'Imagine' That: Fostering Creativity In The Workplace

I have just read this article and think that this subject might be interesting to take further here.

I find that I have quite a creative mind, perhaps you do too? What do you do to harness it?

On a very short clip on a Ray Mears show, there was a man who specialised in making flint tools. His words were something like: 'When you concentrate on a problem, on one point so intesively, the solutions from thousands of years ago, when people had the same problems, come to us'.

My real insight started when at the age of nine I was given an old 90cc vespa scooter by a neighbour which had been standing over winter and was told if I could get it going it was mine, so after watching a couple of neighbours tinkering with their old cars on a Sunday morning I went and got a book from the library and soon discovered it had no spark, tinkered a bit from the book and then soon discovered what a spark was like whilst holding the HT lead.

I emptied the petrol from our lawn mower, flushed everything through kicked it and she fired up, I then spent the next couple of hours driving the neighbours mad riding it around the block until it ran out of gas.

Humans need time to think and to rest, modern lifestyles inhibit these traights and if we slow down we are much better at getting things done, myself anyway, my best work was done in the last 20 years.

I remember that flint knapper piece on Ray Mears, that guy was talking about words I often use, Hand to eye coordination, the guy who made my survival jacket made one that Ray wore, from a little shed in Yorkshire, made from pure Ventile or water tight cotton, and what Gore-tex is trying to emulate but still cannot.
