In 1991 after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Cuba experienced an 'energy famine.' Transportation and agriculture virtually came to a ... all » stop due to lack of diesel fuel and fertilizer shortages. This film explores what changes were put in place. The makers of the film The End Of Suburbia went to Cuba to explore it as a test case for what the conditions after peak oil would look like. This is that story

Yet, I have seen people with as little as 1/500th blood quantum who inspire the spirits of their ancestors because they make being Cherokee a proud part of a their everyday life."

This quote is taken off the Memorial Wall dedicated to the Women and Men who lost their lives to the Salem Witch hunt mania of the 17th century. I know it is not a Native American oriented quote, but in the air of potential "witch hunts" going on today, spurred on by some christian fundamentalists trying to ban non-christian worshipping on military bases and elsewhere, I thought it was appropriate. If they get their way, not only will Pagans and Wiccans suffer, but Native Americans following their own paths, and Muslims, and Jews, etc., until no one is left...

"We transform the communities in which we live."

Yes we do, simply by thinking about changing them.

We think about changing them but ultimately they change themselves. We ask for something, and we are not to bother ourselves with what has to happen for us to get it. Our job is to ask and know that we shall receive. Meantime the Universe puts things into motion in order for us to get the result we want. The Universe puts things into motion, it creates the circumstances that cause the members of the community to do things differently.

Just thinking about changing it IS enough. The only reason we have so much trouble doing it is because we are confused. We are not yet focussed enough on what we want to change the most. We need to be more selective, more positive and much, much more focussed. And to be all these things we need to know just what is going on in our lives, in our communities, and in our world.

Your thoughts on this? ...

Thank you John, you let the wisdom come through.

Sometimes I've had the intuition that we as seperate minds (because we identify with mind and thoughts) are not fit to find the proper solution to this world problem, this Big problem, one persons solution if anyone could Think of one is different to another persons solution. This is a project for Truth, a project for consciousness, not illusion and misidentification. The mind cannot handle it, we need to transcend mind and like you say know ourselfes. The misidentified with mind seperate human will not enjoy this project, consciousness will, in it's own way.

Understand the anatomy of the ego, it only came into being a few thousand years ago, don't be it's slave. Nothing you do and Nothing you say does not have a ripple in the matrix - it travels through infinite time and space long after you died, always be aware of the ripples you are sending into infinity!!!:)

Shambhala: the Sacred Path of the Warrior
I just read Shambhala: the Sacred Path of the Warrior, written by Chogyam Trungpa, one of the "importers" of Tibetan Buddhism to the West. I heartily recommend this book to whoever is on the spiritual journey! In a way, it is a more elaborated version of this little book I love: Warrior of the light: a Manual, by Paulo Coelho. Same basic idea that life must be lived like a warrior, in utter fearlessness.

It does not knock you on the head like more modern spiritual books discussed on this blog such as Power of Now, or Conversations with God, but, not unlike these two, it is a successful attempt at, basically, extracting the wisdom and teachings from the religious traditions that convey them (in this case, Buddhism) in order to reach more people (in this case, the modern Westerner). Quite a fearless endeavor indeed! This book is now 20 years old and may have be one of the first of the kind. Also, it outlines key practices and, as far as I can tell, the Shambhala Training centers that Chogyam Trungpa set up around the world are alive and thriving! A few quotes:

"The key to warriorship is not being afraid of who you are."

"To begin with, we should make an effort to examine our own experience, in order to see what it contains that is of value in helping ourselves and others to uplift their existence."

"In working with ourselves, cleaning up begins by telling the truth."

"When we feel healthy and wholesome ourselves, then we cannot help projecting that healthiness to others."

"A warrior doesn't need color television and video games. The world that goes on around the warrior is what it is, and in that world the question of entertainment doesn't arise."

"Renunciation is making yourself more available, more gentle and open to others. Any hesitation about opening yourself to others is removed."

"Warriorship is a continual journey. To be a warrior is to learn to be genuine in every moment of your life."

"For the warrior, every moment is a challenge to be genuine, and each challenge is delightful. When you let go properly, you can relax and enjoy the challenge."

"Avoiding the truth defeats the purpose of speech as communication."

