The Unicorn

Irish Rovers
From the album The Best Of, © 1999
By Shel Silverstein

A long time ago when the earth was green,
There were more kinds of animals than you've ever seen,
They'd run around free while the earth was being born,
But the loveliest of all was the Unicorn.

There were green alligators, and long necked geese,
Some humpty-back camels and some chimpanzees,
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as your born,
The loveliest of all was the Unicorn.

Now God seen some sinning and it gave him pain,
And he said stand back I'm going to make it rain.
He said hey brother Noah I'll tell you what to do,
Build me a floating zoo...

And take some of them green alligators, and long necked geese,
Some humpty-back camels and some chimpanzees,
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as your born,
But don't you forget my Unicorn.

Well Noah was there to answer the call,
And he finished making the ark just as the rain started to fall.
He marched in the animals two by two,
And he called out as they went through... Hey Lord

I got your green alligators, and long necked geese,
Some humpty-back camels and some chimpanzees,
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as your born,
I just can't find no Unicorn.

Well Noah looked out through the driving rain,
The Unicorns were hiding and playing silly games.
They were kicking and a-splashing while the rain was pouring,
Oh them silly Unicorns.

Noah cried close the door, because the rain is pouring,
And we just can't wait for no Unicorn.

Well the ark started moving and it drifted with the tide.
The Unicorns looked up from the rocks and they cried,
And the waters came down and sort of floated them away,
And that's why you've never seen a Unicorn - to this very day

There were green alligators, and long necked geese,
Some humpty-back camels and some chimpanzees,
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as your born,
The loveliest of all was the Unicorn.

White stag sighting in Scotland
ITN - Monday, February 11 05:44 pm (http://uk.news.yahoo.com/itn/20080211/tuk-white-stag-sighting-in-scotland-dba1618_1.html)
A rare white deer has been spotted roaming wild on the west coast of the Scottish highlands.

Fran Lockhart, of the John Muir Trust, a charity which protects wild land, said she was "thrilled" to spot the majestic beast, which is closely identified with the mythical unicorn.

"It was amazing to crawl up so close to such a magnificent looking animal," she said.

"He looked almost ghostlike next to the group of young red stags that he was mixing with."

In a bid to protect it from poachers, the trust has decided to keep the stag's location secret.

Another white stag that was sighted last year, on the border between Devon and Cornwall, was shot and killed.

Ms Lockhart said: "I am thrilled to know that there is a white stag roaming free out there in the Scottish Highlands and that I was privileged enough to be able to spend an hour observing him.

"We will be watching this animal with interest particularly as he will be reaching his full potential in the next couple of years."

White deer figure in the mythology of many cultures. The Celts considered them messengers from another world.

What I found weird about this story was I wondered if the lady in it was just trying to advertise her name... [I know this as my partner is called Hart, but copy it from Wiki anyway].. Depending on their species, male deer are called stags, harts, bucks or bulls, and females are called hinds, does or cows. Young deer are called fawns or calves. A group of deer is commonly called a herd. Hart, from Old English heorot ‘deer’, is a term for a stag, particularly a Red Deer stag past its fifth year. It is not commonly used, but Shakespeare makes several references, punning the sound alike "hart" and "heart" for example in Twelfth Night. "The White Hart" and "The Red Hart" are common English pub names, and the county Hertfordshire is named after them.
It kinda means with this sighting, great changes are ahead in nature and climate... (human evolving?)..look out and stay alert...not long now

Ladies & Gentlemen; an Appocryphal Anecdote:

A profound change occured the day Yahweh had Adam name the animals. Until then, Adam thought he was like them, just different. So he gathered the animals and the first one he named, he called a Unicorn. Yahweh liked this, so He touched the beast upon the head and a single horn grew from the Unicorns forehead, and Father Yahweh declared the Unicorn: Lord of All Beasts. Adam & Eve would ride the Unicorn through the Garden. Life was 'Good'.

Now Adam & Eve having consumed the knowledge of Satans way, 'realised' they were naked and were 'ashamed'. Yahweh noticed also and came to kick them out of the Garden. Yahweh brought Adam & Eve and the Unicorn to the Gate of the Garden, and placed Malakim with Flameing Swords at the Gate to prevent their return.

Appocryphal Anecdote:
Father Yahweh turned to the Unicorn, and said, 'You are Blameless in this sordid affair, you may remain in the Garden if you wish, or you may accompany Adam & Eve out into the world, where there is pestilence and war, and pain in childbirth and death'. The Unicorn looked at the Gate of the Garden of Yahweh, Eden, with Malakim with Flameing Swords guarding the entrance, turned and looked at Adam & Eve, and chose to accompany them.

Forever after the Unicorn was Blessed for its compassion. It could have remained in Yahwehs Garden, Eden, a place of ideal beauty and delight, but instead, out of Love, the Unicorn chose the hard way, the Human way.

The Unicorn understood the truth about Yahweh and his dark magic and his curse upon his enslaved humanity. Who else but a high magician (or alien creator god) with access to greater knowledge about the nature of 'reality', would delight to gloat this knowledge to his underlings kept captive in his garden? Who else but a massive show-off would demonstrate his abilities to his Adams and Eves, by touching a creature already known and loved by them on the forehead to create a horn in his own honour? ;)

Naturally the Unicorns followed the humans because having spent joyous time with them in the self-contained prison garden, the creatures were already embued with the innate goodness of the loving human spirit.

A Unicorn Horn Twenty Inches Long

http://einhornpress.com/images/UNICORN%20TOPSELL%20CLR%20588.BMP

This unicorn testimony, about the acquisition of a twenty-inch unicorn horn by Major Latter, in the mountainous regions of central Asia, is extracted from but a small portion of the comprehensive evidence for the existence of unicorns presented in Larry Brian Radka's Historical Evidence For Unicorns. He extracted this particular piece of rare history from a long treatise on the Unicorn found in an 1832 edition of Calmet's Dictionary of the Holy Bible. It reads as follows:

