Get:
1) bag of rice
2) seven cups (not extra large cups or bowls, just regular size)
3) 3 Onions and cut them into halves
Try living for a week on one cup of rice and half an onion,
Of course on the last day on this diet you won't have half an onion, and this will teach you to be greatful for something even as meagre as half an onion, and moreso for all the other amazing food you get to eat.
