Credit Card Envelope

As I 'pay' my credit card bills on line, I very rarely look at the envelope that comes with the statement. Today, however, I decided to read what it says underneath the flap;

please ensure the cheque is made payable to the principal credit card holder with the credit card number included in the payee line.

As I comprehend this, I can write my strawman's name and number on my cheque and return it to them. It's a little like AFV. Obviously, I must be completely misunderstanding these instructions.

What does anybody else think?

You're quite right, Worm. Of course, it is me, the living soul who is the principal credit card holder. Does this mean they are inviting us to AFV the slip and if we wish make it double what's 'outstanding' and thereby put credit into our credit card?
