My dad died befor xmas and had abit of money in the bank also his own house.
Ive just received a letter from the DWP saying they need to know how much the estate is worth and how much he had in the bank account.Because they say they may need money repaid back to them .
If my father had more money in the bank than he was allowed {he worked most of his life} he had been on the sick a number of years befor he died. Could they take the house etc.
Is there a way to keep the house not sell it ,Ive been thinking just tell the DWP my dad had no savings but they may check up.
Any in-fo
Peace:)

Sorry to hear about your dad. Try at a citizens advice bureau if you can, and try the link below for free legal advice. If the DWP ask, just say you are seeking legal advice. Keep them informed if you can, as it will make things smoother. Im sure things will work out for you.
All the best.

That's called bad planning. However it's all a racket and advice needs specifics.

My advice, ask to have this thread deleted. Then go and speak to an independant financial advisor/probate specialist. I doubt they would force a sale. More than likely allow you a bit fo time to pay any over payment back. It all depends how big an overpayment we are talking about here.

Why delete it, he asked for advice, and I gave him a good website for free legal advice, which is paid for by legal aid.
If he needs more advice, he can seek further help as you have suggested.

The internet is not called the Wild Wild West for nothing. I myself have experienced a lot of my communications with this website and other financial ones being intercepted. Some clever people can intercept the packets of data that contain passwords etc when they are sent between your computer and websites. So any site which does not use SSL is a weak point in the average users security measures. Some people with negative intent will often make loads of posts seeking advice or offering it for those who have been left a house etc. Not everyone is as such of course.