The Quarterly Review for Oct. 1820, (vol. xxiv. 120.) in a notice of Frazer's tour through the Himalayan mountains, states: “We have no doubt that a little time will bring to light many objects of natural history peculiar to the elevated regions of central Asia, and hitherto unknown in the animal, vegetable and mineral kingdoms, particularly in the two former. This is an opinion which we have long entertained; but we are led to the expression of it on the present occasion, by having been favored with the perusal of a most inter esting communication from major Latter, command ing in the rajah of Sikkim's territories, in the hilly country east of Nepal, addressed to adjutant-gen*eral Nicol, and transmitted by him to the marquis of Hastings. This important paper explicitly states that the unicorn, so long considered as a fabulous animal, actually exists at this moment in the interior of Thi bet, where it is well known to the inhabitants. ‘This’—we copy from the major's letter—‘is a very curious fact, and it may be necessary to mention how the cir*cumstance became known to me. In a Thibetian transcript, containing the names of different animals, which I procured the other day from the hills, the unicorn is classed under the head of those whose hoofs are divided: it is called the one-horned tso'po: Upon inquiring what kind of animal it was, to our astonish*ment, the person who brought the manuscript de*scribed exactly the unicorn of the ancients; saying, that it was a native of the interior of Thibet, about the size of a tattoo, [a horse from twelve to thirteen hands high,] fierce and extremely wild; seldom, if ever, caught alive, but frequently shot; and that the flesh was used for food.’—‘The person,’ major Latter adds, ‘who gave me this information, has repeatedly seen these animals, and eaten the flesh of them. They go together in herds, like our wild buffaloes, and are very frequently to be met with on the borders of the great desert, about a month's journey from Lassa, in that part of the country inhabited by the wandering Tartars.’

From Edward Topsell's 1607 edition of the History of Four-Footed Beasts

“This communication is accompanied by a drawing made by the messenger from recollection. It bears some resemblance to a horse, but has cloven hoofs, a long curved horn growing out of the fore head, and a boar-shaped tail, like that of the fera monoceros described by Pliny. From its herding together, as the unicorn of the Scriptures is said to do, as well as from the rest of the description, it is evi dent that it cannot be the rhinoceros, which is a soli tary animal ; besides major Latter states that, in the Thibetian manuscript, the rhinoceros is described under the name of servo, and classed with the ele phant; ‘neither,’ says he, ‘is it the wild horse, (well known in Thibet,) for that has also a different name, and is classed in the manuscript with the animals which have the hoofs undivided.’—‘I have written,’ he subjoins, ‘to the Sachia Lama, requesting him to procure me a perfect skin of the animal, with the head, horn and hoofs; but it will be a long time be*fore I can get it down, for they are not to be met with nearer than a month's journey from Lasso.’”

As a sequel to this account, we find the following paragraph in the Calcutta Government Gazette, Au*gust, 1821: “Major Latter has obtained the horn of a young unicorn from the Sachia Lama, which is now before us. It is twenty inches in length; at the root it is four inches and a half in circumference, and tapers to a point; it is black, rather flat at the sides, and has fifteen rings, but they are only prominent on one side; it is nearly straight. Major Latter expects to obtain the head of the animal, with the hoofs and the skin, very shortly, which will afford positive proof of the form and character of the tso'po, or Thibet unicorn.”

Such are the latest accounts which have reached us of this animal; and although their credibility cannot well be contested, and the coincidence of the de*scription with that of Pliny is so striking, yet it is sin*gular that in the lapse of more than ten years, (1832,) nothing further should have been heard on a subject so interesting.

The excerpt above comes from Historical Evidence For Unicorns, written by Larry Brian Radka. Hi Razed:

You are hardly one to speak of REAL :D:rolleyes:;)

I am well familiar with the Tales of the Archons, I have not seen source information predating the CE.

Do you have information of this aspect pre-dating 7-800 BCE?

If so, please Illuminate, in the Book of YHVH Thread

Thank You in Advance.

Unicorn History

"The unicorn exists because it exists. Such an animal does not come from nothing. If only those, unfortunately many, pseudo scientists would have the sense and imagination simply to deduce that there is a unicorn legend - because there are unicorns! Do not most of these same self-righteous zoologists hypocritically profess belief in Jesus Christ, relying as their only form of proof of his existence on that Bible that says:

'God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of a unicorn.' (Numbers 23:22)

'His glory is like the firstling of his bullock, and his horns are like the horns of unicorns.' (Deuteronomy 33:17)

'Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib? Can'st thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? (job 39:9-12)

'Save me from the lion's mouth: for thou hast heard me from the horns of the unicorns.' (Psalms 22:21)

The voice of the Lord breaketh the cedars; yea, the Lord breaketh the cedars of Lebanon. He maketh them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn.' (Psalms 29:5-6)

'But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn.' (Psalms 92:10)

'For the Lord hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Idumea. And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls.' (Isaiah 34:6-7).

* Editors Note: In the Book of YHVH Translation, the Unicorn is rendered: Wild Ox

Unicorns
The Complete Story of Unicorns through the Ages

The Mystery of the
Unicorn

The Unicorn is one of the most mysterious of all animals. It has been glorified in folk tales, songs, poems, and stories for centuries; and it remains one of the great "unsolved mysteries" of the world. Despite the widely held belief in its existence, it has not been seen in centuries ; and the popular Eastern image from Chinese folklore is very different from the familiar Western image of a white horse-like creature. The only consistent fact is that a Unicorn has a single horn in the middle of its forehead.

For true believers, the fact that it no longer exists only adds to the mystique; placing it in the same realm as the dinosaurs, the mammoth, and possibly such unknown creatures as Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster. Others believe the Unicorn still exists in remote regions and can be discovered only by those of exceptional virtue and honesty.

In the meantime, we can marvel at its beauty and pay tribute to its unique place in the culture and history of the world.

The Eastern Unicorn

The Unicorn has existed in Chinese mythology for thousands of years. It appears in many different forms, but the most familiar is a beast with the body of a deer, the tail of an ox, the hooves of a horse, and a single short horn growing out of the middle of its forehead. The hair on its back is five-colored to represent the five sacred Chinese colors: red, yellow, blue, white, and black. The hair on its belly is yellow. In some accounts, it has green scales like a dragon.

The Chinese Unicorn is known as Kilin (pronounced chee-lin), which is a combination of both Ki, the male Unicorn, and Lin, the female Unicorn. It is careful not to tread on even the tiniest living thing and will eat only plant life that is no longer living. It lives for 1,000 years.

The Kilin is said to spring from the earth and is revered as one of the four superior animals of good omen (together with the phoenix, the dragon, and the tortoise) that foretell future events and represent the basic elements of life:

The First Unicorns

In Chinese mythology, the Unicorn was an animal of good omen that came to humans only on important missions. Its appearance was interpreted as a sign of good times, and the fact that it has not been seen in many centuries suggests that we are living in "bad" times. It will appear once again when the time is right and when goodness reigns.

