Default EATR Military Robots to Use Biomatter as Fuel

http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/10/e...funny-anymore/

Oh sure, we joke about rogue AI all the time, and we're aware that we'll probably pollute ourselves to death well before the robots get us, but who really thinks flesh-eating machines are a good idea? Has Morpheus taught us nothing? The (patently evil) scientists behind the EATR project -- no fair, they're making their own jokes now too -- say the reconnaissance bot is powered by foraging for and consuming biomatter, which to you and us simply means soft, pulsating, yummy humans. They call it fuel versatility, as gasoline, diesel, and solar power may also be used if available, yet we'll offer no prizes for predicting which energy source these chainsaw-equipped robots will prefer.

'The Matrix' Fulfilled: EATR Military Robots to Use Biomatter as Fuel

http://www.switched.com/2009/07/09/t...e-biomatter-a/

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), a research and development organization for the Department of Defense, aims to "maintain the technological superiority of the U.S military." It seeks to accomplish this goal by developing robots, lasers, spacecraft, and other awesome futuristic weapons of annihilation. It also apparently has no desire to heed the warnings of the 'Matrix' or 'Terminator' movies.

According to The Register, the group's latest design, the Energetically Autonomous Tactical Robot (EATR), is a pilot-less, steam-powered drone. Designed for long-range missions, it refuels itself by devouring any fossil fuels or biological matter in its path. While DARPA mentions using refuse such as apple cores for fuel, it's difficult to imagine these things not being used to harvest people as an energy source.

So, what happens when the EATRs completely decimate the Earth's natural resources (if they don't completely wipe out the human race first)? Well, it should only take a few slight adjustments to make sure the remnants of those scooped-up humans can be turned into tasty and nutritious green cracker treats. It's just too bad Charlton Heston isn't around to tell everyone "I told you so."

i told people about the "ovens" in the us. the numerous renovated facilities which are mostly next to railways. they have nice new barbed wire fences(which point inward like a prison), obvious new gas lines that are to large for simple furnace apps going to the same area, the freshly painted lines next to where the train enters the fenced facility, security cameras and security for a supposed empty building, videotaped proof of military presence, the many video taped locations around the country also where FEMA has stored hundreds of thousands of black plastic coffins that can hold up to three bodies(why so many?). ive also told people what happens when martial law is in effect here, these prisons will be homes for many, and the end for many. many think im nuts, i know im not. pay attention people, look on you tube and put in "FEMA concentration camps" it will scare the hell out of you, its no joke, this world is gonna turn upside down when they try to enforce the "new world order", unfortunately, there is NO where to run.

also everyone should google "rex 84". or look it up on you yube. mykisa is right, these machines will do the dirty work, but also let it be known, there has been entire platoons of foreign military, training in our country for urban and rural exercises that are designed only for herding us like sheep. foreign troops under law from the new world order in our country? that scares the crap out of me

Default Learn about darpa

http://www.darpa.mil/index.html#learn

DARPA is the central research and development organization for the U.S. Department of Defense. DARPA's mission is to maintain the technological superiority of the U.S. military and prevent technological surprise from harming our national security. We fund researchers in industry, universities, government laboratories and elsewhere to conduct high-risk, high-reward research and development projects that will benefit U.S. national security.

DARPA research runs the gamut from conducting basic, fundamental scientific investigations in a laboratory setting to building full-scale prototypes of military systems. We fund research in a wide variety of scientific disciplines — biology, medicine, computer science, chemistry, physics, engineering, mathematics, material sciences, social sciences, neuroscience, and more.

Our contracted researchers build information systems, aircraft, robots, spacecraft, microcircuits, lasers, sensors, rifles, advanced networks, medical devices, and much, much more. When a DARPA research program is completed, the technology is available to the Military Services and defense contractors for use in military systems.

I'm telling you. Soylent green mixed with The Terminator...

