Indeed it is ;)

Researchers at the County Clare Heritage Centre in the south west of Ireland have unearthed documentation to show one of Ali's great grandfathers came from the county town of Ennis.

It seems Abe Grady, born around 160 years ago in County Clare, emigrated to the United States in the 1860s.

He settled in Kentucky and later married an African-American woman.
Their son also married an African-American and one of the daughters of that union was Ali's mother, named Odessa Lee Grady. She married Cassius Clay, senior, and they settled in Louisville, where their son, later to become known as the Louisville Lip, was initially given his father's name on his birth in 1942.

He later changed his name to Muhammad Ali when he converted to the Nation of Islam after winning the world title in 1964.

Genealogist Antoinette O'Brien said: "Through research being carried out for the Irish language TV station TG4 on Ali, we established Ali's great-great grandfather, John Grady, the father of Abe, rented a house and a small garden in Ennis with a rateable value of fifteen shillings (75p) in 1855.

"There is no doubt that Abe Grady was Ali's great grandfather. I am not sure whether Ali knows about this - we have not yet managed to contact him."

The development has delighted the small town of Ennis. Local council chairman Michael Corley said: "We would like to honour Ali as one of the heroes of the 20th century and invite him here."

Do you really believe this?

Have you ever actually been to England, or northern Europe?

I would really love to have a good look at those pictures with alleged Anglo-Saxon black Jews; they all seemed white to me, but many were not clear on the video.

The one that was clear, was the one with 'Arabs' playing chess.

I think al this insistence on homogeneity is itself racist. I'm white and if your black I say that's alright with me! Why can't we just accept that we are different but equal?

Exactly, we all belong to the human race and we all have the same roots... well, except those blood sucking reptiles that enslave us; they are the real enemy.

I scanned this from page 139 of my edition of the Anglo Sacon Chronicles - Trans and collated by Anne Savage 1997 Bramley Books.

This is a 10th/11th Century event illustrated in the 15th Century.

Not much connection between the illustrator and illustratee, so we can safely rule out any eyewitness accuracy here.

Also the armour is blatantly 15th Century show armour. This is not your work armour, this is your bling armour.

We all get that isn't a 'picture' of some 10thC Danes don't we? Good.

It is however a slightly odd collection of fellows. The chap in the middle is wearing a distinctly eastern style turban, as is the guy on the left of the group (who is also weilding an impressive looking curved eastern style sword).

A problem with these type of illustrations is the degree of poetic license. Those suits of armour will no doubt be based on various fanciful pieces, especially 14th/15thC Italian (poss German).

The windmill on the horizon evokes the low countries.

So really this could have been created anywhere in western or southern Europe. The 15th C had seen the printing press start to fuel the 'Renaisance'; it would thus have been possible by the drawing of this picture for an artist in England or Holland to have a printed book of Italian Armour, either specification catalogues, or fanciful illustrations. He would also, if he had travelle dhimslef, have seen plenty of 'moorish' types, possibly from illustrated material. (Europe was not as closed a society as we are led to believe).

Unfortunately for editions such as this AGS edition, while it makes a fantastic book, especially for kids, it is a little light on the academic appendices. There is no information on the illustration other thatn a credit to the British Library. Without knowing some background to this picture, and it's context, you cannot gauge it's value as evidence.

As for the other pictures that were pointed out, well you can see from the video that they clearly were not 'black men'.