One of the first Unicorns is said to have appeared almost 5,000 years ago to give Emperor Fu Hsi the secrets of written language. Then, almost 4,700 years ago in 2697 B.C., another Unicorn made an appearance in the garden of the Yellow Emperor (Huang Di). This auspicious omen was seen by the emperor as a sign that his reign would be long and peaceful. Two Unicorns also lived during the reign of Emperor Yao, the fourth of the Five Emperors who shaped the world 4,000 years ago.

Birth and Death of Confucius Foretold by Unicorns

The Chinese also believed that the Unicorn could foretell the birth of great men like the philosopher Confucius. In 551 B.C., Confucius' pregnant mother met a Unicorn in the woods. It gave her a small piece of jade and placed its head in her lap. She realized the importance of the event and knew it was a good omen from the gods.

An inscription on the piece of jade told of the great wisdom her son would possess; and, sure enough, Confucius became the most respected of all Chinese philosophers. Even today, 2,500 years later, his prophetic words are still honored and revered. In his old age, Confucius reportedly saw the Unicorn for himself and knew that it meant he would soon die.

Other Eastern Unicorns

In addition to China, other Asian countries also have Unicorn traditions. In Japan, it is known as Kirin and has a shaggy mane and the body of a bull. Unlike the Chinese Unicorn, it was a beast to he feared, especially by criminals. In fact, it was able to detect guilt; and judges were known to call upon the Unicorn to determine the guilty parties in legal disputes. After fixing its eerie stare on the guilty party, it would then pierce him through the heart with its horn.

An Arabian Unicorn known as karkadann was supposedly endowed with magical qualities. Its horn was a good-luck charm against the scorpion, and eating its meat got rid of demons. Based on the description from ancient texts, experts now believe that the karkadann was actually an oryx, a large antelope that appears to have only one horn when seen from the side.

The Western Unicorn

Perhaps the earliest mention of the Unicorn is by Herodotus, who in the 3rd century BC wrote of the 'horned ass' of Africa.

By the 4th century B.C., the Unicorn had become a very popular animal in the Western world. Another early surviving mention of the Unicorn comes from a century later, in the writings of the Greek historian and physician Ctesias who traveled to Persia and brought back fantastic stories from merchants who passed through India. Although he did not see one for himself, he describes a creature he calls the 'wild ass of India' as being equal in size to a horse, with a white body, a red head, bluish eyes and a straight horn on the forehead, a cubit long.

He describes the lower part of the horn as being white, the middle black, and the tip red. As a physician, he was especially interested in the horn, which he heard was protection against deadly poisons. Drinking cups made from the horn were believed to possess the power of neutralizing poison when poured into them. Ctesias represents the unicorn as being extraordinarily swift of foot, untamable and almost impossible to capture.

Soon after Ctesias' stories became known, the famous Greek philosopher Aristotle deduced that the Unicorn was probably a real animal, but he did not believe the stories of magical powers attributed to the horn. The respected historian Pliny the Elder {who was born early in the reign of Tiberius and died in AD 79 described the Unicorn in his Cyclopaedia "Historia Naturalis".}also came to the conclusion that a Unicorn existed in India.

Pliny's Unicorn is a ferocious beast with the body of a horse, the head of a deer, the feet of an elephant, the tail of a wild boar, and a single black horn two cubits long, standing out of its forehead. Both men reasoned that the accounts were plausible and that the animal could exist. In fact, there was no more reason to doubt the existence of a Unicorn than that of an elephant or giraffe. Just because they had never personally seen one did not mean it did not exist.

Other early Unicorn stories involve two of the greatest leaders of ancient times. In the 3rd century B.C., the Macedonian general Alexander the Great boasted that in one of his conquests, he rode a Unicorn into battle. In the century before the birth of Christ, Roman Emperor Julius Caesar reported seeing a Unicorn in the deep forests of southwestern Germany.

A few years before the birth of Christ, a well-respected Greek, Apollonius of Tyana, claimed to have seen a Unicorn in India. However, it was not until a few centuries later that the Unicorn really became part of the Western culture mainly because of its associations with the Bible and with Christ.

How to Catch a Unicorn

During the middle ages a fable was told that although the Unicorn was impossible to hunt down, it was so impressed by the presence of a lovely virgin that it would run up to her and submissively lay its head in her lap. Marco Polo's editor Colonel Yule affirms athat the Unicorn was supposed to be attracted noty by the lay's beauty or chastity, but by the perfumes of her dress.

Still legends that spread throughout Europe stated that it was impossible to catch a Unicorn by force. The only way to capture one was for a maiden to wait alone where Unicorns were known to be found. When he saw the maiden, the Unicorn would run up and lay its head in her lap - at which point it could be easily taken by the hunters hiding nearby.

Unicorn in the Sky

The first mention of the constellation Monoceros, the Unicorn, was by Jakob Bartsch around 1624. The stars of the Unicorn were described in detail in the catalog of Hevelius in 1690. The Milky Way runs through the center of this constellation. There are 146 stars in Monoceros that are visible to the naked eye.

Unicorns In the Bible

"My horn shall be exalted like the horn of the Unicorn."
The Book of Psalms

"He hath as it were the strength of a unicorn"
The Book of Numbers

"Will the Unicorn be willing to serve thee?"
Job

According to the book of Genesis, God gave Adam the task of naming everything he saw. In some translations of the Bible, the Unicorn was the first animal named; thereby, elevating it above all other beasts in the universe. When Adam and Eve left paradise, the Unicorn went with them and came to represent purity and chastity. Thus, the Unicorn's purity in the Western legends stems from its Biblical beginnings.

The Bible also offers an explanation about why the Unicorn has not been seen for so long. During the flood that engulfed the world for 40 days and 40 nights, Noah took two of each animal to safety ; but Unicorns were not among them. A Jewish folk tale mentions they were originally on board but demanded so much space and attention that Noah banished them. They either drowned or managed to swim during the flood and still survive somewhere in the world or, as some believe, evolved into the narwhale.

In addition, there are seven clear references to the Unicorn in the Old Testament; although, there is now doubt about the original translations that may have erroneously named another animal as a Unicorn.

The Jewish Talmud also makes many similar references to the Unicorn. In Jewish folklore it is the fiercest of all animals and is able to kill an elephant with a single thrust from its horn.

Throughout history, the church has interpreted the Unicom in a number of different ways. In medieval times, it became a symbol of Christ himself, and its horn was symbolic of the unity of Christ and God. Some medieval paintings show the Trinity with Christ represented by a Unicom. On the other hand, the Unicom also appears as a symbol of evil in the book of Isaiah. Overall, however, the Unicom has come to be regarded as a pure and virtuous animal.

