What are they expecting?

I have been Spitsbergen a few times. It's warmer than it used to be..

I think seed banks are a great idea. Although it's probably prudent to create your own, as I have, rather than rely on them to dish seeds out after an asteroid strike (http://cfa-www.harvard.edu/iau/lists/Dangerous.html), or some other dread global event.
I keep mine in airtight containers under the soil well below the frost layer. I have a range of different varieties of; rootcrops, beans, fruits et cetera, but have yet to find a way to store potatoes long term.
I also put some native tree species down too, especially pioneer species like Birch, Larch & Hazel, lots of Hazel :)

Dear Them,
Thank you for your message. Do you mean that you resided there or that you traveled there - in such an "icy" place? I do think that it is great to preserve seeds. But I wonder if some group in particular is planning some kind of event for whom the large seed banks might ultimately profit - not necessarily for everyone?!
The nice thing about you saving seeds personally, is that you can keep non genetically modified seeds. Wish we could to that!
All the best.

I went there to catch Geese as part of an ongoing ornithological study. I went twice in the 80's & 5 times in the 90's.

You can just imagine it can't you.. Asteroid, environmental catastrophy (e.g like Krakatoa) whomever has the means to start growing & providing for those still alive would be holding some pretty nice cards.

You can save your own.. all you need is an airtight container, seeds, a spade, a patch of earth and the inclination.
Get digging
