here's a reply i got from my district congressional rep about the yuckies:

Dear Mr. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Thank you for contacting me about airplane exhaust. I appreciate
the time you have taken to share your concerns with me on this
issue.
As you may know, in certain climactic situations, the water vapor
in exhaust from an aircraft can leave line-shaped clouds behind
called condensation trails, commonly referred to as contrails.
These contrails are a natural byproduct of air travel and are made
up of ice-crystals, causing no direct harm to plant or animal life.
There is currently no legislation before Congress that would
address this issue. However, we must do everything we can to
decrease the impact that our transportation networks have on our
health and the environment. Please know I believe that a clean and
chemical-free environment is of the utmost importance, and I will
keep your thoughts in mind as I continue to fight to protect the
well-being of our nation's communities.
Again, it's good to hear from you. The people of Marin and
Sonoma counties are the most important voices I listen to as I serve
in Congress.