Regardless of the place of the Unicom in Biblical theory, it is evident that there was a strong belief in the animal's existence in Biblical times, as well as in the following centuries. After all, it appears so often in the Old Testament that it can hardly be overlooked in the Christian world. The fact that it appears in the Bible meant that no devout Christian could doubt its authenticity.

Unicorn Saves India from Genghis Khan's Hordes
In medieval times, Asia was a place of great mystery; and the stories of Unicorns only made it more wondrous. For example, Prester John ruled over a vast Asian empire in the mid- 1100's; and he was reputed to have a number of tame Unicorns. To Europeans, this was a sign of his wealth and power.

The legend of the Unicorn gained a new chapter a century later when Mongolian warrior Genghis Khan conquered much of Asia to build a great empire. However, the intervention of a Unicorn made him abruptly turn back on the brink of adding India to his empire.

As Genghis Khan and his army prepared to invade for what would probably have been an easy victory, a Unicorn approached and knelt before him. Genghis Khan was taken aback, but realizing this was a sign from heaven not to attack, he turned his army away. One of the most ruthless and fearless warriors in history had been "tamed" by a simple Unicorn, and India was saved from invasion.

Historically, this was the last significant and reliable Unicorn sighting. In the late 1200s, though, Italian trader Marco Polo became famous for his accounts of travel in China and Southeast Asia. He even reported seeing a large Unicorn, almost as big as an elephant. His detailed description was almost certainly a rhinoceros, but the retelling of his tales and the illustrations that accompanied them usually made the Unicorn fit in with the traditional Western horse-like creature.

Unicorns in Modern Times

The desire to discover a Unicorn exists to this day, and many attempts have been made in the 20th century to "create" Unicorns. In the 1930s, Dr. W. Franklin Dove of Maine manipulated a calf's horn buds to make a bull with a single horn growing out of the middle of its head. Although this experiment did not offer an explanation about the existence of Unicorns, it did show that it is possible for animals to grow single ohms.

Fifty years later, the same procedure was used on white goats to produce Lancelot, the "Living Unicorn" that became a great attraction at the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus. This "Unicorn" resembled the small Unicorns often depicted in medieval paintings and tapestries. These animals were small enough to sit on the laps of young maidens.

The Royal Unicorn

Since the reign of King Robert III in the late 1300s, the Unicorn has been a part of the official seal of Scotland. Robert III turned to the purity and strength of the Unicorn for inspiration in rebuilding his nation; and the Unicorn was soon incorporated into the royal seal.

When James VI of Scotland became King James I of both England and Scotland on the death of Elizabeth I in 1603, he drew up a new royal coat-of- arms that included both the traditional English lion as well as the Scottish Unicorn.

According to folklore, however, the lion and the unicorn hate each other - a tradition going back to the ancient Babylonians in 3,500 B.C. The fight between the two results from the Unicorn representing Spring and the lion representing Summer. Each year the two fight for supremacy; and each year the lion eventually wins.

In the case of Scotland and England, the fight continued, and a popular English nursery rhyme of the period sums up the animosity. It also recalls old wars between England and Scotland that England invariably won:

The lion and the unicorn
Were fighting for the crown;
The lion beat the unicorn
All round about the town.

The lion and the Unicorn remain a part of the British coat-of-arms to this day, supporting the royal shield. The Canadian coat-of-arms is modeled on the British version, so it also features a lion and a Unicorn supporting a central shield.

The Power of the Unicorn

Because of the Unicom's purity, its horn (known as alicom) was considered magical and became a popular ingredient in medieval medicines. Its mere presence was considered a strong protection against poison in food, and when worn in jewelry, it protected the wearer from evil.

Alicorn was often worth more than its weight in gold, so kings, emperors, and popes were among the few people able to pay the high prices demanded. They were eager to acquire the precious horn to "guarantee" long and healthy lives. With such a lucrative trade, false alicorn was rampant, made from bull horn, goat horn, or in some cases from the horns of exotic animals or from ordinary dog bones.

Complete Unicom horns were very rare. For example, a complete Unicom horn owned by Queen Elizabeth I of England was valued at the time at £10,000 - the equivalent of about 3,000 ounces of gold and enough money to buy a large country estate complete with a castle. Rather than coming from unicorns, these complete horns often turned out to be the long spirally twisted tusks of the male narwhal, a large marine animal.

Kings often placed alicorn on the table to protect themselves against poisonous food and drink, and until the revolution toppled the monarchy in 1789, the eating utensils used by French kings were made of Unicom horn to counteract any poison in the food.

How to Test Real Unicorn Horn

Medieval pharmacists believed in the power of the Unicorn as a medicine, and the Unicorn even became the apothecaries' symbol. According to St. Hildegard, who passionately believed in the power of the Unicorn to heal illness, the Unicorn's strength came from the fact that once a year, it returned to drink the waters and eat the vegetation of paradise.

Ground Unicorn horn was said to cure fever, plague, epilepsy, rabies, gout, and a host of other ailments. Unicorn liver was a cure for leprosy. Shoes made of Unicorn leather assured healthy feet and legs, and a belt of Unicorn leather worn around the body warded off plague and fever. Belief in the power of the Unicorn was widely held in England until the mid- I 700s.

In order to distinguish "real" alicorn from false alicorn, elaborate tests were devised. Among them are the following:

Place scorpions under a dish with apiece of horn. If the scorpions die in a matter of hours, the horn is real.
Feed arsenic to pigeons, followed by a dose of Unicorn horn. If the pigeons live, the horn is genuine.
Draw a ring on the floor with the horn. If the horn is real, a spider will not be able to cross the ring.
Place the horn in cold water. If the water bubbles but remains cold, the horn came from a Unicorn.

The Hunt of the Unicorn

The Most Famous Unicorn Image

About the year 1500, a magnificent series of large tapestries was made in Belgium to trace the history of a hunt for the Unicorn. They were bought by John D. Rockefeller in 1922 and are now on display at the Cloisters museum in New York.

The series of seven tapestries follows the hunt from beginning to end. The Unicorn is discovered and chased by the party of noblemen, but they are unable to capture it. In the fifth tapestry, a young maiden tames and captures the Unicorn - relying on the age-old custom that a Unicorn could only be captured by a virgin.

In the last tapestry, the Unicorn is chained to a tree within a round wooden fence. This final scene is the most famous Unicorn image and has become the universally accepted picture of a Western Unicorn.

"...Well, now that we have seen each other," said the Unicorn, "If you'll believe in me, I'll believe in you."

Hebrew - unicorn

the rendering of the Authorized Version of the Hebrew reem , a word which occurs seven times in the Old Testament as the name of some large wild animal.

