruptly to file outside and lay down their automatic rifles and 9mm pistols.
"Somebody got itchy, that's all I've got to say. Somebody got itchy – we just adjust," said the sergeant who was told to clear the hall of weapons.
Major General Mark Gurganus later said he gave the order because Afghan troops attending the talk were unarmed and he wanted the policy to be consistent for all.
It's looking like they can't even trust their own soldiers now, not the newly trained Afghans but US soldiers. Sending the troops to die in an unwinnable war and for what? More and more people are getting fed up with the situation, that will include the soldiers, it is them who are having to do the dying.

It smells like mutiny is in the air. Will it be confined to Afghan bases or will it spread to US soil?

I think the soldiers have found out that their masters can't be trusted.

I can see them disarming all of the military now they have served their purpose and been used to arm the newly redundant TSA tossers or security.

The military likes to do a job, go in, finish quickly and get out, the "enemy" isn't clear cut, whatever goals the politicians repeat to sell the mission to the public and recruits are never met. The killing is relentless, the soldiers are being blamed for the decisions made by their superiors and are being killed for them.

The whole thing is tedious. Taliban take a village, soldiers go in, lose a few friends, clear the village, give it back to the villagers then a couple of weeks later the village is back under Taliban control.

Most people are frustrated, they don't know why they are there. The Afghans haven't heard of what happened in 2001, the poppy harvest is at an all time high, ever.

I think that some soldiers are beginning to wake up to the fact that they are wasting their time, why has it taken so long or were they just able to keep a lid on it more effectively?

It would be nice to think that the government is starting to lose it's control over the military.

It is the mark of a weak regime when it's leaders are in fear of the very people who are asked to defend their country. A weak regime indeed.

Maybe the time is not far off.

“US soldiers were asked to disarm during a speech by Leon Panetta, the American defence secretary, in a sign of grown concern over spates of seemingly random violence in Afghanistan. Let’s go to our Sly News Correspondent on the ground, Earnest Lipchitz. What’s Happening Earnie”

‘Yes Innocence, it seems as if the security detail for the Defence Secretary felt that he would be defenseless if soldiers here got ‘itchy’ and would…’

“’Itchy’, Earnie?”

‘ Yes Innocence, reliable Intelligence sources here say it’s a condition that affects soldiers when camel fleas infest their jock straps, and has been directly linked to what Military Researchers are calling Indexus Digitorae Malfunctionum or IDM, hence the increased security around our Defence Secretary and the disarming of the entire military presence here.’

“How is the Defence Secretary holding up Earnie?”

'He seemed a little pale and jumpy Innocence, much like the locals and the soldiers here, but perked up after a visit to the Mobile Canteen after which he told reporters how disappointed he was that there wasn’t any Kentucky Bourbon, and berated the Military Industrial Complex for their insensitivity and lack of patriotism for forcing soldiers to drink a cheap imported brand of vodka called Count Putin.'

"How Horrible! Thank you Earnie… and now a word from the Market"
