barring the rubbish you can read by the comic strip in your daily rag, do star signs have any impact on your personality. any ideas?

Here's a blurb I wrote up a while back on some ideas on this subject
--------------
--------------
As someone who was very much into astronmy (and backyard telescopic observation of various astronomical items as nebulae, star clusters, galaxies, comets, planets, sunspots... etc), there was a time when even the mention of the word 'astrology' would confront me as something totally absurd. Still at present I see the astrological bumbo-jumbo within newspaper horoscapes as pretty barren of any possible credibility.
However, I do know that at some levels , the particular constellations visible at times like sunset and sunrise and midnight are linked together with the seasons just because the Earth is going around the Sun and so sometimes the Sun just appears to be "in certain constellations" (well theoretically , the stars that make up the made-up shapes we call constellations are far behind the Sun at various unrelated distances). To ancient peoples who discovered agriculture and who had seasons which had bad growing times, using this obvious observatrion would allow them to accurately predict growing seasons by simply observing the stars. To them, they might have actually attributed stars with powers over weather and seasons.
What I have been wondering is whether certain people who are born within differing envoronmental weather conditions of the year might possibly have some different character traits. I can envision these possibe effects;
1... The possible influences on the diet of pregnant women during abundant times of the year or times of the year where people were conserving saved food stores as possibly affecting the unborn child. Different food types gathered at different times of the year might have a chemical effect on the unborn child too.
2... The amount of sunlight the woman gets (vitamin D) varying from month to month
3... The mental state of mind of the woman caused by the hardship of winter and cold affecting the unborn child
4... the amount of work in harvesting, preparing foods might vary during the year so exercise amounts and types might vary which could affect chemicals to the unborn baby.
So if it was possible that the time of year might affect the access to certain foods and also the mental state of the woman (which could affect chemicals that got transmitted to the unborn child), this would corrolate directly to what constellations the Sun was in at that time (just by coincidental geometrically alignment) and therefore if certain character traits were observed in children born at different times of year, the people would have attributed these effects to the constellations.
As far as the planets' (they didn't know what they were and the word 'planet' comes from the Greek ['wandering']... they thought they were wandering stars because their positions altered in relation to the "fixed stars") positions is concerned, I have read that the gravitational force of something such as Mars would be less than the people delivering the baby so unless there could be some other effect, I can't see any effect the planets might have on a person's characteristics.
It's an interesting idea but I haven't read of any studies showing any corrolation between character traits and times of birth. Of course, studies in current times might not show this today as people do not live based on the cycles of the growing seasons in modern societies where we get various foods shipped from all over the world. So if modern living messes up the effects on newborn babies as based on the cyclic yearly alignments of constellations, then no astrological prediction could be made based on any alleged patterns observed in ancient times).
If my ideas has some truth, various people in various climates and living styles would have various traits associated with being born at different times of their seasonal changes. They possibly could even have had cultural constellations they invented based on these characteristics specifically within their culture.
A key thing connected to my idea about seasons, diet and other attrributes and the resulting character of the born human is that these traits would be different due to different climates and living styles so the western horoscope wouyld not have been applicable to predicting character traits for people not within the climate and seasons where a particular set of horoscopic rules evolved.
Anyway, just an idea... I'm quite skeptical that astrologers are predicting anything of substance. There is also the question of whether many astrologers are out of synch because they may not be dealing with the precession of the equinoxes over 25000 year cycle. So their predictions on paper may not match up with how things really are in the sky right now anyway.

I 100% believe so. Like yourself dont believe the bull- general predictions in newspapers. But since reading into it and constantly looking into it over the period of 3 years, seeing these traits in people, looking at thier natal charts and clearly seeing how they relate to thier personalities, its undoubtable for me. And has become an integral part of the way I analyse people.

Hi Relax,
Ive a book upstairs called 'supernature' by Lyall Watson,
Supernature : A Natural History of the Supernatural: Amazon.co.uk: Lyall Watson: 9780340188330: Books@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31dL05Z-XxL.@@AMEPARAM@@31dL05Z-XxL
in it he explains that the electromagnetic fields of the planets/constellations have an effect on our personality. I read it a long, long time ago so thats all I can give you, I do plan to read it again soon but I have a big backlog of books to get through. It makes sense to me since its all about energy.

Abso-fucking-lutely.
90% of people I know fit in with the characteristics of their star sign at least to a large degree, myself included.

I agree I'm about a 99% match with mine. The problem is that most signs have two different personality traits and most people would fit in one or the other category. I suppose if you're really into reading charts you could figure out by time of birth just how accurate the sign characteristics are for individuals. I still think they are as good a guide as anything out there.

My personality is not defined by any planetary positioning and nor should it be. I am not like the 'star signs' suggest.
I consider that a good thing since I heard astrology is something to do with witchcraft.

Really, you're chart might be dominated by another sign apart from your sun/star sign. Try getting a natal chart from here and having a read http://astro.cafeastrology.com/cgi-bin/astro/natal

all I know is that the star sign of your birth, effects what characteristics and mentality you have.
Horoscopes on the other hand are usually so vague and generic they only really apply to 1 in 100 people and even then is coincidental for that particular reading.

I am not sure...i think that there may be three different levels of any particular star sign. One of them being transcendance of the sign..
for example My Sun sign is Scorpio and My Ascendant is also Scorpio...
(and i have Scorpio in two other houses which i can't recall)
As a young child i did not fit the scorpio profile being very happy and carefree..
Later as an older child, teen and adult i fit the profile, then in my 30s my personality shifted radically to the point where all i have left of the scorpio typology is intensity.
I was wondering if anybody has had that experience with their particular sign, or if it is just me?
Maybe the Star signs are the predispositions you are born with and overcome.
I know the northern node of the moon is what you are supposed to turn into or develop in the present lifetime.