The reem of the Hebrew Bible, however, has nothing at all to do with the one-horned animal of the Greek and Roman writers, as is evident from ( 33:17) where in the blessing of Joseph it is said; "his glory is like the firstling of his bullock, and his horns are like the horns of a unicorn ;" not, as the text of the Authorized Version renders it, "the horns of unicorns
."

The two horns of the ram are "the ten thousands of Ephraim and the thousands of Manasseh." This text puts a one-horned animal entirely out of the question. Considering that the reem is spoken of as a two-horned animal of great strength and ferocity, that it was evidently well known and often seen by the Jews, that it is mentioned as an animal fit for sacrificial purposes, and that it is frequently associated with bulls and oxen we think there can be no doubt that, some species of wild ox is intended.

The allusion in (Psalms 92:10) "But thou shalt lift up, as a reeym , my horn," seems to point to the mode in which the Bovidae use their horns, lowering the head and then tossing it up.

But it is impossible to determine what particular species of wild ox is signified probably some gigantic urus is intended. (It is probable that it was the gigantic Bos primigeniua , or aurochs, now extinct, but of which Caesar says, "These uri are scarcely less than elephants in size, but in their nature, color and form are bulls.

Great is their strength and great their speed; they spare neither man nor beast when once; they have caught sight of them" --Bell. Gall. vi. 20.-ED.)

i thought unicorns were symbolic of goats which in turn are symbolic of the devil and all that black magic stuff. given how those loveable lizards like to reverse meanings like with doves, then surely unicorns are proper evil beasts, not the peaceful nice horseys we all know and love.

Cordial Felicitations; XXXX:

Can't recall seeing or hearing about a Unicorn-Goat connection.

Always read Unicorns were a Benevolent and Noble Creature, a 'Friend' of Humankind.

I checked with one of my most informed Humans; Barnacle Bill, the Sailor.

He has Sailed the Seven Seas and themsome.

He says all the Unicorns he encountered were Gentle and Kind and quite Tasty.

And he says the same for Goats.

If you got some info on the: Unicorn-Goat-Satan connection, feel free to Post it.

The Book of YHVH says it is a 'Wild Bull'

The Unicorn does make for some great Artwork.

But there could be something to your conjecture;

In the Book of Yahweh (bible) the Hebrew Tribes Founded a Kingdom in Canaan, they called this Kingdom: Yahdah (I will praise Yahweh).

The Kingdom of Yahdahs' Symbol is a: Lyon

TIME PASSES

Discord arises in the Kingdom of Yahdah and some of the Tribes Split and form a new Kingdom called: Yisrayl; their Symbol is: The Unicorn

Some people consider the Kingdom of Yisrayl to be Apostate, as falling away from Yahwehs Doctrines.

Notice: on Englands Coat of Arms; there is a Rampant Lyon and Rampant Unicorn

I can possibly see the Unicorn, by being Symbol of Yisrayl, representing the Tree of Righteousness and Evil, Satans Way,

but, then I remember.

The Unicorn, like everything in the Universe, is a creation of YHVH.

So the Unicorn is Innocent & Pure

The Carnal Mis-Use of the Unicorns Magnificent Visage by Carnal Humans and Carnal Inter-Dimensional and Inter-Galactic Entities, in no way reflects upon the Innate Nobility of the Unicorn, The Lord of All Beasts!!

Of Course, that is only my conjecture. :)

Good Question! :)

Yes, but in the royal Seal the Unicorn is chained to the Lion of England, symbolising the dominion of Scotland by England.
The Unicorn is the magical beast of Scotland as the Hare is the magikal beast of England. I don't know what the animals for Wales or Ireland are.

Single-celled bacterium works 24-7, converting light to energy by day, moonlighting at night

http://www.physorg.com/newman/gfx/news/singlecelled.jpg
Cyanothece is a unicellular bacterium that can capture energy from light and also fix atmospheric nitrogen. As part of a daily diurnal cycle, Cyanothece stores the products of photosynthesis and nitrogen fixation so that they can be used at the proper time. This ability makes Cyanothece an ideal system to understand how a unicellular organism balances and regulates complex processes in the same cell. Image courtesy of The Pakrasi Lab

Researchers at Washington University in St. Louis have gained the first detailed insight into the way circadian rhythms govern global gene expression in Cyanothece, a type of cyanobacterium (blue-green algae) known to cycle between photosynthesis during the day and nitrogen fixation at night.

In general, this study shows that during the day, Cyanothece increases expression of genes governing photosynthesis and sugar production, as expected. At night, however, Cyanothece ramps up the expression of genes governing a surprising number of vital processes, including energy metabolism, nitrogen fixation, respiration, the translation of messenger RNA (mRNA) to proteins and the folding of these proteins into proper configurations.

The findings have implications for energy production and storage of clean, alternative biofuels.

The study was published in the April online issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science. The research was funded by the U.S. Department of Energy in the context of a Biology Grand Challenge project administered by the Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.

Bacterial biological clock

"One of the mysteries in cellular physiology is this business of rhythm," said Himadri Pakrasi, Ph.D., the George William and Irene Koechig Freiberg Professor in Arts & Sciences and lead investigator of this project. "Circadian rhythm controls many physiological processes in higher organisms, including plants and people. Cyanothece are of great interest because, even though one cell lives less than a day, dividing every 10 to 14 hours, together they have a biological clock telling them when to do what over a 24-hour period. In fact, cyanobacteria are the only bacteria known to have a circadian behavior."

Why does such a short-lived, single-celled organism care what time it is? The answer, according to this study, is that the day-night cycle has a tremendous impact on the cell's physiology, cycling on and off many vital metabolic processes, not just the obvious ones.

Among the obvious cycling processes are photosynthesis and nitrogen fixation. It is difficult for one cell to perform these two functions because the processes are at odds with one another. Fixing nitrogen requires nitrogenase, a catalyst that helps the chemical reaction move forward. Unhelpfully, the oxygen produced by photosynthesis degrades nitrogenase, making nitrogen fixation difficult or impossible in photosynthetic organisms.

Other filamentous cyanobacteria perform photosynthesis and nitrogen fixation in different, separate cells. As a single-celled bacterium, however, Cyanothece cannot separate these antagonistic processes in space. But it can separate them in time.

Agreeing with previous studies, this study found that Cyanothece genes for photosynthesis turn on during the day and genes for nitrogen fixation turn on at night. The surprise is the tremendous impact the day-night cycle has on the overall physiology of the cell.