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,532492,00.html

It could be a combination of 19th-century mechanics, 21st-century technology — and a 20th-century horror movie.

A Maryland company under contract to the Pentagon is working on a steam-powered robot that would fuel itself by gobbling up whatever organic material it can find — grass, wood, old furniture, even dead bodies.

Robotic Technology Inc.'s Energetically Autonomous Tactical Robot — that's right, "EATR" — "can find, ingest, and extract energy from biomass in the environment (and other organically-based energy sources), as well as use conventional and alternative fuels (such as gasoline, heavy fuel, kerosene, diesel, propane, coal, cooking oil, and solar) when suitable," reads the company's Web site.

That "biomass" and "other organically-based energy sources" wouldn't necessarily be limited to plant material — animal and human corpses contain plenty of energy, and they'd be plentiful in a war zone.

EATR will be powered by the Waste Heat Engine developed by Cyclone Power Technology of Pompano Beach, Fla., which uses an "external combustion chamber" burning up fuel to heat up water in a closed loop, generating electricity.

The advantages to the military are that the robot would be extremely flexible in fuel sources and could roam on its own for months, even years, without having to be refueled or serviced.

Upon the EATR platform, the Pentagon could build all sorts of things — a transport, an ambulance, a communications center, even a mobile gunship.

In press materials, Robotic Technology presents EATR as an essentially benign artificial creature that fills its belly through "foraging," despite the obvious military purpose.

http://www.robotictechnologyinc.com/index.php/EATR

Energetically Autonomous Tactical Robot (EATR) Project

We originated the concept of the EATR in 2003 and the project was sponsored as a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) project by an agency of the Department of Defense..

The purpose of the Energetically Autonomous Tactical Robot (EATR)™ (patent pending) project is to develop and demonstrate an autonomous robotic platform able to perform long-range, long-endurance missions without the need for manual or conventional re-fueling, which would otherwise preclude the ability of the robot to perform such missions. The system obtains its energy by foraging – engaging in biologically-inspired, organism-like, energy-harvesting behavior which is the equivalent of eating. It can find, ingest, and extract energy from biomass in the environment (and other organically-based energy sources), as well as use conventional and alternative fuels (such as gasoline, heavy fuel, kerosene, diesel, propane, coal, cooking oil, and solar) when suitable.

This demonstration project can lead to three potential Phase III commercialization projects: (1) the development of prototype and operational EATR™ systems for military and civil applications; (2) new civil and military applications for the autonomous intelligent control system; and (3) development of the hybrid external combustion engine system for civil and military automotive applications, whether for manned or unmanned vehicles.

so why isnt this technology being used now for energy and work in a good way? if the so called carbon footprint and fossile fuels are destroying the planet, why not lead by example?
sounds like bull shit to me to be honest..

I was wondering if there could even be a worse idea than machines that need to consume flesh to live?

Anyone? anyone? lol

They have robot dogs with missles, hovering machine gun penguins,

and the need for a guy in a blue super suit to fight them.

Maybe the first one Megaman disables will become his robot dog.

It's like the bloody twighlight zone.

I know right. But why can't they ever build things for the good of the people? I just dont fucking get human beings sometimes man.

Default Cyclone Power Technologies Responds to Rumors abou

EATR robots claim to be vegetarian... sure

Cyclone Power Technologies Responds to
Rumors about “Flesh Eating” Military Robot