"If you are telling the truth, then you can speak gently, and your words will have power."

"You might think that something extraordinary will happen to you when you discover magic. Something extra-ordinary does happen. You simply find yourself in the realm of utter reality, complete and thorough reality."

"When you are fully gentle, without arrogance and without aggression, you see the brilliance of the universe. You develop a true perception of the universe. The world is very interesting wherever you go, wherever you look."

"The process of freeing yourself from arrogance and cutting off your habitual tendencies is a very drastic measure, but it is necessary in order to help others in this world."

"Some people feel that the world's problems are so pressing that social and political action should take precedence over individual development. They may feel that they should sacrifice their own needs completely in order to work for a larger cause. In its extreme form, this kind of thinking justifies individual neurosis and aggression as purely a product of a troubled society (...). If we try to solve society's problems without overcoming the confusion and aggression in our own state of mind, then our efforts will only contribute to the basic problems, instead of solving them."

"If you want to solve the world's problems, you have to put your own household, your own individual life, in order first."

"Slowing down any impulse is said to be the best way to begin [the warrior's path]."

"Those who have been fearless in their search and fearless in their proclamation belong to the lineage of master warriors, whatever their religion, philosophy, or creed. What distinguishes such leaders of humanity and guardians of human wisdom is their fearless expression of gentleness and genuineness - on behalf of all sentient beings."

"Self-importance is man's greatest enemy. What weakens him is feeling offended by the deeds and misdeeds of his fellow men. Self-importance requires that one spend most of one's life offended by something or someone."

http://www.zaadz.com/knowledge/castaneda.html

“A man goes to knowledge as he goes to war: wide-awake, with fear, with respect, and with absolute assurance. Going to knowledge or going to war in any other manner is a mistake, and whoever makes it might never live to regret it."

“A warrior takes responsibility for his acts, for the most trivial of acts. An average man acts out his thoughts, and never takes responsibility for what he does.”

“The spirit of a warrior is not geared to indulging and complaining, nor is it geared to winning or losing. The spirit of a warrior is geared only to struggle, and every struggle is a warrior’s last battle on earth. Thus the outcome matters very little to him. In his last battle on earth a warrior lets his spirit flow free and clear. And as he wages his battle, knowing that his intent is impeccable, a warrior laughs and laughs.”

Once a man worries, he clings to anything out of desperation; and once he clings he is bound to get exhausted or to exhaust whomever or whatever he is clinging to. A warrior-hunter, on the other hand, knows he will lure game into his traps over and over again, so he doesn’t worry.”

“A warrior-hunter deals intimately with his world, and yet he is inaccessible to that same world. He taps it lightly, stays for as long as he needs to, and then swiftly moves away, leaving hardly a mark.”

“The humbleness of a warrior is not the humbleness of the beggar. The warrior lowers his head to no one, but at the same time, he doesn’t permit anyone to lower his head to him. The beggar, on the other hand, falls to his knees at the drop of a hat and scrapes the floor to anyone he deems to be higher; but at the same time, he demands that someone lower than him scrape the floor for him.”

“To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other.”

Another way I could say this is misidentification is going against nature and our true nature is nature itself, the life giving source of all, consciousness. Since humanity got misidentified it's been excelating and escelating, getting worse and worse, because we're going against nature, and finally nature will just kill us off, kill humanity off if we don't find out who we truly are and start to flow with nature, or BEING nature. Yes, it is amazing to think that our true nature is Awareness itself, Oneness, Love, Eternity, Life itself and the incredible Forever Mystery that allows infinite Freedom and Possibility, and that you can only BE this truth, not believe it. It's amazing but it's the step we have to make to evolve and even survive in the end. It's very humbling and INCREDIBLY blissful and empowering at the same time.

Much Love

Why would you think anybody alive here wants to live in a place of harmony??

What would you, long haired John, do in such an environment? Smoke some more grass?? Smile cheekily knowing that you could talk with the animals and everyone is your friend?

Is lives challenge to make everyone live in harmony? The children? Why do you put a capital letter on words like Essence, Men, Women? What extra importance are you emphasisng, John?

Yet would could we all do: together?