"It goes far beyond just the aspects of nitrogen fixation and photosynthesis," said Pakrasi, who also directs Washington University's International Center for Advanced Renewable Energy and Sustainability (I-CARES) to encourage and coordinate university-wide and external collaborative research in the areas of renewable energy and sustainability — including biofuels, carbon dioxide mitigation and coal-related issues. The university will invest more than $55 million in the initiative.

Cyanothece's 'Dark Period'

To see the effect of day-night cycles on the overall physiology of Cyanothece, lead author Jana Stöckel, Ph.D., Washington University post-doctoral researcher, and other members of this research team examined the expression of 5,000 genes, measuring the amount of messenger RNA for each gene in alternating dark and light periods over 48 hours. At a given time, the mRNA levels indicated what the cells were doing. For example, when the researchers identified high levels of many mRNAs encoding various protein components of the nitrogenase enzyme, they knew that the cells were fixing nitrogen at that time, in this case, during the dark periods.

Of the 5,000 genes studied, nearly 30 percent cycled on and off with changing light and dark periods. These particular genes, the study found, also govern major metabolic processes. Therefore, the cycling of mRNA transcription, Pakrasi said, "provides deep insight into the physiological behavior of the organism — day and night."

During the day, Cyanothece busies itself with photosynthesis. Using energy from sunlight, carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and water, Cyanothece produces glucose, a sugar it stores in glycogen granules, filling its chemical gas tank. At night, the Cyanothece ramps up production of nitrogenase to fix nitrogen, as expected. Since nitrogen fixation requires a lot of energy, Cyanothece uses the glycogen stored through a process called respiration. Because respiration requires oxygen, the cells conveniently use up this by-product of photosynthesis, likely helping to protect nitrogenase from degradation.

Through this cyclic expression of genes, Cyanothece is essentially a living battery, storing energy from the sun for later use. This feat continues to elude scientists searching for ways to harness sunlight and produce energy on a large scale. With this in mind, a new project for the Pakrasi team seeks to use the machinery of Cyanothece — its energy storage strategy, its anaerobic conditions that protect important enzymes — as a biofactory to produce hydrogen from sunlight, the ultimate clean energy source.

An iron atom and its four unpaired
electrons
by Tracy V. Wilson (http://science.howstuffworks.com/magnet3.htm)
Why Magnets Stick
If you've read How Electromagnets Work (http://science.howstuffworks.com/electromagnet.htm), you know that an electrical current moving through a wire creates a magnetic field. Moving electrical charges are responsible for the magnetic field in permanent magnets as well. But a magnet's field doesn't come from a large current traveling through a wire -- it comes from the movement of electrons.
Many people imagine electrons as tiny particles that orbit an atom's nucleus the way planets orbit a sun. As quantum physicists currently explain it, the movement of electrons is a little more complicated than that. Essentially, electrons fill an atom's shell-like orbitals, where they behave as both particles and waves. The electrons have a charge and a mass, as well as a movement that physicists describe as spin in an upward or downward direction. You can learn more about electrons in How Atoms Work (http://science.howstuffworks.com/atom.htm).
http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/laser1.jpg
A simplified view of an atom, with a
nucleus and orbiting electrons
Generally, electrons fill the atom's orbitals in pairs. If one of the electrons in a pair spins upward, the other spins downward. It's impossible for both of the electrons in a pair to spin in the same direction. This is part of a quantum-mechanical principle known as the Pauli Exclusion Principle.

Even though an atom's electrons don't move very far, their movement is enough to create a tiny magnetic field. Since paired electrons spin in opposite directions, their magnetic fields cancel one another out. Atoms of ferromagnetic elements, on the other hand, have several unpaired electrons that have the same spin. Iron, for example, has four unpaired electrons with the same spin. Because they have no opposing fields to cancel their effects, these electrons have an orbital magnetic moment. The magnetic moment is a vector -- it has a magnitude and a direction. It's related to both the magnetic field strength and the torque that the field exerts. A whole magnet's magnetic moments come from the moments of all of its atoms.
http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/magnet-electron-shell.gif
An iron atom and its four unpaired
electrons

In metals like iron, the orbital magnetic moment encourages nearby atoms to align along the same north-south field lines. Iron and other ferromagnetic materials are crystalline. As they cool from a molten state, groups of atoms with parallel orbital spin line up within the crystal structure. This forms the magnetic domains discussed in the previous section.

You may have noticed that the materials that make good magnets are the same as the materials magnets attract. This is because magnets attract materials that have unpaired electrons that spin in the same direction. In other words, the quality that turns a metal into a magnet also attracts the metal to magnets. Many other elements are diamagnetic -- their unpaired atoms create a field that weakly repels a magnet. A few materials don't react with magnets at all.

This explanation and its underlying quantum physics are fairly complicated, and without them the idea of magnetic attraction can be mystifying. So it's not surprising that people have viewed magnetic materials with suspicion for much of history. In the next section, we'll take a look at the powers ascribed to magnets, as well as what they can and can't do.
Measuring Magnets
You can measure magnetic fields using instruments like gauss meters, and you can describe and explain them using numerous equations. Here are some of the basics:
. Magnetic lines of force, or flux, are measured in Webers (Wb). In electromagnetic systems, the flux relates to the current.
.A field's strength, or the density of the flux, is measured in Tesla (T) or gauss (G). One Tesla is equal to 10,000 gauss. You can also measure the field strength in Webers per square meter. In equations, the symbol B represents field strength.
.The field's magnitude is measured in amperes per meter or oersted. The symbol H represents it in equations.

