Here's a good illustration of the fear this so-called epidemic has engendered. I'm off sick from work today because I became hot and dizzy last night and ended up being sick. But my boss said I should see my GP: "You can't be too careful at the moment." He also told me I must not return to work until my symptoms have completely disappeared. In a way that's fair enough because I serve at a hospital and have contact with vulnerable people. But on the other hand is it really that urgent? If they offer us Tamiflu I'm not going to have any.

I've been allowed back on the forum.

I shall attend. Who else is going?

Trouble is I'm supposed to be going to a demo outside the theatre in North Finchley where an Israeli Army music group is performing to celebrate 6o years of Isreali occupation of Palestine. The Art Depo on Tally Ho corner at 7pm.
Which is the more urgent?

There was a swine flu outbreak in the U.S in 1976...It never amounted to much after it swept through a military base in fort dix, and killed one person. The vaccine on the other hand, which they managed to stick into millions of people on the premise of a pandemic caused paralysis (usually temporary) which resulted in thousands of injury claims. I won't be rushing off for my rumsfeld jab quite yet.

If this is another depopulation attempt, they really need to up their game. Flu doesn't work; it's too unpredictable.

Can't make that unfortunately - infact (looks at date + clock) I've already missed it! But I'd be interested to hear what he says about it, if you can report back afterwards. Cheers!

I didn't go. It was too awkward to get to. Why Commercial Road in Stepney?

I went to the anti- IDF demo in Finchley instead.

how did it go hagbard?

Brilliant!:) Ian was in good form as always and I think he really reached a few people in the audience. It was the Woman's Institute.

I review the event in full here: http://hpanwo.blogspot.com/2009/04/emergency-swine-flu-meeting-with-ian.html

Sorry none of you made it. However I did bump into somebody I know through YouTube.

Tyler I hope your demo went OK too.:)

I'm much better now thanks.:)

I'm going back to work tomorrow. I've got a feeling they're going to give me the once over because of this Swine Flu panic; i might even be sent to the Occupational Health Dept. That's fair enough in a way because I'll be in contact with sick hospital patients, people whom Swine Flu could esily kill. But I'm not having any Tamiflu or vaccines!

But I've not got Swine Flu!:p If I did I'm sure I'd be a lot worse. People who catch it say they couldn't even get out of bed:eek:.

Here's the 1976 Swine Flu TV advert: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASibLqwVbsk

As you can see, it plays on fears and insecurity, then offers the solution.

I was there as well.

Now, here is what really happened.

I was charged 3 pounds by Sisters of Shoreditch. Cheap. The place was packed, people sitting in all sorts of places. More people coming in - no room. They found room at the front at first, and then the isle and just standing room only. There was a seat near me at the back, occupied by a little black cat. Nobody tried to unseat that cat. hehehe

I left early, about 9.20. I have come across this info before, thanks anyway Hagbard for the heads up.

______

The backdrop held by gaffatape fell down. Hagbard to rescue. Oh dear how we larffed. At the back. loveyoulots.

I've just read your blog and writeup of the talk. Excellent stuff. I've revised my opinion of you!!!
Tried to leave a comment but I still haven't figured out how to do that. Other blogs allow anonymous comments, yours doesn't. Couldn't be bothered with all the palaver of registering etc. I'm sure that puts a lot of people off commenting.