http://www.cyclonepower.com/press/7-16-09.pdf

POMPANO BEACH, FL, July 16, 2009. In response to rumors circulating the internet on sites such as
FoxNews.com, FastCompany.com and CNET News about a “flesh eating” robot project, Cyclone
Power Technologies Inc. (Pink Sheets: CYPW) and Robotic Technology Inc. (RTI) would like to set
the record straight: This robot is strictly vegetarian.
On July 7, Cyclone announced that it had completed the first stage of development for a beta
biomass engine system used to power RTI’s Energetically Autonomous Tactical Robot (EATR™), a
Phase II SBIR project sponsored by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA),
Defense Sciences Office. RTI’s EATR is an autonomous robotic platform able to perform longrange,
long-endurance missions without the need for manual or conventional re-fueling.
RTI’s patent pending robotic system will be able to find, ingest and extract energy from biomass in
the environment. Despite the far-reaching reports that this includes “human bodies,” the public
can be assured that the engine Cyclone has developed to power the EATR runs on fuel no scarier
than twigs, grass clippings and wood chips – small, plant-based items for which RTI’s robotic
technology is designed to forage. Desecration of the dead is a war crime under Article 15 of the
Geneva Conventions, and is certainly not something sanctioned by DARPA, Cyclone or RTI.
“We completely understand the public’s concern about futuristic robots feeding on the human
population, but that is not our mission,” stated Harry Schoell, Cyclone’s CEO. “We are focused on
demonstrating that our engines can create usable, green power from plentiful, renewable plant
matter. The commercial applications alone for this earth-friendly energy solution are enormous.”
CORPORATE PROFILE
Cyclone Power Technologies is the developer of the award-winning Cyclone Engine – an eco-friendly external
combustion engine with the power and versatility to run everything from portable electric generators and garden
equipment to cars, trucks and locomotives. Invented by company founder and CEO Harry Schoell, the patented
Cyclone Engine is a modern day steam engine, ingeniously designed to achieve high thermal efficiencies through a
compact heat-regenerative process, and to run on virtually any fuel - including bio-diesels, syngas or solar - while
emitting fewer greenhouse gases and irritating pollutants into the air. Currently in its late stages of development, the
Cyclone Engine was recognized by Popular Science Magazine as the Invention of the Year for 2008, and was presented
with the Society of Automotive Engineers’ AEI Tech Award in 2006 and 2008. Additionally, Cyclone was recently
named Environmental Business of the Year by the Broward County Environmental Protection Department. For more

Robots That Eat Bugs and Plants for Power

Controversial robots devour biomass to gain energy independence
By Susannah F. Locke Posted 10.10.2009

Crunch'n'Munch EATR will grab plants with its robotic arm, chop them with a mini chainsaw, and burn them in its onboard steam combustion engine to make power. Francis Govers III

No matter how intelligent a robot might be, it’s nice knowing you can pull its plug to halt the anti-human insurrection. Whoops, not anymore. A new cohort of ’bots that make energy by gobbling organic matter could be the beginning of truly autonomous machines.
This first wave of biomass-munching robots has been designed with safe, slow, long-term vocations in mind, such as surveillance, clearing land mines, or monitoring sewer pipes and other locales too dark for solar cells. Take EcoBot II, the tambourine-size fly-eating machine built by Bristol Robotics Laboratory in England. Engineers hand-feed this robot insects, which it digests in a microbial fuel cell—essentially a tank of sludgy bacteria and oxygen—that converts the insects into electricity. An eight-fly meal can drive it up to seven feet.

EATR (for Energetically Autonomous Tactical Robot), a car-size military reconnaissance ’bot, will forage more actively. The Darpa-funded concept vehicle from Robert Finkelstein of Robotic Technology in Washington, D.C., will use cameras and radar-like sensors to spot twigs and leaves. It will then chop up food and toss it into a combustion chamber built by engineer Harry Schoell (a 2008 PopSci Invention Award winner). Schoell’s steam engine runs on anything that burns and will get EATR around 100 miles per 150 pounds of vegetation. Both the EcoBot and EATR teams are working on software to help the robots conserve energy during lean times, and a full EATR prototype should be scavenging by 2011. For those inclined to fear an autonomous, chainsaw-wielding robot, take comfort that its programming will restrict it to only grabbing morsels that match the shape, color and texture of plant life. “It won’t consume a chocolate layer cake, because it won’t recognize it as food,” Finkelstein says. “And it certainly won’t go running after animals.”