A vast green meadow of daisies and dandelions, a lone tree sporting beautiful cherry blossoms. It was like a picture from a story book. Resting 'neath that flowering plant was one of the most fantastic creatures ever conjured up. Cloud, with his iridescent horn gleaming in the early twilight, was obliviously left behind by the rest of the Blessing. He sat, lost in a reverie, whilst gazing across the sea of vegetation swaying in the breeze. It wasn't until an exotically coloured moth fluttered by did Cloud tear his sea-green eyes away from the sunset and notice he was alone.
A wash of panic and fear rushed through him as he sprang to his diamond hooves, his head swiveling that way and this, his stone coloured mane whipping 'bout his young face. He began to circle the tree, searching for a shimmer of horn or listening for a bleating foal anywhere.
Cloud trotted to the edge of the meadow, where it coalesced into a dark wood. Quite suddenly, thunder gurgled and boomed from within the gathering clouds above. He thought he saw a sparkle in the woods off to his right and he broke into a gallop t'words it. Muscles rippled 'neath a sleek, ash gray coat, blotched with black and earth-brown which swirled in marbled patterns.
As the sky darkened, multi-coloured flashes of heat lightning illuminated the bulging bellies of each cloud. The poor unicorn darted into the forest, lost and scared and finding no one, Cloud huddled 'twix the earth and a large boulder, resting inside the small cave that had once been occupied by a fawn and its mother. The rain came ruff and it came quickly. It didn't start as a light sprinkle, but rather it came down like a shimmering sheet of mylar. The fat drops weighed down the leaves of the plants surrounding the unicorn, branches and stems moaning under the weight. Cloud tucked his head down to his chest, whimpering a soft neigh.
When Cloud awoke the rain had dropped to a light drizzle. Shards of golden light broke through the above foliage, catching random raindrops and splashing all colours of the spectrum across the forest walls and floor. As Cloud stood and stretched, he noticed a queer pattern in the reflecting colours. Canting his head to one side, the ocean glittering in his eyes, he saw the two parallel lines created by the dew, forming a path that led deeper into the woods. Curiously he ventured 'tween the two streams of colour and straight down the path. Gradually the trees grew sparse and pulled back to open into a small clearing. Directly in front of him was a grand waterfall that gathered into a pond let by streams branching all ways. Cloud stood dumbfounded at the beautiful sight, his ears pivoting forward as they caught the bubbly whispers and giggles of the water nymphs that mingled with the gentle rush of water.
Then Cloud's head jerked upwards and his ears stood erect. What was that sound he heard? He advanced further into the clearing, catching a familiar sound. Was it...? Yes, it was! Cloud's heart lit up as he heard the gentle braying of his Blessing, and it was coming nearer and nearer still. But where were they? He whinnied out a cry that started as confusion and tumbled into an exclamation of pure joy as he found where they had been hiding.
Several unicorns burst out from behind the waterfall, the water pulling back like a curtain to reveal the cave they had claimed for the night. Galloping across the surface of the water, Cloud's mother reached him first and lovingly nuzzled his neck with her beige-splashed muzzle. Soon, the whole Blessing gathered 'round the teenage colt, greeting him and rejoicing with one another in a series of horns clashing and numerous brays, bleats, and neighs. Cloud had found his family, with the enchanting help of Mother Nature. And he knew in his heart the one reason why a group of unicorns had always been called a Blessing.
It was good to be back.

Ladies & Gentlemen; Most Cordial Felicitations:

2013 was kind enough to bring this to my attention, and certainly should be included in this Opus.

Messenger Chattanova has Posted this Article:Single-horned 'Unicorn' deer found in Italy

Quote:

http://img501.imageshack.us/img501/9830/captb374481c5e3543cfa80cc6.jpg

ROME - A deer with a single horn in the center of its head — much like the fabled, mythical unicorn — has been spotted in a nature preserve in Italy, park officials said Wednesday.

"This is fantasy becoming reality," Gilberto Tozzi, director of the Center of Natural Sciences in Prato, told The Associated Press. "The unicorn has always been a mythological animal."

The 1-year-old Roe Deer — nicknamed "Unicorn" — was born in captivity in the research center's park in the Tuscan town of Prato, near Florence, Tozzi said.

He is believed to have been born with a genetic flaw; his twin has two horns.

Calling it the first time he has seen such a case, Tozzi said such anomalies among deer may have inspired the myth of the unicorn.

The unicorn, a horse-like creature with magical healing powers, has appeared in legends and stories throughout history, from ancient and medieval texts to the adventures of Harry Potter.

"This shows that even in past times, there could have been animals with this anomaly," he said by telephone. "It's not like they dreamed it up."

Single-horned deer are rare but not unheard of — but even more unusual is the central positioning of the horn, experts said.

"Generally, the horn is on one side (of the head) rather than being at the center. This looks like a complex case," said Fulvio Fraticelli, scientific director of Rome's zoo. He said the position of the horn could also be the result of a trauma early in the animal's life.

Other mammals are believed to contribute to the myth of the unicorn, including the narwhal, a whale with a long, spiraling tusk.

i was going for early morning bike ride this past week,

and all along the trail, you would see lots of ducks, gophers, beavers, sunbathing

and then as im riding , turning round a bend, i hear a shuffle in the foliage, and BOOM!, a DOE jumps out literally 3 feet in front of me! crosses the path and gallops into the river (which was shallow there) and just stands there and stares at me,

if i had been driving, it would been her last jump

but it was really nice to see a beautiful creature so up close in the wild :)

The Unicorn understood the truth about Yahweh and his dark magic and his curse upon his enslaved humanity...

The book of the prophet Isaiah tells us as much:

Isaiah 34:5-8 (King James Version)

5For my sword shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment.

6The sword of the LORD is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, and with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: for the LORD hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Idumea.

7And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness.

8For it is the day of the LORD's vengeance, and the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion.

Compare that with this:

Idumea represents the Zionists (NWO),

This doesn't make sense.
Why would Yahweh destroy his own people?

Idumea (Idumaea) is the Greek word for “Edom” that is used in the Septuagint. The name “Edom” comes from the Semitic root for “red” or “ruddy” and was probably created in reference to the red sandstone in the region. Almost nothing is known about ancient Edom. No inscriptions have been found and thus far only a few seals have been identified. This makes the Bible the only source of information on Edom and it’s not necessarily reliable.

I think this is wrong too.

No, no, no !!!!!

Thats the big lie that they have fooled the whole world with. The Zionists are Edomites, the real Jews who oppose Zionism are descendants of Judah, one of Jacob's (Israel's) sons. The Edomites converted to Judaism in the 1st Century BC and at the time of Christ had taken over, Remeber Herod was an Edomite and not a true Jew. They still run the show today, most of the real Jews and the rest us are blissfully unaware, the real Jews are just being used as scapegoats by them and suffer persecution because of the Zionists.

Once you grasp this it all makes sense.

With funds which he is said to have obtained from David's sepulcher he hired foreign troops, dismantled Adora and Marissa, the strong places of Edom, and forced the Edomites to accept the Jewish religion and submit to circumcision. This is the first instance of forcible conversion in Jewish history. In this Hyrcanus allowed his zeal for the Jewish cause to lead him to take a step which later wrought harm; for to the Edomites belonged the family of the Herodians

"Forced conversion" sounds an auful lot like Zionist M.O. to me!

Besides, Jacob was a liar and a thief.

He might not have been the smartest cookie in town but Esau was the true heir.

Wow, that truly is phenomenal; such attention to detail.

I love your vivid use of colour, and the shading is excellent. The fabric of the dress, with the translucency that shows the contours of the leg, very good indeed. I think it is brilliant how you have replicated the shine on the apples. I'm no expert, but to me, this picture is incredible. You have a most wonderful imagination, and the wondrous ability to transfer it to paper!

Truly brilliant- I love it. :) 11/10 ;)

wow, thanks winston! I used coloured pencils called inktense. They are like normal pencils but you can go over your work with a wet paint brush and they turn into ink. (it saves space while traveling around, rather than taking a box of paints with you) the shine on the apples is just the white paper underneath, you just leave a space basically.

thank you for you comments. :)

well i think maybe pegasus was either an alien creature; or a rather inspired bit of alien genetic tinkering with horses and birds. (they had some really BAD results (medusa springs to mind. and sphinxes..) ... but this one was quite cool if thats what it is). cud explain the unicorn too. unless its an alien creature as well or extinct one.

have you seen the photos of cats with wings? one in china recently. was one years ago in the uk, and one in a zoo for a while. i think, either cats came from another planet and originally had wings (hence worshipped in egypt) or the aliens did some tinkering and gave them wings (hence a 'divine' animal and worshipped in egypt). altho bast didnt have wings. i mean, clearly cats are divine, but y'know.

it always cracks me up when i see the winged cats. you can imagine how fun it wud be if you were a cat with wings and cud actually fly after birds...!!!

I just did my very first painting of a Unicorn

http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/1754/unicornpaintingslanted.jpg

---------

Here's my blurb about it

This is my first Unicorn painting. I saw a neat book called "The Unicorn" by Nancy Hathaway which had all sorts of ancient paintings and images as well as mythology and stories from various places in the world (from the usual Unicorn of European to the Chinese K'i-lin).

Anyway, within my painting I have the Unicorn at the top with the horn pointing in a line through the Moon, to Mercury and then to Venus (those two bright stars at top are really the planets Mercury and Venus.

The ancient Earth-centred model of the cosmos is usually seen in modern times as merely a false physical model people had at one time to describe the physical cosmos. The interesting thing about that model is that it was not merely a physical model but the arrangement of the 5 known planets at that time (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn) and 2 luminaries (Moon and Sun) were seen to be ordered circling the central Earth in a way that is very similar to an arrangement of the chakras within Indian yogic thought.

The ancient Greeks did have similar ideas to energy centres going up the body which corresponded to "spiritual" development (their staff of Hermes or Caduceus is a symbol for that whole concept)

The arrangement of the 5 planets and 2 luminaries was like this (with Earth at the bottom - these are given as the Roman names which are the names we use):

'Fixed' stars (The 'Heavens')

Saturn

Jupiter

Mars

Sun

Venus

Mercury

Moon

Earth

This geocentric arrangement was like a symbolic ladder of spiritual development designed to correspond to the knowledge of the energy centres experienced within the human body.

And so in my painting I wanted to show these first three levels being pointed to by the Unicorn's horn ... Moon, Mercury, Venus.

The Moon here is a half. This is a balance between the illuminated side and the dark half.

Mercury here is shown with three spikes of light with two pointing down. These two point down to the right and left to represent the two directions downwards towards "Earthly" spiritual understanding where aspects of 'duality' tend to govern things. Everyone is clinging to a particular side of an argument, believing one thing is better than another, thinking that one aspect must prevail over another. The third spike of light points upward which is the direction where the next level of Venus would be found (and this one spike implies that a unification of the seemingly opposing aspects of duality can be merged for a complete view)

Venus here is shown with 4 spikes of light at the four cardinal directions. This is similar to how a Mandala in Buddhist and Hindu imagery is often a circlular form with four directions made prominent (with these 4 directions being a symbol of stability).

The painting shows a woman climbing the ladder from the lower ground towards where the Unicorn stands. This could be seen as a symbol for a spiritual acsension towards higher chakras.

The inclusion of the two dogs beside the ladder and the scorpion in the water are references to the Tarot card called "The Moon". In that card, a crustacean with it's protective shell and defensive claws crawls out of the security of the water onto land where two dogs guargd either side of the path towards the Moon. I always see these dogs as a danger on ether side of the path towards the goal. I made this crustacean into a scorpion

This is related to another set of symbols I feel may also represent an ascension through spiritual levels as represented within certain constellations in the sky (constellations being invented by ancient humans which often have a lot of symbolic meanins attached to them). None of this is shown in this painting however, but I still added the scorpion as the crustacean here because of Scorpius in the actual sky.

The line from Scorpius, through Ophiuchus (The serpent handler), through Hercules above him, and through Draco the dragon (the constellation Hercules is said to have his foot on the head of that dragon) appears to me to be a symbolic representation of something very similar to the chakras. The fact that this line of constellations ends up pointing to the northern ecliptic pole may be a symbol of the enlightenment at the top chakra. Of course I am just speculating here but it is something I am trying to look into (but the whole thing gets pretty vague as some of these ancient details have been obscured by time and alterations by people)

-----------

The Mountain in the background also contains some meaning. Theoretically, the peak comes to a point with perfect zero width. This would be a symbol of pure enlightenment with no attachment to duality.

As one gets nearer to the base of the mountain, it fades away into the background and disappears. This is a symbol pointing to the very real occurance within our "definition" (our word we stick onto a seemingly "real" separate object within Reality) of a mountain. We will agree when we see a mountain that it is "really" a mountain (it seems obvious to us and silly to question this) but we never think enough about this at all. In actuality, our definition of that as a "real" separate object dissolves as we look closer to the base of the mountaind where the valley or background terrain are located . We .can no longer decide where the mountain is and where the valley or just background terrain is.. it all becomes vague and so any decision is purely arbitrary (and so, the whole labelling of some zone of terrain as a mountain is not really a real separate "object" but is a product of our own thinking and language). And so, the mountain is a good example of seeing how our definitions of how we break up Reality into "objects" is a decision made by us ... and not because those objects are really the objects we decide they are.

If you think enough about this, you can see how so many (and I'm pretty sure all) of the so-called objects we believe are *really* separate objects are actually all one immense whole. The illusion of separate objects is created in our thoughts.

Of course, this isn't a very practical way to get along in usual human society, so many people aren't aware of this (and probably think it's silliness or craziness) and other people who are aware of it continue to label bits of Reality as separate for conveniance sake ;-)

---------------

And so the sharp pointed horn extending from the forehead of the Unicorn may also be a symbol of a projection from the upper spiritual centre ... coming to a theoretical perfect point with zero width.

Here's the book I had got which I think is pretty cool and inspired me to do a Unicorn painting.
